Graham, you guys really built something great. Used to work for you -- and I still talk about how great the company is. Hey, "I'm a promoter" as you say.
- Sam
wait. BIG screen you say? Then there's LOADS of FF real-time action here - http://dffrnt.com/ffmulti... edit: 3 real-time streams running side by side. I think it shows updates from 'bout 1500 people.
- vijay
Lindsay: well, they really are fanatical about support here. They get really crazy about it. I should do a video of the kinds of things they've done to make their support best.
- Robert Scoble
@Robert, I get the intention... that word just has negative contexts associated with it... like "stalker" and "obssessed". There's got to be a better way to express that enthusiasm!! In any case, I've overlooked advertising before to support good companies. :)
- Her Lindsay-ness
Hi, Graham! And, Robert, I'm so impressed with FF just from this page that I "get it" and why you like it now. Impressive!
- Robert J Taylor
You were discussing PR earlier today... Rackspace doesn't need PR now when you can garner 190 comments in real time while talking to the chariman of the company!
- Herschel
robert do you have Paul Buchheit's email address? I need to connect him with a reporter writing about FF. you can dm or send to me (me@seanpercival.com)

BC, most of us didn't understand it when we first started. Takes a bit of getting used to. Let us know if you have any questions =)

DON'T touch the ink!! Whatever you do, don't get any of that ink on you: it does NOT come out of clothing. Also, it never properly dries, so you'll get that ink all over yourself, your car, and your house.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Can't blame you. Newspapers, despite their declines, still command a LOT of influence. Fun to see where the magic happens.
- Hutch Carpenter
The facilities manager was happy to see us. As if someone still cared. Said "all we do is talk about death here." he remembers the day when they had 14 people working in his department. They now have four.

I grew up around the Modesto Bee. Those presses were noisy, and exciting to watch.

My Dad was asst editor for Star Ledger in NJ. Love his stories. Real salt of the earth type stuff.

I dare you to scream at the top of your lungs: "Print is dead!!!" ..Double dare..
- Bwana ☠
I worked there 93-95. Hope you saw the cool robots in the paper storage room. They are mesmerizing. And there's nothing like the rumble in the floor when the press is running. There's a reason why newspapers are called the Daily Miracle.
- Charlene Li
I still love print. and always will love the feel of a newsroom. nothing like it. best rush on earth.
- Erin @queenofspain
I interviewed the Publisher, who was very realistic about economy and future of news and an Emmy-award winning photographer. Good stuff, now onto Facebook.
- Robert Scoble
Bwana: they would have said "tell us something new."
- Robert Scoble
Ask if they've made the newspaper physically narrower. I've got a bet with someone.

Robert, how much of the reduction from 14 to 4 is a result of technology advances, and how much is a result of declining revenue?
- Ontario Emperor
When I was a junior at Cal, working at the Mercury News sounded like a dream job.
- Louis Gray
Robert - Sounds like fun... you do have a cool day job!
- Susan Beebe
I love the Mercury News. Got to tour their offices back when I was still a wee journalism student. They were my first choice for my internship but apparently they're EVERYONE's choice. LOL I ended up elsewhere.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Take a picture because the future of newspapers is a weekly/monthly print run and that's it! the day of daily printed papers is coming to an end.
- Jason Calacanis
National daily papers will continue, Locals will move to 'Examiner' Commuter 10-minute read model.

For nostalgia, see the film "Farewell, Etaoin Shrdlu" (1980), documenting the last night that the NY Times used hot lead typesetting.

