It's serious business - people make bucket reservations.

Is grilled KFC on the menu this year?
- Charles Alden
Grilled KFC is like Star Wars episodes 1, 2, and 3. NONEXISTENT. ;)
- Mona Nomura
I wonder if you could get a bowl of rice with a pot pie. I combine those anyway
- Rodfather
That surprises me and doesn't surprise me.
- Spidra Webster
They jack up the prices. And people actually pay, like, 50 bucks a flippin' bucket!! Christmas cakes are also out of control expensive. They need to be reserved MONTHS in advance and avg. $100ish.
- Mona Nomura
It's a Jewish tradition to eat Chinese food for Christmas dinner. I feel like we should combine these traditions somehow....
- Darren
@ha3rvey, I'm actually not sure - never partaken in the tradition =P. I had Korean food last night, cause it was the only thing still open in NYC. I think it may be my new tradition.
- Darren
That's right! KFC has done some brilliant marketing in Japan.
- Christopher A Carr
Weather Channel guy just announced Santa over the Cape Verde Islands but NORAD says Encamp, Andorra. I believe he's where Mona says he is ;)
- Polly Potter
It's in Japan - found via @hiro :) I love NORAD so much!!

Interesting take on the growing ubiquity of Facebook. The author like Facebook Connect & thinks Facebook has become part of the internet's DNA.

Yeah, but she may not need an extra kidney. I mean, just leaving a perfectly good kidney laying around the cottage?? Nobody wants that... except maybe Colleen who will hook a 12 monitor gaming computer up to it... but still....

Sarah, much love to you. I read up on those conditions. The neurocysticercosis just sounds.... ewwww. I hope the doctors take care of it and you heal up quickly. This kinda stuff weighing on ones mind can be hard to handle sometime.Think positive and focus on healing!
- Jim Bednarz
May G-d grant that you merit a complete and speedy recovery to full health.
- David C. Cooper
I have my in-school RN wifey looking that neurocysticercosis up. Sounds nasty. I had a tumor on my head when I was 25 if that makes you feel better. I am still irritating people, even today!

Well for all we know they had a blazing row over the Google Voice and this was a convenient way out

Actually not so much surprised. I think they are doing just to keep up appearances

it was something that apple have to worry about a long time before, now it is there and it will be big, and it will grow, now what will happen with google health?!!(if I was at apple I will try to face twitter)(how mny are using iphone and will?!!
- abdellah
Apple is the most evil company in the world. Calcanis said so on Twit.
- Charbax
Apple isn't evil, Apple is just making money.
- abdellah
HTC hero is is making andriod look awsome, with the protentual of every moble maker using amdriod (not nessary they will) Apple must be craping their pants :D
- opener
@abdellah, some would say they go hand in hand! ;)
- Travis Koger
@opener, I truly hope so. Providing some serious competition to the iPhone would be great as we all know that there isn't really any out there at the moment... of course the fact that I love Google products like Apps etc so much provides my bias on that. ;)
- Travis Koger
Google makes money in good ways. Apple makes money in some of the most evil ways.
- Charbax
I would really like the US anti-trust bodies to have a long hard look at Apple. To me they have always come across as an arrogant company but had little impact on me. However now the "I know better than you what you want and you cannot use anything that I don't let you use" I becoming a real pain in the arse.
- Nick Bristow
@charbax, I just dislike dominant no more. Google is trying to be any where and every where at the same time, were is the time when they was just indexing pages?I love Google product, but sometime they are fuzzy.
- abdellah
@abdellah think they are fuzzy themslef until they have a good product to market.. best way a to run a creative company i think. allow engineers to create the reputations...
- opener
Apple currently makes most of its revenue from the iphone. A very fragile business plan if you ask me. I think Apple is getting desperate for back-up evil plans. An overpriced tablet maybe? Nah, it won't work.

