Can you remind me again where to find those stats?
- Brian Johns
Brian, go to "Me" link (http://friendfeed.com/brianjo...) which defaults to the Feed tab. Look at the sidebar on the right, below Discussion.
- Micah
0.75 (926/1226) - still relatively new here
- mikepk
I only see my stats for the last week (17/14 = 1.21) Please tell me your 670 number is for more than just a week!
- Brian Johns
1.44 (566/391) for brianjohns (after week tally you should see a comma then 'all time' count - I can see it on your page)
- Micah
OK, sorry. I'm a total dumbass. I stopped reading after the weekly totals...
- Brian Johns
3.74, which seems way off of everybody else's. I wonder what that says. I comment a lot more than I like.
- Cyrus Lendvay
FFers use FF with their own strategy or simply default tendencies. The ratio is an interesting snapshot of behaviour. Thanks for joining in everyone, hope more keep flowing in.
- Micah
from twhirl
0.66 - I tend to 'like' things without needing to comment further, I guess, and I notice I usually like the things upon which I comment. Well, frequently.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
.39 (2457/6242) I guess I don't comment much. I do 'like' a lot of things, it would seem.
- Bren
0.62 then again i have over 11,000 comments
- Cee Bee
1.23 (5287/4229) - I am put to shame by Cee Bee's participation, good grief!
- Lindsay
So far: Average: 1.27 | Median: 0.81 ... (if you average 1 comment per like, you'd be 1.0 ... if you're 0.xx you might herd content more than discuss ... if you're whole numbers above 1 you may not 'like' much or discuss plenty or both)
- Micah
InPerpetualMotion(Gina k), I really liked this 'Like' of yours (in a series of pics, so I flickr fav'd it): http://friendfeed.com/e... and commented. Thanks!
- Micah
.68 6986/10194 Someone wrote a great article on the comment-like ratio a few months ago. Search on FriendFeed is crashing on me... I'll try to get the link.
- Mitchell Tsai
Thanks Mitchell (btw, search crashing on me too - lots)
- Micah
1316 comments/20221 likes (0.06), according to Windows Calculator, although I probably screwed up.
- Tyson Key
A recent change in FF: now the comment count shows total number of comments (previously multiple comments in one thread only counted as one) http://friendfeed.com/e... so all the numbers above are from the old methodology....
- David HC Soul
My new ratio: 0.76 all time (old methodology .52).... this week 1.39
- David HC Soul
Looks like my ratio as flipped again (comments back to dominating again). Seems to match my own awareness I've lately been commenting without Liking (commenting is my inherent recognition of value to me and the additional Like is when it merits an extra bump to help discovery by others).
- Micah
Rick, you mean that face with glasses I photoshopped tint into with an apparently disembodied arm which is actually very much attached to my eldest son? It's mostly just me :)
- Micah
Thanks, Michael. Yes, you have a rising tide of comment percentage (oh, wow, you were one of the originals from January - cool!)
- Micah
Yeah, that's a decent upward rise in comments, Nicholas.
- Micah
.6 (6,000/10,000) 3rd update - Now it's time to flip this on its head. My goal is to have (16,000/16,000) next time I post here. Regardless of what happens, I'm just looking forward to the next 10,000 comments, likes, posts, and new relationships I make here. It's all good!
- Michael Fidler
1.76 (7539/4290) My commenting habits haven't chanced much, but it felt like I clicked Like a lot less, and this ratio confirms that for me.
- Micah
.82 as of right now. edit: on January 8th it was 0.39 -- when I saw that, I decided to make more of an effort to comment. When I hit 10k "likes" I decided I wouldn't "like" anything else until I also had 10k comments.
- Bren
Jimminy, I'm copyrighting every single number. It's kind of a honeypot ;) Actually, it was curiosity mostly, but I also hope to build a sampling (small and self-selecting as it may be) for anyone who might want to analyze it.
- Micah
Wow I didn't realize I was so out of whack!! 12.23 that's got to be a record (and I don't even import my feeds with the summary as a comment)!!