Hey, quit calling my profession dead! Trying to make a living here! Damn punks and your web machine boxes. You aren't going to line your bird cages with web pages in the future.
- Kevin Leroux
I am working with Pepsi as part of my job with Edelman Digital. We are thrilled to be assisting with this endeavor. In the future, PR agencies will need to step from behind the scenes and openly participate in social media with clients when appropriate. How do you feel about that?
- Steve Rubel
from Bookmarklet
As a community marketing person (As well as a cola addict) it's inevitable, and fine as long as there is openess and transparency.
- Badger Gravling
Incidentally, how do we square away Pepsi wanting 2 way social conversation on Friendfeed with a big hyperlink in the intro to the Terms and Conditions for Pepsi's own site? Does this mean that this outpost on Friendfeed is Pepsi territory now they've invaded?
- Badger Gravling
Excellent move - will be very interested to see how this excercise develops.
- Jon Mulholland
Dear Pepsi, could you be more specific about your "comment moderation" policies? I would be tempted to invest my time/attention here but not sure where you place limits of the conversation. I am not talking about trolls or profanity, but rather your readiness to hand out brand definition to users. Far from being naively optimistic here, ... but surprise me if you can.
- Mindaugas Dagys
I would have agree with Steh Godin's take (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_b...) on Pepsis new logo. Namely: "So, when Pepsi and BestBuy start 'testing' logos, and proclaiming that a new logo might change their market share, I get nervous. You can't test a logo any more than you can test a first name. /.../ I guess the punchline is: take the time and...
- Margus Palu
@Mindaugas Dagys -- our comment moderation will be limited to removing profanity or personal attacks. Also, we will monitor the room for common themes and try to address them as they pop up. .
- Bart Casabona
Nice to be able to have a conversation here about the new branding effort. Just got my nice Pepsi Cooler package and am posting photos up on Flickr. Really liked the retrospective look at previous brand images. I'm curious to know what you're hoping to get out of the influencer campaign, versus traditional media. Especially since I'm a devoted Diet Coke drinker!
- Charlene Li
Got my Pepsi Cooler package as well. Maybe I will use the iPhone for photos ;-) Steve Rubel - we have a discussion at Conversation Agent about PR agencies participating, as you probably know. Curious as well about the goal behind new logo...
- Valeria Maltoni
I'm a huge fan of FriendFeed and it community, so I'm glad it was chosen as Pepsi's first step towards engaging in Social Media. It's also nice to see Pepsi employees participating and exciting to feel like I'm part of the new branding campaign. :)
- Mona Nomura
Steve, why do "PR Agencies" need to participate? The value I see is when companies designate customer service reps to actively listen on friendfeed or twitter and step in and say, "I'm sorry you are having a problem with Brand X. We'd like to rectify that by giving you a replacement/refunding your money/improving our product." When PR gets involved it feels very false to me.
- Laura Norvig
they are clearly going after Obama's market. McCain supporters should stop drinking Pepsi.
- Morgan Warstler
@Valeria I will check out your post, thanks!
- Steve Rubel
@Laura PR works best when it's the eyes/ears of a company, not just the mouth. We have more work to do as an industry but we're coming along!
- Steve Rubel
Do I get some money for "Liking" this? No? Ahh, so what is in it for me to tell my friends about commercial rooms?
- Robert Scoble
@Scoble No money, but I believe that the relative speed and openness of this room is what Naked Conversations was all about, no? Consider this for a moment - you and I are conversing openly in my client's room. That's new, for PR.
- Steve Rubel