"Food-borne illness, such as E. coli and salmonella, can be spread when bacteria-infected uncooked foods come in contact with cooked or ready-to-eat foods, such as fruits and raw vegetables. To help minimize cross-contamination in professional and home kitchens alike, it’s a good idea to have separate cutting boards designated for fresh produce, uncooked meats, seafood and poultry. Having a set of different colored cutting boards on hand makes it easy to keep straight which is which: you can use a red board for meat, a green board for fruits and veggies, a blue board for cooked foods, etc. We especially like the USDA-approved, stain- and warp-resistant, dishwasher-safe, long-lasting plastic boards from the cutting board company. The 6-board set with drying stand pictured here is available for $98 (cuttingboardcompany.com) and comes complete with a color-coded guide to help you remember what board to use for what foods. The cutting boards are also available individually starting at $11.35 each."
- Myrna
from Bookmarklet
Wow, and about $35 of that is just for the stand. (Sweet merciful crap, that company sells _glass_ cutting boards! I don't think you can find a worse cutting board for your knives if you tried!)
- Andrew C
Andrew, what boards do you use? I don't eat meat so I don't worry and I change cutting boards frequently.
- Myrna
Those are restaurant supply prices; like a $300 toaster.
- Robert Hafer
Hard plastic or some wooden board, usually. And Myrna, raw veggies can have e coli issues too. Just saying.
- Andrew C
practice makes perfect! but i second the frying method. nuking can work (if you don't mind using a heap of paper towels!) but it also dries it out way too much. there is an important difference between crispy and desiccated!
- Joe Silence is not Santa
I don't microwave anymore because it is such a pain to clean up. I'm trying the oven method. Frying bacon sucks -- I have spots on my forehead and forearms from the oil splatters LOL
- Mona Nomura
Mona, No, we put a baking rack on a baking sheet and put the bacon on the rack. You could bake it directly on the sheet, but I think it gets too greasy that way. You don't have to turn it or anything.
- Michelle Martinez
In a frying pan over medium low heat works great. Lower heat means less splatter. Just keep an eye on it and turn it as it cooks. Also, don't worry about having a heap of bacon in the pan. As the strips cook, they shrink enough and you can cook two or three layers of strips if you are careful. Mmmm bacon!
- Jeremy Brooks
@Mona: Use the baking meathod but line the tray with foil. That way you can let the grease cool, wrap up the foil and toss it. Makes clean up nice and easy.
- ChiliMac
Thanks for all the great advice, you guys. I wish I can 'like' my own posts.
- Mona Nomura
Better than sucking at eating it, eh?
- l0ckergn0me
How can you suck at eating bacon? Jeremy - that's waht I normally do...but it ends up a huge greasy mess. MM - do you prefer baking over microwaving?
- Mona Nomura
Yeah, I think people try to fry bacon at high temps. Frying is the best, but watch your temps and turn the bacon periodically. It takes a while...must have bacon patience.
- Christopher A Carr
Use cast iron and be sure to save the grease to add to everything else you cook.
- Michael McKean
Actually, cooking bacon makes me not want to it LOL
- Mona Nomura
Haven't done this in ages, but, love using the bacon grease to fry up the eggs. NOM.
- Yolanda
Duck grease is also good for saving. Hmmmm.. I'm hungry.
- Michael McKean
Don't buy crappy bacon full of water. Get dry cured bacon. There will be less splattering, and very little shrinkage. It will also leave you with enough fat to cook your eggs in.
- Chris Nixon
Michael: Duck grease is indeed excellent. Sear duck breasts skin side down, don't turn, remove when medium rare, and save that grease.
- Christopher A Carr
I just bake it in the oven on a foil-lined cookie sheet for 7 mins at 350 deg F, flip, and then another 5 or 6 mins. Yes, it gets greasy from sitting in the rendered fat, but if you transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate and dab the tops with paper towels it doesn't take long at all to absorb the extra grease. The rack is a good idea for sure, but with my method I just get rid of the foil for one-step clean up. :)
- Cheryl Jones
As far as using bacon grease to cook eggs in, I just drain a tablespoon or so off of the cookie sheet into a frying pan (been using cast-iron lately) after I've flipped the bacon. Works out quite well.
- Cheryl Jones
Eggs don't like being cooked in anything but bacon grease. It's a fact.
- Michael McKean
Michael is right, save the bacon grease from your arms and forehead and use in place cooking oil.
- Curtis Burns
from BuddyFeed
Anyone know how long bacon grease keeps in the fridge? I've read that it's good to save the bacon grease for using in other recipes, but since I don't actually make much bacon, it'd take a while to save up a significant amount. Suggestions on the best way to store bacon grease?
- Cheryl Jones
It lasts a long time and you can freeze it if you're paranoid. Strain it first to remove any bits of flesh. You can store it in glass or tin, I suppose. My aunt used to have a ceramic jar shaped like a pig that she saved hers in.
- Michael McKean
Micheal and rest who cook with bacon grease: What do you cook with bacon grease (aside from eggs)

Aside from its liver, duck is gross. It smells funny.

from fftogo
I've read that the combination of duck & pork fat can be called "dork fat".
- Andrew C
I suck so much at it that I refuse to anymore. I can bring home the bacon, but Tad has to fry it up in a pan.
- Fa La La La Lindsay
Proper duck, properly cooked, is perhaps the finest of meats. It doesn't smell funny at all. Just tastes like an incredibly succulent red meat. Duck hearts grilled with a little sake splashed on are also delicious.
- Christopher A Carr
You can't force it to cook. Have to stand back and let it Sizzle.
- Micah Wittman
@Christopher: Duck proscuitto is also way up there on the meat charts. The combination of the raw cured meat and the sweet, rich duck fat... oh man, I want some right now.
- Andrew C
The problem is, you have to use North American bacon and that gives you a big hill to climb right at the start ;-) My fave methods, nothing fancy: 1) Shallow fried: Small amount of oil; pan hot, but not so hot that the oil is smoking - let's call it medium hot; add bacon; don't mess with it - let it cook for a couple of minutes, flip it, and do the same again. Do not push it around the...

I nuke bacon at home. Put two paper towels on a plate, layout bacon, cover with another towel, nuke for 1 minute per rasher, peel and eat.
- Robert Hafer
Wait. A strip of bacon is called a rasher??? WHOA. WHO KNEW?!
- Mona Nomura
Here's a comparison of microwave vs pan vs broiler. http://bit.ly/palSq I prefer the pan method (I save the bacon fat). To prevent the bacon from sticking to the paper towel for the microwave method, spray the paper towel with PAM
- Just Ken
Sometimes at work I put bacon in the deep fryer.
- Robert Hafer
This is truly bad news. Yikes! Wher I live (Chapel Hill NC ) got rid of redlight cams 8 months after they were installed. I hope in Wilmington get outraged by this!

These look great, the neighbor (very good friend) has a cookbook completely on mac-n-cheese which somehow keeps finding its way into my kitchen!

Sooooo Kevin, which one are you making tonight? ;)
- Mona Nomura
Mona, you are asking the wrong Fox about cooking! ;) Sadly not tonight, but soon I think. yes my cheesy, gooey, goodness, soon we have a date!

And it's a threesome, let me tell you!

The cops came around the bowling alley after all the customers left and ended up doing a training exercise with the dog. Someone put on a sleeve. It was awesome!
- Rodfather
Oops !!! are you sure that is dog ??? :)))
- CRASH3R
That's incredible. Not one iota of hesitation.
- Rick Cogley
training exercise but that dog would do the same in real - and a few bites are better than a bullet even for the perpetrator.
