Tropicana Line's Sales Plunge 20% Post-Rebranding - Advertising Age - News
"After its package redesign, sales of the Tropicana Pure Premium line plummeted 20% between Jan. 1 and Feb. 22, costing the brand tens of millions of dollars. On Feb. 23, the company announced it would bow to consumer demand and scrap the new packaging, designed by Peter Arnell. It had been on the market less than two months." - Paul Buchheit from Bookmarklet
I wonder why they started to re-design. The old package design is very good and distinctive. - Pavel Senko
Wait... you mean when you're selling a commodity, packaging is important in brand recognition? Never saw that one coming... :-/ - Ken Sheppardson
-20% is actually not bad between Jan - Feb. I liked the old packaging myself. Rounded orange lid is neat but gets slippery. - Andrew Smith
+1 to Benjy's comment. The new design is horrible. It looks like the store brand at best. It's not distinctive at all. - Alex Power
Wow, it's just like New Coke, only without changing the taste. - Gabe
I don't like the new half-sphere lid. If I drop it, it rolls off the table. - Morton Fox
that looks cheap! sorta like a knock-off brand...lame ! - Susan Beebe

I actually liked the new design - looked less "fake" for some reason. Plus, the new design makes me think more of a mimosa. ; ) - JP Maxwell
The only thing wrong with the new design is that it was not immediately recognizable as a known brand. - Gabe
I dislike the Font on the old Logo, but the rest of it was fine. - Iain Baker
trying out a "beta" and "rolling back" in the package design world sure is a lot different than it is in the web world :) - Nathan Chase
I've wondered about this. It happened around the same time as the economy crashing, so I wonder if it was all due to the change, or because a "premium" orange juice suffers in this economy. That said, I hated the packaging, too. - Stan Scott