@Charlene Li - Hopefully we get a great story to tell about how we turned a devote Diet C--- drinker into a Diet Pepsi fan. Seriously, this is not a outreach campaign meant to drive placements or impressions but to engage in what we hope to be a continuing dialogue with influencers on how we should participate in this space.
- B. Bonin Bough
I'm still wondering how applicable terms and conditions from Pepsi's own site are to a conversation/room on Friendfeed? We're not in Kansas any more!
- Badger Gravling
@Cheryl Smithem Thanks to you and your son for commenting. We believe a big piece of this space is around transparency which is why we rolled this out the way we did. This is exactly the type of feedback we were hoping for.
- Josh Karpf
@Badger Gravling This is our first step into this space and how we approach terms and conditions will evolve. Please continue to point out key issues and better examples that we can use as reference moving forward.
- Josh Karpf
@Josh Karpf No problem - not only do I work in social media, but it's for a large company (Bauer Media), so I'm aware of the need to evolve from a sound starting point, legal or otherwise - a Terms and Conditions would be fine, assuming more is needed than any applicable to Friendfeed anyway, but perhaps one written and aimed at Friendfeed users, rather than one that appears as if Pepsi have come and claimed this corner as their own?
- Badger Gravling
I think you'd gain some credibility by linking to some of the negative reviews about the new branding that you've had over the last few days.
- Ben Rowe
@Ben Rowe Thanks Ben. Totally fair point. There certainly is no shortage of feedback.
- Josh Karpf
I think transparency is always a good thing - it's brave, it's honest and it wins loyalty whereas "wizard behind the curtain" PR tactics always feel vaguely manipulative at best (speaking as a PR flak myself). I'm curious to see how this evolves. Thanks for stepping out into this and inviting us along!
- Katie Adams
@Steve - but why do *you* need to be here? if they are engaging us directly, what exactly is your role?
- Jeremy Toeman
@Jeremy As a strategist on the Pepsi account, I would be here regardless - reading, moderating, advising, etc. So rather than be clandestine about it, Pepsi thought we should be open. Now that I am here, though, what role do you think I should play?
- Steve Rubel
@Jeremy I have to say Steve was very cautious at first, for good reason, but we were very clear that all of our agency partners will be identified and participatory.
- B. Bonin Bough
@Steve honestly, without a clear understanding of what Pepsi actually wants to get out of this, I can't answer that.. all i can say is having "the PR guy" around and actively participating makes me feel like this is just a "we paid our way into social media" effort. pls note - while i know we've disagreed on things before, this has nothing to do with you personally..
- Jeremy Toeman
@Jeremy we want this kind of feedback (and I recognize it's not personal). I will let Pepsi speak for themselves on their goals. I am really here as an observer and to facilitate.
- Steve Rubel
@Jeremy I don't think it's really function specifc; PR/Marketing/Sales. It is shared space. He is our partner on this and while it's a little different from how other companies are approaching..we are thrilled to have him front and center.
- Josh Karpf
@Jeremey Our objective is to open a place where we can have dialogue around social media strategies. In addition to participating in other spaces we are dedicated to making this place have meaning to the FriendFeed community.
- B. Bonin Bough
@B. Bonin Bough “...how we turned a devote Diet C--- drinker into a Diet Pepsi fan.” As someone who lives this brand, a new logo/package design won’t do that. Never has. I’ve been drinking Pepsi for nearly four decades and for one reason only—taste. Everything from that point forward starts from there. Not that it’s always a requirement, but how many people tapped ahead of time were...

