i'm all for renaming swine flu to 'bacon flu'. bacon flu sounds far less scary and slightly tasty
HAHAHA that's a knee slapper - NOT - Christopher Melo
I really hope this 'bacon' craze gets squashed by the threat of swine flu. Food that slowly kills you is not 'cool', nor has it ever been. Carl's Jr. wants us to basically have sex with their hamburgers, so that we will forget about the fact that they are selling death between two sugared buns. Truly sad. I recommend EVERYONE go and see "Food, Inc" when it hits your city. - Fleagle
That's not funny. Bacon flu killed my uncle five years ago, you insensitive pig. - Dawn
@Fleagle ... that's fine and all, but the consumption of bacon has nothing at all to do with H1N1. - Christopher A Carr
And if we combine swine and bird flu we can have "bacon and egg" flu which is even tastier - if the flu don't getcha the heart attack will - Nicholas Paul Gordon from Nambu
The Pork industry will still not be happy with "bacon flu" - Christi
HAHAHA @ Nicholas. That is the funniest thing I've read all day. - JCLeftie
Bacon flu still sounds distasteful. Maybe we should call it 'bacon bits'. A high school 5 miles from my house (San Jose) closed down for a week today because a student was confirmed to have bacon bits. - Kevin Fox
How about oinker flu? - tojfs7931
Gee, Christopher. Really? Bacon had nothing to do with it? That's fantastic. Anyway, my point is, this recent 'bacon craze' is really just another internet craze that usually dies out after a few weeks, Related or not, it's just my hope that the onset of swine flu could kill the fad, mainly because it's annoying as hell. It's a stretch to relate the two, but who cares? It's worth it if I don't have to hear about how friggin' cool bacon is anymore. I'm sure it won't, but I can always dream. - Fleagle
@Fleagle: lol, it's just "another internet craze that usually dies out after a few weeks" that's been going on for months at least, possibly years. - Chieze Okoye
Months? Maybe. Years. Not really. The 'spike' has happened quite recently, as others have caught on and decided to wax poetic about the pork product in all it's glory. Sure, people will always talk about bacon, but not quite as much as they do right now. - Fleagle
@Fleagle: I see what you're on about, but if this influenza outbreak ends up knocking down the *yummy bacon* internet meme you find so annoying, it will be evidence of mass ignorance and/or stupidity. Bacon has nothing to do with this virus. I suppose I have a hard time cheering for stupidity -- even in the service of reducing *evil bacon* consumption. - Christopher A Carr
I'll chime in once more, then I swear I'm done. Yes, you are correct in that it would give evidence of a mass ignorance or stupidity, but really, would anyone be surprised? Of course bacon has nothing to do with the virus, but you can see how this recent 'pandemic' can immediately put people in a mass panic. Most people react with little or no information whatsoever. It's the sensasionalist media mentality that rules supreme. - Fleagle
Fleagle, I can honestly say that you are literally the first person I have ever met that is this righteously angry at bacon. - Chieze Okoye
And besides, it's been proven that bacon cures hangovers, so maybe the bacon flu isn't so bad after all :) - Kevin Elliott
it's bacon fever in spanish. THat's the translation, so why not go for that - Eric
So when you get a fever, you can say that you're fried? - John E. Bredehoft
LOL Liked for Chieze's comment. o_O - Robert DeBord
Haha, ditto. What did Kevin say again? I'm too busy watching Chieze and Fleagle go at it. - Charles Bihis
Yes, actually bacon is the antichrist. - Fleagle
Fleagle is right. Bacon ate my puppy, drank all my bourbon, and shit on my pillow. - Christopher A Carr
Mona Nomura
So earlier I was in Bushwick (Brooklyn) right? Out of the blue, some woman yells at me: "Hey China girl, we speak English here." LOL
If you are going to offend, at least get the nationality right. Ugh. - Harold Cabezas
Hahahha I know! - Mona Nomura
You totally should have yelled at her in Spanish. Messed with her little head. - Joe Pierce
W_T_F! - Jim Hearts FF
What an idiot that person was. - Joey Gibson
I laughed out loud. But apparently, I shouldn't have because she got even more upset. The people I was with ushered me into the building (my destination) really fast LOL - Mona Nomura
oh, my god. i am so sheltered as a white person. this blows my mind. if i saw this in a movie, i'd probably be dubious that it would actually happen in real life. but i should know better. - edythe
Hey Mona; you did fine. Laughter at bigotry is a great weapon. Mel Brooks made a career out of it! PS Glad you had friends there. - Kate Foy
Ugh. That really sucks. Unfortunately, I work with a racist pig. I've never been called "Snowflake" before in my life until the other day. - Beau Liening
The first time it happened to me was in NY, on the 6 train. A few older ladies called me "China woman" - but they were actually thanking me for giving up my seat LOL. Everyone on the train was appalled but I knew they didn't mean ill-will. I've almost gotten beaten up in Baltimore for being in an underground hip-hop club (and being Asian), and called names all the time in Philly, Newark, and Boston LOL. - Mona Nomura