- Chris Myles
Thanks JA, Chris (wow, 12+ is unusual :), Serkan and Nine!
- Micah
Micah.. I told you I take my likes seriously; ). You *might* want to ask (in a separate post) what percentage of likes were used to "bookmark" a post or save it for later VS actually "liking it". I NEVER used like for that.. but I did use a private group that if filled with my own topics (and comments)..
- Chris Myles
Likes are down relative to comments, which matches my much lower frequency of liking. I'm a more selective liker than ever.
- Micah
I don't think I could argue that any particular kind of ratio is "best", because if Lurkers like to Lurk and cultivate (via Likes) and the Chatty-ites love to chat, to pump out much many more comments than Likes, each can be happy and make for a great social experience.
- Micah
wow, what a difference time makes, when i 1st posted on this thread, 6.43%, now = 1.25%, for a 5.18% difference, :o (and this is the earliest post to date i've recovered of my activity on ff)
- chaz2b
chaz, I think there's been a big fluctuation for most people (maybe not that much). This is the oldest post on which you commented that you've recovered?
- Micah
that was my third post... It's interesting to see how the number has changed. of course, I manipulated the number to a degree, because I stopped "liking" things for a while...
- Bren
Bren, the other thing that can seriously throw off someone's stats is a feed that upon each item it imports adds a comment automatically.
- Micah
true. that can seriously inflate comment stats, of course. Then you have someone like RAPatton, who posts a gazillion comments, in part because of his playlist posts where he will list each song in a separate comment. I found, after this post in fact, that I tended to "like" things much more frequently than comment on them, that I was lurking instead of participating. I have changed the way I use ff rather considerably, and I think for the better.
- Bren
In 4 days it will be 1 year since my first recorded stat here. My comments/like were almost a 1:1 ratio then. Now comments are almost double likes for me.
- Micah
75,415 comments/1,286 likes = 58.64 - i wish the auto inserted comments didn't get counted... the true number is probably much much close ot my number of likes
- Chris Heath
1.97%. thanks again micah, this has been a great metric to measure my first year here on ff. As the year went (this being the first record of me being here that i've found): , 6.43%:1.25%:1.97%
- chaz2b
Chris, Bren, thank you. And chaz2b, thank you too - glad it's a special marker for you. :)
- Micah
63.58 (97,534/1,534) -- interesting that my last three digits are the same there, eh? (note, i already posted a month or two ago when i first saw this thread)
- Chris Heath
Last year my comments were around 7000 and likes around 2500, for a ratio of 2.80. I consciously chose to do more liking over the last year. As of today my comments number 10,782 and likes number 7,666, for a ratio of 1.41.
- Stephen Mack
Jason, Stephen - cool. Thanks for keeping updated here. :)
- Micah
Okay, Micah. <----I had to resist the urge not to post that because I know it's going to up my comment count. ;)
- Jenny R
But how many of those primordial, high interest posts are still active. Uh huh. :)
- Micah
Thanks, Morton. BTW, when you posted in February, it was exactly 0.13 also.
- Micah
Jenny, resistance is futile; embrace the rising tide of comments.
- Micah
Comments are more difficult and time consuming than Likes. I'd be happy about a high comment:likes ratio except that many are surely imported from feeds, while every Like is manual.
- Mike Chelen
it has changed to 2.2256 now as Sep, 6 2010.Labor Day. :) I added the date for future references.
- ۳۰ مرغ Loves Y'ALLLLL
Two years later and my ratio has climbed from 3.4 to 4.675. I've got a lot to say, apparently.
- Kevin Fox
Funnily, I didn't notice until after leaving that comment that when I reported my stat in 2009 I also followed it up with "I've got stuff to say." I didn't say it was *new* stuff...