(FriendFeed character limits doesn’t really facilitate conversation that well.) Anyway, Google “Pepsi’ and ‘social media’ or ‘new logo’ and gauge the responses. (While it’s easy to be mislead by the number of mentions, really listen to what’s being said. The classic PR mantra “Well, at least people are talking about it” only flies if you’re Paris Hilton.)
- mtlb
Surprised this isn't tied into a Twitter account. The ability to see and push shorter comments to Twitter would bring more people into this room. Friendfeed conversations don't get noticed too easily from outside.
- Brian Carter
I would love to see this on Twitter! I love the new look and I would love to see one up close and personal and to share this with my readers - I am the Editor in Chief of Kitten Lounge http://kittenlounge.onsugar.com and although this is a great site to post this, I agree with others that you're really going to have to use various Social Networks to get the word out as many people don't know about this and don't use FriendFeed. This should be on Twitter without a doubt!
- Kimmie
Charlene - you're so sweet to bookmark this list. Though I'm honored to be included on such a list with this title, the list was created as a traffic-generating strategy and IMHO, power and influence are not measured by Alexa ranking. Ah well, c'est la vie. As they say, any publicity is a good thing. lol.
- Mari Smith
The most "techie" FriendFeeders: http://scobleizer.com/2008... -- got anyone else who deserves to be on this list? Post their FriendFeed URLs here and I'll consider them. Every one here has been hand picked by me and me alone.
Bora: see my brother for that list. He likes cat photos. :-)
- Robert Scoble
:( i'm so sad...ok, disappointed rather. I run techineurope & the flippin' Apps room! :)
- Zee.
Boy I've come a long from being an ex-banker if I make your list Robert. Thanks for the inclusion.
- Hutch Carpenter
I'm sure it's a lovely list for those who wish to focus on tech. With that said, I opt to not check it as I'm certain I'm not on it, and I see more tech in FF than I know what to do with already: Robert's Likes take care of that =)
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I don't make the list? Aww. I think I am at least as technical (on my blog as well as FF) as a lot of the folks on your list.
- Phil G
I talk about tech that all of you guys are afraid to touch - chiefly an understanding of MS server products and the destruction of the net through the use of DPI (limiting bandwidth or even access to specific sites/applications across the net) and the abuse of DPI (phorm and their ad peddling scum).. do I qualify?
- alphaxion
It's funny since I joined FF I've found that there's so much more to talk about than tech! You might not know it from what I post on here but I am a super tech-head geek.
- Her Lindsay-ness
How in the hell does one even become 'techie' on FriendFeed without just aggravating the echo chamber? When I first came on here, I wanted to post techy stuff. Even got myself a blog on Profy before Profy became Profy but I found myself always nine steps behind everyone else. Seemed like a dead-end rat race to me so I went with just being adorably obnoxious instead.
- Akiva Moskovitz
@akiva niching is your friend.. I seem to be the only one on here that can argue about active directory and the challenges to the core of power for MS that openLDAP and exchange-a-like apps such as zimbra pose instead of looking at a browser and declairing MS dead.
- alphaxion
@alphaxion, I doubt you're the only one that _could_ but you're one of the few that really _wants_ to get into that kind of religious war.
- Her Lindsay-ness
I am a "techie" but like others, I dont bother to post much "techie" around here because of the amount of tech. Not sure this list is even a worthwhile venture because ultimately what value will it provide?
- Scott Jarkoff
Who has the THX home theater? Which brother was a dope and bought the PS3 just to have a BluRay player? And a techie who doesn't game? Boooring!
- Alex Scoble
I don't see it as a religious war.. especially since I'm OS agnostic. I grew up with apples, acorns and amigas, I was introduced to win3.11 in the early 90's and have supported windows server products from NT to 2008. I play around with linux and keep my eyes open. If someone genuinely does something good I'll agree, but I also refuse to fall for the "it's cool to bash MS just cause" camp and will acknowledge when they have done something right.
- alphaxion
Robert, I'm so supposed to be on this list. But before me, Zee for sure.
- Aaron Krug
I'm a techie by trade but social media has really fired up my interest in soft skills instead. I'm also a new father and low on cash so you won't see me ogling gadgets like I used to. I admire your drive to categorize everyone on FF, Robert. Hopefully you'll get some help from FF soon and won't have to compile all of this outside of the system.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
You are now working for linking the names on list, I am one of them; and really thanks for your valuable time! Hope to meet you one day!
- Erhan Erdogan