Start quoting 'They Call Me Bruce': 'With my right foot, I will kick your face. With my left, I will kick your nose. With my fingers, I will poke your eyes out. Take a good look at my face. I'm an Oriental.' - Rodfather
It actually doesn't bother me. It makes me really sad that there are people so close minded. - Mona Nomura
No no no no no no. Wrong answer. And you lost your bonus turn so you can't play again. And you don't get any lovely parting gifts. Not even the Turtle Wax. - Martha
I just love that movie. Hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch... - Rodfather
Wow! - Bindu Reddy
But I thought racism was over? (at least according to some of the eye-roll causing conversations I've had the past few days) - Rob Haas
Some said New York is becoming a Chinese colony. - Dallas Cao
That has to be the funniest thing I've ever heard, Robert! - Mona Nomura
For some reason that doesn't surprise me. Chicago isn't any better. - David Cook
Wow, what an idiot. - Charles Bihis
I guess the upside was you didn't get shot at... - matthew john ernisse
Oh, I've been shot at too LOL - Mona Nomura
OMG!! Shot at?!??! - Beau Liening
Ya - there are people that really don't like Asians LOL (I'm only half kidding but I've been shot at a few times while in a car. Don't ask... lol) - Mona Nomura
@Mona -- maybe its just the crowd your roll with LOL - ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
OMG! That's insensitively hilarious! - Lindsay
Lindsay: I know. I'm trying to brush up on my Spanish so the next time they'd be thrown off guard ;) @Chris - I'm not ghetto! hahaha! One of the suckiest times was in East Palo Alto back in the late 90s when we were leaving the local Y after a tutoring gig LOL - Mona Nomura

I actually briefly considered buying a MacBook tonight, until I saw the price of the cheapest model was $1299. - http://www.apple.com/macbook/
I actually briefly considered buying a MacBook tonight, until I saw the price of the cheapest model was $1299.
Seriously, WTH Apple? The hardware is no different/better than a Dell, which is priced about 1/3rd of Apple's lowest priced model. You're telling me I'm paying a grand more for an Apple logo and OS X? I don't think so. - Haggis (Sean Loyless) from Bookmarklet
Did you see the white plastic MacBook at 999? - Mike Nayyar
Nope, but I'm guessing the performance stats are even less than the standard 13" MacBook. And still $400 more than I want to spend on a laptop :/ - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Yeah but did you know that the logo lights up? - Adrian
@Adrian LOL.. So that's what the extra cash is for! It all makes perfect sense now. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
It's just one of those things. :) If price is your most important criteria, then yeah, apple is def. more. Also the price differential, when comparing the same HW builds isn't totally out of whack (usually more but def not 2x or 3x like you mention). When I used to have Dell laptops though, their build quality really was awful (keys falling off, creaky plastic that flexed, pieces not fitting together, it might be better now). I wouldn't call it a strict apples to apples (no pun intended) comparison. - mikepk
Actually, look at the extra cash as a down payment for all the honey dips you will scoop up at Starbucks because they WILL be mesmerized by the (light-up) logo. - Adrian
@Mikepk LOL at "Apples to Apples".. And I hear you.. I admit the design is pretty slick on them, but I'm looking for straight up hardware for the most $$, and Apple doesn't seem to offer that on their cheapest model. I specced a 2.0ghz Dual core with 3gb of ram and 160gb hard drive for < $500 that is already better HW specs than the cheapest $999 white plastic model that Apple sells. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
The logo is the priciest part - Josh Haley
Meh, I plan on covering up the Dell logo with stickers anyway, so that's probably the least important part for me. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Racing stripes are another $50, $100 if you want them in black. They add 5GHz. - xero
I can highly recommend the Dell XPS M1530 btw. - xero
@Xero I was looking at the XPS models, since they don't have the crappy integrated Intel video and have GeForce instead. I'd like to run some games on the thing as well. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll go look that up now! - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Checking the specs... for some reason apple.com wasn't loading. Which Dell model are you comparing? I'll bet that it's a lower grade CPU (less L2 cache, slower FSB etc). I think when you really compare the HW closely, you find that apple is more expensive, but not ridiculously so. - mikepk
Which is Dell's aluminum unibody laptop? - Glen Mistletoe
Was looking at the < $500 models, but now looking at Xero's suggestion of the XPS models. Either M1330 or M1530 - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I would also like to point that OS X can do way better with the same hardware. My Macbook Pro has 2 GBs of RAM and 2.2Ghz Intel C2D and I've had few performance related issues while simultaneously keeping PhotoShop, Aperture, iTunes, Safari all fired up for long periods. My work desktop has significantly better specs but it cries for more all the same. - Parth Awasthi
the new one's suck anyways - sofarsoShawn
