"Well, like victor was saying, he's on a private mailing list. They're probably not going to change, but could have a real-time private channel over on friendfeed. I do kind of get what you're saying about the WTF factor, but I would explain it as a backchannel for the backchannel."

"FriendFeed is still the best platform online for communication (IMHO). This problem you're just now re-discovering can be dealt with on friendfeed as you explain (but as one of the reasons you were blindsided: "For two, we had decentralized moderation (I can delete any comment underneath my items, and I can hide any items that come into my view)." So the feature that can fix the problem kept you from seeing the problem? Isn't that the point of the feature? This problem isn't one that can be cured with a vaccine. And you're right that with sufficient control you can engineer it out of your site, but on a public forum you can't be friendfeed. Sounds to me like you want a large private friendfeed room."

I know Leo and the TWiG gang talked about this a bit on Saturday, but this would be a great story for TWiT today. Plus there's a lot of good info in this story, it's very well written.

Another perhaps even more important factor is that when a product is completely free, consumer expectations are low and consumer patience is high. Customers seem to really like free as a price point. I suspect they will love “less than free.”

MyLifeIsAverage - if you've heard of FML, but gave it a pass you might just like MLIA - not as depressing or unbelievable either. - http://mylifeisaverage.com/story...

So I gave him my cuddly toy of Melman from Madagascar and tied it to his shoulder. An hour later I got a text saying, "Everybody loves Melman, and all the girls think I'm cute cause I watch Madagascar. Thanks!" He was at a college party. You're welcome big brother, you're welcome.