I wouldn't expect to be on the list, even though I'm probably at least as techie as any of the other PR people or MediaBistro. I'm really most techie as an audio geek, which I don't post about a lot here. Does being able to compose music & do sound design in ProTools, Max and at least a few dozen other geeky apps count? I know, everyone wants to be on the list.;-)
- Cathryn Hrudicka
+1 Cathryn, there are many different kinds of tech, not just I got an iPhone tech. You should be sharing, I'd be most interested in sound tech.
- Eric @ CS Techcast
Just realized i'm on the list. Thanks Robert !!!
- Nir Ben Yona
from twhirl
Robert, out of curiosity how the heck did you put this list together?
- Zee.
Ok wait, I'm calling BS on some of this list. Are you going by who these people are or how actively they post tech related items? Dave Morin is the 5426th most active user on FF. Engadget is 5505th. They aren't really participating.
- Shawn Farner
I was the lead engineer for Yahoo! Tech. Does that count for anything?
- Glen Campbell, B.A.
feel fee to add me if your looking for some geeks :)
- (jeff)isageek
i think Robert may live to regret posting this...:)
- Zee.
And also, note to the others: "Feel Free" to add me ; )
- Erhan Erdogan
Zee: I started about a week ago. I went through all 3300+ people I'm subscribed to (I've been gathering subscribers all year long). Then I added anyone I remembered as sharing something with me that's geeky over the years. I'll write more on the list after I finish building links.
- Robert Scoble
Veronica: big oversight. You're on the list now.
- Robert Scoble
Your page mentions that these are not necessarily "techies", contrary to what your post here suggests. I think your page is right. Nevertheless, great list. I wasn't expecting to see myself there, but that doesn't mean I don't want to ;).
- Vinay | विनय
By the way, I don't care about participation that much. I use FriendFeed as an aggregator first, community tool second. So, if someone is bringing great content in here (like TechCrunch, who is my #1 most "Liked" feed) then I'm perfectly happy recommending that feed to others, even if he/she doesn't participate here.
- Robert Scoble
I scanned the list and it's not "techie", it's more of a "People Who I Recommend" list, Robert. Why not call it what it is? :)
- Mona Nomura
Mona: yeah, there's a few on there who fit that description, but generally they are people who bring me tech news and not much noise.
- Robert Scoble
Thanks for including me, Robert - it's a great honor
- Jesse Stay
Yes, those of us who actually work in enterprise tech don't qualify. ;-) Kidding. I did send you a note re: Pandora though.
- Jennifer Leggio
We've come a long way since the "Elite Bloggers Joining FriendFeed In Droves" post I did six months ago. Good job, guys!
- Louis Gray
good list for social media and tech, a little light on folks who actually “make” real things - if there’s a “web 3.0″ coming i think it will be more about electrons meeting atoms than just facebook apps.
- make
wow, i did a quick scan and already i am seeing major discrepancies in this list including those that you say having feeds that are mostly made up of tweets. but because they are a vc or whatever they are on it. Sorry Robert, Mona's got you pegged. You should really consider renaming this.
- Carlos Ayala
You don't have enough Mark's on the list :)
- Mark Krynsky
Aww, Robert, you didn't have to. I was teasing you. I've just really started harnessing FriendFeed as of late. But it's a great network.
- Jennifer Leggio
Actually I'm not there. heh. Maybe it didn't populate yet.I'm adding a lot of folks I missed.
- Jennifer Leggio
Stirring it up again, my friend? Nice. What about me? I haven't lead you astray before, have I? (Oh, that little Scoblegate thing we had together.) We are on the cusp of a Cambrian Explosion of innovation, driven by the new "open stack." Follow me, so as not to miss any of the action. :)
- John McCrea
Thanks for including me in the list Robert. Honored.
- Mike Doeff
Robert - Please add me: MSCE: plus Security & Messaging; also certified Project Manager (PMP). Currently, I am the Manager over IT Integration and IT Project Management for Nelnet Enrollment Solutions (NNI) - includes Petersons.com, CUnet.com, CollegeandUniversity.net ($10M IT budget) - techie since youth - TRS80 baby just like you! VP of IT for PMIRochester.org. Founder of Rochester Social Media Club. Also highly technical wine enthusiast!
- Susan Beebe
Missed me and Susan? That's it Robert. I'm callin' Alex now
- Charlie Anzman
Thanks for including me on your list Robert!
- Mitchell Tsai
Thanks DeWitt and Charlie! - you guys rock! Robert's list is rich with movers, shakers, influencers, networkers, early adopters, VCs, Execs, startup enterpreneurs, bloggers, software geniuses, and smart FFers!
- Susan Beebe
Thanks for the mediabistro shout out- Seamus from MB
- Seamus Condron
Boo! Where’s the regular people? The ones who ARE NOT “pros, gurus, specialists, masters, professors, etc”…… You forgot about the underdogs who don't get the recognition they deserve. Us little peeps need love too; these "big timers" always get recognized.