Yeah, it's what I thought... the first dell with the 1066MHz FSB (and 1066MHz DDR3 RAM) that I can find is the XPS 13 which is base at $1099. Then again, that model comes with 2x HD space and 2x the ram... but like I said, it's not totally out of whack, just more expensive. - mikepk
I wanna a new Macbook. I love my current one - it runs just as well today as it did two years ago when I bought it. The same can't be said for the IBM I owned before. - Nation Hahn
I have a Macbook Pro and I love it. The way that OSX works is just so much better then any other OS. And the nice little touches to the laptop are fantastic as well. Oh and it also is pretty. - Mathew™ one of a kind
I don't necessarily need a speed machine, honestly. I just need something I can run Photoshop on with the ability to take with me to the office. 800mhz FSB is fine with me, my desktop runs the same - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Oh I wasn't trying to convince you to get an Apple :) I was just pointing out that comparable hardware (same CPU's FSBs Mem type) the price of Apples is not that out of whack. The apple tax exists, but it's not nearly as large as most purport. - mikepk
It just depends on what you want. I wanted something that had a good amount of power in a 15" body. And I also wanted OS X because its the best browser around. I thought about making a Hackbook, but decided against it after doing a ton of research. - Mathew™ one of a kind
Don't lie Mikepk! You're trying to convert me to the cult of Apple! I will not drink the kool-aid! Seriously, thanks for clearing up the HW spec differences though. I should have been more clear with the type of system I was looking for. It doesn't need the ability to render 3D animation, just get me on FF from my couch. :D - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
They definitely go the route of cramming "premium" specs into even their "low end" mac books. It means you can't get the absolute cheapest, just gets the job done, kind of configuration. - mikepk
Have you considered a netbook? They're pretty awesome. :) - mikepk
@Mathew I made a Hackintosh once, it worked alright, didn't support a couple different hardware in the system. In the end it was a little too buggy for me, but was a fun experiment. I also really like the flash and pizzaz of OS X, but I would probably miss the customization and tweaking that I can do on an Windows machine. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I have, but was concerned over the lack of Hard Drive space in most of them. Can any netbook owners offer any opinions? Are they viable work machines, or lacking in performance? Most of my work is through web sites and Photoshop. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
You can do plenty of customization with OS X. I use Candybar and and something called Secrets to do a lot of interface changes and software changes. - Mathew™ one of a kind
I'd guess photoshop would be tough on a netbook. I also think most netbooks don't have optical drives either (anyone confirm/deny this?). - mikepk
From what I know Photoshop would not run well on a netbook. And besides, you would be working on a 13" or smaller screen at 800 x 600 resolution. - Mathew™ one of a kind
You get what you pay for...it's no different with laptops. MacBooks *are* high quality notebooks. - Charles Bihis
EEK. Eff that. I need at least 1280x768, preferably 1440x900 - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
And besides, if you really want a Macbook you can get them discounted. Just watch Macmall.com. That is where I got my Macbook Pro. Got a $2500 laptop for just a little over $1400. - Mathew™ one of a kind
And don't get me started on their crap-ass bloatware iTunes, either. - Steven Perez
Yeah iTunes is pretty bloaty, but I still love it. I can't live without Genius. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Thanks MikePK and Mathew for clearing my initial reaction up. I wasn't exactly clear about the system I was looking for, my first reaction was just based on the kind of money I was looking to spend rather than the use/hardware I would need out of it. Apple's quality and design is far superior to PC's, but I've never been one for "Designer models", rather than the most for my buck. :) - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I have no issues with iTunes. Runs great, lets me play my music and if I want to buy music through iTunes I can do so pretty quickly. - Mathew™ one of a kind
np, I was genuinely curious if the apple price premium margin had increased since I bought my laptop (2.5ish years ago). Looks like it's roughly the same, more, but not a lot more when comparing the same specs. - mikepk
I think itunes runs a lot better on OSX than on Windows, that may be the primary difference. - mikepk
It certainly does. When I first used iTunes in OS X I was very surprised at how much better it ran. - Mathew™ one of a kind
the last music I bought was the "Eminem Show", the CD even, 6 years ago and have not looked back - sofarsoShawn
I've definitely switched over to Amazon for my MP3 purchases. Saving $.10 per song makes a difference, especially for my broke ass. :D - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
i won't buy any apple product cus i think they are way overpriced i don't use itunes either. I use amazon for mp3's - Angela P.