"A US teenager who was thwarted in an attempt to rob an internet cafe armed with a hidden banana ate the "weapon" before he was arrested, police say. John Szwalla entered the shop with a banana concealed under his T-shirt and demanded money, saying he had a gun. The shop's owner and customers overcame the hapless thief and called for help, but they said the teenager ate his "weapon" before the police arrived. Officers joked they may charge the 17-year-old with destroying evidence. Bobby Ray Mabe, the owner of 109 Biz Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, said police officials took pictures of the banana skin instead. "If he had had a gun he would've shot me," Mr Mabe told the Winston-Salem Journal newspaper. "But he had a banana." Mr Szwalla has been charged with attempted armed robbery."

"Hyderabadi Biryani is my ultimate recipe for a flavorful rice. The bite of protein, the aroma of spices, the tang from lime, sweetness of onions and touch of herbs make this biryani a top favorite of my family and guests in any daawat. Two kinds of Biryani are commonly made in hyderabad, "Kacchi" and "Pakki". "Kacchi" literally meaning raw is prepared by layering uncooked meat. The "Kacchi" Biryani ,usually prepared by expert "Bawarchis" ,requires a thick bottom vessel for meat to cook through without burning and rice has to be precisely half cooked while promptly making layers before rice cools. I prefer making the easier "Pakki" biryani in which cooked meat is layered with rice. The following recipe is of "Pakki" Biryani."

This looks so good, I'm hungry. Your knowledge of hyderabadi biryani's is great too. Lots of other varieties of biryani out there. Don't forget to have this biryani with Mirchi ka salan (chillis melange) or bagaire baingan (aubergine stew) and raita (mixed yogurt) of course
- Aaman (Clone of FF)
Friend of mien was comparing biryani in India to pizza here. People get very passionate about it. "Hydrabad biryani sucks!" despite hearing about how great it was at work for about 1/2 hour the day before.
- anna sauce
I have only had biryani a few times, but I really liked it. Haven't tried cooking it myself, though.
- ha3rvey (Hugs 50% off!)
Aaman, that first part above is from the site, though I do know my biryanis since I started learning to cook them in '87. I always have mine with a raita and of course, the chilis because that's what I'm used to. I'm just more excited about being able to used vegetables and herbs from my garden for this.
- Anika
I love Biryani! I don't think I'll try making it though. There are so many great Indian restaurants in my part of NJ. Thanks for sharing! :-)

Anika, my first job out of school was in Hyderabad - lived there for about 1.5 years and had the most amazing food possible. If I am ever in your part of the US, I hope I can come make some Hyd biryani and Salan for you.

Looking at the kitchen shot I thought "that doesn't seem very well insulated" but then I realized that corrugated metal wall is probably just elaborate interior paneling and not the actual exterior silo structure. Seems like they built interior walls around the entire side, so the grain silos effectively provide siding and inspiration.

"It may not be a licence for a liquid lunch exactly, but consuming foods high in water could be the key to losing weight, nutritionists say. Dishes with a high water content, including pasta and rice - which absorb liquid - as well as soups and stews, appear to keep you feeling fuller for longer. But don't be fooled into thinking you can simply down a glass of water with your lunch. Studies suggest the liquid has to be a key component of the meal you are eating, scientists from the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) say. At the same time padding out these meals with vegetables - which are high in both water and fibre - will mean you can eat more while in fact consuming the same amount of calories. And you shouldn't feel peckish an hour later."

eating more pasta & rice just doesn't sound like proper advice to me. vegetable soup and stuff like that sure
- Cee Bee
pasta and rice are carbs. Eat less carbs if you're weight conscious.
- imabonehead
I concucr with Cee Bee and imabonehead; Low glycemic works well and the soups would be low glycemic, but not the pasta.
- RAPatton
The pasta on the left looks like whole wheat though. Grains and carbs aren't so bad as long as they have plenty of fiber, which also fills us up faster and keeps us full longer (and fiber in itself holds water). The fiber/whole grains also take longer to digest and turn the carbs into sugar which lowers it's glycemic number. Lower than the veggies--no but much lower than the white pasta.

"The cake's history, aside from its being baked a few months before the Titanic sank, is shrouded in mystery. Two of Girard's friends, Audrey Staber and Dick Scheimo, found it on a St. Louis Park closet shelf while doing an estate-sale assessment in 1992. The elderly resident had died with no heirs, and Girard never learned her name before Staber and Scheimo subsequently passed away. But the cake came in a box with cryptic inscriptions: "Xmas cake Baked in dec. 1911" on top, "Xmas Cake baked by my mother's brother Alex died Dec. 27. Was operated on Xmas day" on the bottom."