Don't forget Sarah Perez and David Risley

ah, i'd been traveling and wondered where a rash of new subscribers had come from - scoble effect in action, thanks robert :)
- mike "glemak" dunn
This list made me feel incredibly out of touch... of course I AM out of touch, but I don't like to feel that way. (but good list anyway thanks...)
- Trey Ratcliff
follow lots of those, but no me :( I blame scoble!
- Dobromir Hadzhiev
Thanks for putting me on the list - can't believe that I actually made it on there!
- Charlene Li
I really hate these lists... mostly because there's obviously way more than 100 people that are worth following - or we'd all have following lists of 100 or lest. Partially because the first thing we all do is look to see if we're on the list - if so, we breathe a sigh of relief, then worry about 'living up to being interesting', if not, we wonder why not and get sort of hurt and offended (I know I'm in good company, my twitterstream tells me so.)
- Lucretia Pruitt
On the same level tho - they clearly create traffic and conversation - this thread is huge, people on your list are seeing bumps in their follows, and the comments are still coming in on your blog. So they obviously generate something. Unfortunately, some of us walk away feeling like we must be "failing" somehow - and that's such a crappy feeling. I know that I don't use FF sufficiently to make any list like this - but have to wonder about other folks who didn't make the cut. :\
- Lucretia Pruitt
Thanks for the inclusion. My gripe is that there are still only FriendFeed "name claimers" on this list. I know that a few people on it don't use FF at all. And you don't know what blogs I write for, Robert? ;)
- Tamar Weinberg
tamar: ff started as a presence aggregator and it still does a fantastic job of that even for the "name claimers" you dislike - i don't think its a requirement for everyone to be liking and commenting up a storm on ff to bring value to a feed especially if they bring a lot of signal via their included services alone :)
- mike "glemak" dunn
Robert- Crazy girl who ran after you at BWE08....gave you my trading card for http://www.MyTechOpinion.com. I use my super powers for the positive advancement of real estate technology and social media! -Nicole Nicolay "NikNik" @nik_nik

@Robert: Nice list—just want to mention that Sanjeev is also a FriendFeed founder as well as a developer.
- Jim Norris
This most have cost some time to do, its hard enough to click on each one and subscribe to them. And it's exactly the kind of action that could lead to more people flocking to FriendFeed. Nice work, but I sometimes wonder whether these services pay you (don't worry, I already know the answer's no).
- Vincent van Wylick
I guess getting all those member interviews doesn't count for much ;-)
- Andrew Feinberg
one thing that is interesting about this or the criteria used, is that what does "interaction on FF" mean? What if someone is creating a ton of interesting content on flickr or podcasting? I am stoked to see the people on this list on it. Many are friends, and most I respect (there is that @technosailor dude). Lists are inherently flawed, the contribution of the people included here are not.
- Micah Baldwin
I'm honored and astonished to have made this list... thanks Robert
- Brian Shields
thanks for having me in this list, even though with the recession I am not sure anybody should spend too much time worrying about that... thanks Robert anyway!

No offense or disrespect but I don't particularly care about these people; everyone already knows them - we hear their names mentioned all the dam time again....... Where's the "real" social media bloggers that deserve recognition?? The ones that no one ever talks about but SHOULD talk about!?
- ChaCha Fance
from FriendFeed MT Plugin
Marshall: Excellent post. All seven are indeed thought leaders and worthy of the recognition. I was surprised not to see @ShivSingh's name on the list. More practitioner than blogger, he consistently provides deep thinking on social media - what's working, what's not, and why. I recommend following him, (www.goingsocialnow.com). I'm also perpetually inspired by Danah Boyd (www.danah.org), who has probably forgotten more about social media than any of us will ever know.