which dell comes with a video editing, audio recording, picture organizing, dvd menu creating software bundle? ;) - Joshua Schnell
Apple can sell their products higher then everyone else due to owning the stores which they sell in. Thus controlling the prices ;) - Nicholas James
@Haggis I shop between Amazon and iTunes. Because sometimes Amazon isn't cheaper then iTunes or its the same price. - Mathew™ one of a kind
I shop at mininova & demonoid prices slashed! - sofarsoShawn
Sean you can try making a hackintosh http://i.gizmodo.com/5156903... - Alfredo
thing is, Apple uses commodity hardware - it's not "higher quality" stuff, if that was so then show me the DFI mobo's in them! Just standard intel made boards? then you're not getting the best quality on the market! Just look on the net as to how many peoples laptops are breaking due to manufacturing defects (the mba hinge problem for example) - alphaxion
Don't get me wrong, I love the OS and the style of the machines, but don't think you're getting the most souped up, highest quality hardware cause you're demonstrably not. - alphaxion
Pfff lame Macs are better if you're not poor - sofarsoShawn
I'm poor...and I have a new Macbook...and after the confetti has settled and the bedazzlers are rubbed off it's just another overpriced "punch me in the mouth for following the lot" laptop. For shame on me.. - Terence
Wakes you up, eh??? - Roberto Bonini
alphaxion, there is still a range of commodity stuff. I was talking the level of the components. Usually Apple uses the higher end of the commodity range even in their "low level" laptop. Since apple designs their own mobo's, I'm not sure what that has to do with it (from an intel ref design I'm sure, but still). The point being, Apple is more expensive, but not as much as most people complain about. If you think you're getting the same HW in a $400 Dell that you get in a Macbook you're very mistaken. - mikepk
and I'm very non-partisan when it comes to these Apple v. Windows debates... not sure why I keep commenting. :) - mikepk
you are getting very sleepy...your eyelids are getting very heavy.... - Russell Wagner
I'm poor and I have a Macbook Pro and I don't regret getting it. Like I said before, I love Apple because of OS X. The extra prettiness of the laptop and the bells and whistles are just icing on the cake for me. - Mathew™ one of a kind
I agree with Matthew here. My MBP is super sweet. OS X is smooth like butter. Plus, the construction and build quality of everything feels far superior to my HP. Or even my dad's brand spanking new HP. - Mike Nayyar
Go for a refurb. Start at $850 with Apple Warranty. http://store.apple.com/us... - stretta from twhirl
@mike I was talking about the components too. They may design them, but they don't fab them. That fab takes place in the same factories as most of the consumer gear is. And as I said, just take a trawl of the net and see how many people have broken kit that wasn't them being careless (I gave the example of the mba hinge). I'm pointing out that you're paying higher prices for effectively the same kit as other OEMs. And I don't have a fav side either, I just don't agree with some comments. - alphaxion
But, lets me honest here, every computer is going to have problems. But, overall the percentage of defective computers period is very very low. I'm willing to accept that the components in all computers aren't going to all be perfect. But, I will say, that thus far every computer I've owned as been good hardware wise, its the OS that sucked (talking to you windows). - Mathew™ one of a kind
Wait until August and you get a free itouch and printer if you order from the student site - John Flynn
Oh I know what you mean about the OS - the last OS I really loved was RISC OS.. since then every single one has niggles that I just don't like (yes, ALL of them). Tho I don't think there has ever been a "fair" argument in this perpetual "Mac's better than all other PC's" battle because both are quite different in their market dynamics. But I have been hearing more and more that Apples just aren't of the same quality as they used to be. - alphaxion
(and I get sucked in again :) ) I wasn't saying the *physical quality* of the components (ie failure rate, etc...). I was saying that in the spectrum of the *performance* of commodity components even their low end machines tend to have higher end components (spec wise). So comparing a $499 dell with a slower CPU, slower FSB, previous generation RAM, lower end graphics chip with the "low end" macbook is not a fair comparison price wise. That was my only point. :) - mikepk
And my experience with Dell laptops (for example) the build quality was way worse than my MBP. The creaky plastic, flex and bad fit were obvious in the machine I had. I also had keyboard keys "flip over", connected by a little ribbon but flipped upside down on the KB, if I typed just the right way. This was years ago so it could be their quality has gone up, dunno. - mikepk