In the far southwest corner of Sweden, in a nature preserve a few kilometers northwest of the town of Arild, on a rocky beach reachable only via boat or a strenuous 30- to 45-minute hike, is the nation of Ladonia. You will know when you are in the nation Ladonia, because it is marked by two monumental creative works: Nimis and Arx. Created by artist Lars Vilks, Nimis (Latin for "too much") is a maze-like wooden artwork made of 70 tons of driftwood and nails and culminating in a teetering, nine-story wooden tower. Arx (Latin for "fortress") is a stone and concrete sculpture resembling a melting sand castle. Nimis, the first of the two sculptures was begun in 1980 and went unnoticed by authorities for 2 years until 1982, when they declared it would have to be destroyed.
- Cee Bee
As a means of outmaneuvering the Swedish authorities, even while Nimis was scheduled for destruction, Lars sold it to the artist Cristo. The legal document of the sale is a piece of driftwood, once a piece of the artwork itself, on display at the Swedish Museum of Sketches. Another means of avoiding government interference (or perhaps tauntingly inviting it) was for Vilks to declare the...

Unfortunately, this was not entirely clear in the online application form, and some 3000 Pakistanis, confused by the micro-nation's website, applied for immigrant status. They were granted it, as anyone who applies is given citizenship. However, as the Pakistanis began asking about Ladonia's embassy and the details of how to get there, it became clear that actually moving to Ladonia was not a possibility.

I would not get any where near that driftwood.... reminds me of that game jenga.
- Mike Nencetti
I'm actually a Ladonian as well. I didn't pay the $10 to become a Minister or Government Official, though.

Considering that these trains are typically less than top notch russian machines it wouldn´t surprise me if something unexpectedly non-aerodynamic stuck out underneath of the trains sometimes which would make the girl just disappear.
- ɯɥøq sɐɯoɥʇ
I feared that comment, zhinzher:) Although I assumed from the title, I would say the same even if it was a Norwegian train. The stupidest place to do this would be in front of magneto trains in Japan though;)
- ɯɥøq sɐɯoɥʇ
These idiots should take a look at ogrish, rotten, or something like that, and then think about it a little bit. You only have 1 life, after it's game over. Dumbs....

:O( It's totally stupid!!! They need a place to go, to do things that matters instead of this..

It's the third largest mosque in the world, carefully just smaller than Mecca and Medina, and the only one of the three I may visit as a non-Muslim. And a challenge to photograph! I've taken probably thirty pictures of the Grand Mosque from the outside, and never liked a one of them, and I haven't loved any of the official photos either. It tends to look unreal, like an architect's rendering or a scale model, unless it is framed by something else. The photo above was taken from the car through the window with lots of distortion and reflection, the one below from the parking lot, and for now these are the best I can figure to do.

An Iranian carpet placed in the main prayer hall, woven by about 1200 Iranian women, is 5000 sq m and is the largest hand-woven carpet in the world, made out of 35 tons of wool and cotton. Cost AED 30 million, delivered to Abu Dhabi in early August 2007.