That's my big question - what is the "official" role of the officer over Social Strategy? CCO? Chief Social Officer? Chief Social Strategist? Chief Social Evangelist? I like the "community" idea.
- Jesse Stay
The social applications of today are great for letting employees loose, for collaboration and innovation. But it's still something to get used to. A CCO shouldn't come from a knowledge management background. The CCO needs to be a conversation instigator, and significant information filter for others.
- Hutch Carpenter
"Chief Community Officer" sounds a bit over the top to me... is CCO > VP Mktg? nice to have "Community Evangelist" separate from traditional mktg, but at CXO/VP level, i think it's either Marketing or Customer Service. if you're saying that "Community" = both "Marketing + Customer Service", then maybe i understand.
- dave mcclure
Dave, I think it depends on the company. My company, for instance, is building a Social Strategy, in addition to traditional communications channels. The Social strategy plays just as big a role as the traditional communication, and is key to the company's success. I would suggest a CXO position is warranted for that case.
- Jesse Stay
from twhirl
But, in the end, titles are mostly marketing terms anyway - if you think you need a "CCO" or similar position to properly market your company and share with the world what it does I think it's okay, personally.
- Jesse Stay
from twhirl
A key Chief Community Officer responsibility would be: Build and maintain the strongest possible community network effect. Unfortunately, I talk with Global 2000 companies all the time that are still wondering what this Internet thing is when they built their existing business fine without it. Even many so-called 2.0 firms are having trouble with community. It's a very different (and better) way to run your business. Some are succeeding however (SAP, XM, iRobot, and others)
- Dion Hinchcliffe
This is part of the discussion of who "owns" community. It will be different for each company, but it's an interesting Q of whether community is integrated into all divisions/aspects of a company's operations, or if it should reside in a few departments who are responsible for driving it. A CCO elevates it, but also removes it from any single department -- which may could kill initiatives with no buy-in, or accelerate them because of C-level involvement.
- Charlene Li
I originally read this from an internal community perspective, as in getting employees to use the new tools. But I can see the need for someone tasked to manage external communities.
- Hutch Carpenter
I consider myself a catalyst & community gardener. I prepare the soil and remain responsable for the social system to grow healthy. I don´t work inside corporations. My work is mainly with people interested in the conscious evolution of social systems. This has many advantages as people are interested in creating new forms and empowering community, relationship as the center of wealth generation (where money is a small piece of this wealth). No owners just trustees.
- Fernanda Ibarra
still - probably a good way to get going is to assign the gig to a c-level person at first?
- Gerd Leonhard
As a program manager running several virtual teams to accomplish specific goals, I suppose I am a CCO. Time to change my business card :)
- jcunwired
We just discussed it and my title is now officially, "Chief Community Officer" :-)

Privacy issues are a big topic here at RB - for both clients and employees. @marksilva blogs about his kids and wife because he's justifiably proud of them - but he does so as "my son," or "my daughter," no names or personally identifiable information. Other's don't mention their kids at all. How do people here handle it? What are your boundaries?

I talk about them, and like Mark, don't mention their names. They are very "stranger aware" online. So one of them freaked out when I mentioned their names in the book acknowledgments. Now one of them is blogging occasionally -- and *I'm* the one freaking out.

I'll mention people in all of my public stuff, but I'll either refer to them by first name only (if it's not a unique name, like "Eric" or "Gary") or via relationship (IE "my sister" or "my aunt"). I'm public, but they might not be.

I don't have kids (yet) but when I blog about people I know, I tend to not use their names if they're not online people already (otherwise my blog post might end up top for a search on their name! happened once or twice). The base of the question is "what is mine, what is yours?" -- in a relationship, there is not a clear cut limit. Some things that pertain to the lives of others are part of your life too, so you should be allowed to talk about it -- but they should also have a right to privacy about it.

I started out being more private than I am now. As the twins' arrival was a public event and shared with the community here, I definitely over-communicate and share updates here, but I do less so on the blog, with occasional updates. I also tend to still protect my wife, and don't post a lot of pictures of me.

I completely understand your move - being a career mom carries strong feelings of regret and dissonance, which you always need to solve. Thats a tiring process...Enjoy your time of resonance.

Cool - didn't know about this. I challenge you to a Guitar Hero battle. Got two guitars?
- Charlene Li
Charlene, I don't have two guitars yet! I'm tempted by GH: Aerosmith, but I think I'll hold out for GH4 and the swanky new guitar later this year. :-)