The clippers always seem to get first pick, but they can never do anything with it. This time might be different, but their track record isn't encouraging.
- Michael Fidler
Maybe he should consider a career in Italy.
- Bernard Chase
maybe he's enough of a bamma to break the Clippers curse
- Richard Lawler
I think Griffin's going to need to work real hard on his game no matter where he goes to, to be more than a role player type. His athleticism isn't going to be miles above everyone else in the NBA and he's going to need a lot more variety in his offensive game ...
- Patrick Jordan
Sucks for you, Blake Griffin. Knicks get the 8-spot. Draft Steph Curry! Lebron will want to play with him... right?
- Brendan Clancy
I think you're right patrick, but I think he'll be able to make it work after a transition period.
- Richard Lawler
Richard - I think / hope so too. And Brendan - I can't wait to see Curry playing in the NBA :)
- Patrick Jordan
...yeah, I like the draft projections showing Curry going to the Knicks, my team. He's such a pure scorer, he'd fit in well with the uptempo, high-scoring style D'Antoni wants to play. I'm still not sold on LeBron leaving Cleveland, especially if he wins a championship with the Cavs, like maybe this year.
- .LAG liked that
agreed, until I hear it from LeBron, I don't believe any rumors of him leaving Cleveland. the logic that he needs to to become a bigger star is ridiculous, and everything he's done since day 1 has been around his family, friends and community in Ohio, I really don't think he'd leave that unless he was particularly unhappy with the Cavs situation.
- Richard Lawler
LAG I think if LBJ win a title this year there will be a BETTER chance of him leaving. If he gets his hometown a championship he won't feel like he owes it to them to stay. If he wins it NEXT year however, I think he will stay to defend it.
- Brendan Clancy
Richard, true. You need to hear it from the man himself before you really start to think he'll leave. But I am sure he hasn't signed an extension for a reason. The Cavs offer is essentially on the table since it will be a max contract that no other team can match. So far, he has not even considered signing it before 2010. Good sign for any other team looking to land him.
- Brendan Clancy
Blake should pay his dues in the NBDL. his career is stigmatized for a bunch of years to come. NBDL teams > Clippers
- Cee Bee
Rich, nobody is bamma enough to break the Clipper "curse". only I wouldn't call it a curse. more like "our owner sucks balls".
- chrisofspades
I dunno chris, he's a huuuuuuge bamma. I think his bamma-ness could be like a black hole and completely recenter the franchise around precisely how much of a bamma he is. He and Kaman could form a powerful dual-bamma alignment nothing else could possibly penetrate.
- Richard Lawler
.LAG - I'm a Knicks fan too - since way back in Walt Frazier days (fuck I'm old) :)
- Patrick Jordan
Rich, if Donald Sterling wakes up on draft day and says "he too bamma for me, I'm selling," then bamma will become Bamma (capital B) and will only ever, ever refer to blake griffin.
- chrisofspades
I think there's about a 33% chance of that happening exactly like that.
- Richard Lawler
Awful lot use of the word "Bamma" in this thread. LOL
- Amani
Richard...you make some good points. The Clippers are perhaps the worse franchise in sports, though. Love him or hate him, the Clippers need an owner like Mark Cuban, someone who lives and dies with the team WINNING games. Obviously, Stirling is a good businessman, or he'd not have made the money needed to buy a club in the first place, and I don't doubt that he's making money on the...

Amani - this is the kind of guy that bonks his head on the side of the backboard while dunking, and still makes the dunk. Wherever Blake Griffin shall be, the tag of bamma shall follow also. Too tur @ .lag

As long as Donald Sterling owns the Clippers and refuses to pay anyone more than league minimum, there's no hope for them. The Clippers aren't necessarily where you go for your career to die. Ron Harper still managed to win a few rings, and Lamar Odom and Elton Brand seems to be doing OK. But certainly you won't go anywhere while you're actually on the Clippers.
- Victor Ganata
Elton Brand = not doing okay. But yes there is some hope beyond the sinking clips
- SteVe C
Heh, well, Elton Brand still did manage to get the Sixers to the first round of the playoffs. Maybe not great, but I wouldn't say his career is over.
- Victor Ganata
Victor - they did that mostly without him didn't they? Didn't he spend large chunks of the season out injured?
- Patrick Jordan
The current top google suggestion for "elton brand" is "elton brand injury". Plus, Bill Simmons (for what that's worth) ranked him the league's LVP a few weeks ago.
- Andrew C (✓)
OK, that's true, he only played less than half a season, and before he busted his shoulder it wasn't anything spectacular anyway. Maybe he is doomed after all.

OUT SIX WEEKS - STRESS FRACTURE OF THE KNEECAP - Even his bammaness could not protect him.

Man, just last week Simmons wrote: "For once, it appears as if becoming a Clipper was the BEST thing that could have happened to someone. (Note: Please don't e-mail this paragraph to me in three weeks if Blake is rolling around on the floor holding his right ankle. Thank you.)" http://sports.espn.go.com/espn...

damn, that cake (or whatever you were making) is gonna be a little crunchy

it was tomato sauce and I think we're good. it happened at the end of a transfer out of the pot and into another.scared the crap out me though.
- Vicarbott
our old corning wear pot bought it. I was just transferring the tomoto sauce that had been cooking in it to another pot to make room for meatballs. I put the pot back on the stove with a little bit of the sauce still in it and I dropped the lid on to. The side of the pot broke out and sauce spilled all over the cook top.
- Vicarbott
Saw this post get bumped up and thought you had broken another pot!