For $1,300.00 you get a 160GB HD... http://is.gd/n5Gs - Percival
@mike a lot of dell stuff has gone really bad quality since about 2003/2004. I retired some servers from that generation in december 2008, not because of performance but because they were 4 years old and we had a habit of replacing anything that old regardless of the reliability/performance. We had some Dell laptops from 2004 that were still going strong too. - alphaxion

What? Someone got her number? - Mo Kargas
Holy Shit, she must have been returning from that party. - vijay
Anyone with access to her LinkedIN profile? - vijay
The whois for her site doesn't seem to list a number - Bec Rowe @d0tski
THE ONE TIME BRIGHTKITE WOULD'VE BEEN USEFUL AND SHE DOESN'T HAVE IT :>( - vijay
This is very concerning. - Micah Wittman
Mohomed, I'm her FB friend. What can I do? - vijay
Bumping this. Who knows her phone number?? - nakachi
MOHOMED!!! WHAT CAN I DO ON FB? HURRY! - vijay
anybody her friend on FB? Check your phonebook to see if she's posted a number - nakachi
Her message is in ping.fm so her FB status is already updated Mohomed. Is there any other info you need to track her down? - vijay
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Shevonne via phone - or who lives near her? The tweet was sent via ping.fm - does that mean it's from her phone? - WorldofHiglet
Is there a way to message her friends on FB? - vijay
I'm her friend on FB and there's no number in her info - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Crap. And her phone number isn't on her FB page either. :-( - Lisa L. Seifert
She doesn't have a number listed in FB's phonebook Nakachi. - vijay
Ok. I know it's scary, but she's out partying. It *could* be a drunk tweet. I, however, have no idea how long we should wait to find out. :( - nakachi
I think the time it would take her to tweet this she could just call 911, right? - Lindsey is Fierce!
*personal info deleted* does this help? - Bec Rowe @d0tski
911 gets you to the spanish voice mail for the Highway Patrol in my town. In No. CA - Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
I think she's probably ok you guys - Lindsey is Fierce!
Let's all hope she means like getting attacked by a cold or flu. I'd hate to think someone is getting harmed and no one can help out in any way - Outsanity
I don't think we have enough reason to start calling the cops. Call her, yes. Call the cops and tell them she posted an ubiquitous tweet? Not so much, ya'll. I'm being serious. - nakachi
Her previous tweet is of her being at a party! Her next tweet is "getting attacked!" C'mon guys! - vijay
I'm sure she's just having fun with her friends - Lindsey is Fierce!
Here's the newest Tweet: "Found my friend! Safe in VIP room. Guys are so disrespectful" - Christopher Harley
Lindsey, I don't think anybody's sure of anything. That's why we should err on the side of not calling the cops. But, yeah. - nakachi
I hope she is ok - I've @ed her to ask her to tweet she is okay - if she is following any of you you could try a DM - WorldofHiglet
I seriously hope you're right Lindsey. Makes sense to me that this could be a drunk tweet. - vijay
Good drill folks - Christopher Harley
New rule! Don't tweet things that can alarm others like that. :( - Rochelle
STAND DOWN — she's ok, just twittered a couple of minutes ago. - Glen Mistletoe
she's FINE! - vijay
she is ok according to a tweet 2 mins ago - Josh Haley
Whew. Now I can go drink more bleach. AFK. - Akiva Moskovitz
UPDATE: Her drink is empty. REPLENISH! STAT! - Christopher Harley
I found the 123People site, as well, Bec. I called the first number listed and a man said it was the wrong number. - Lisa L. Seifert
that 123people site is scary....I don't want to look myself up just in case! - WorldofHiglet
Phew! Just saw the comment above that she's tweeted again. Yay! :-) - Lisa L. Seifert
Vijay's commitment deserves credit. Good job. - Sprague D
But don't you guys think that if she could use Ping.fm in a dangerous situation that she'd call 911 instead? Give the girl some credit. - Admiral Anika
That reaction to her tweet was very impressive!! (Seriously) I had to reach the police a couple of days ago--they NEVER arrived. The FF squad here would have proven much more effective than numerous calls to the authorities. This has turned out well and we can laugh at an 'over-reaction.' But I offer kudos to you all. - Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Obviously glad she's alright. This tweet + reaction _so_ better be discussed on the next FFundercats. - Micah Wittman
Wowsers. This will teach Shevonne to be careful what she tweets!! It is on her FB too. Glad to know FF got her back! - Amani
It was a bunch of horny guys grabbing on her apple bottom ... - Amani
She's our girl. We love her. We always protect the ones we love. :) - Helen Sventitsky
Jesus. I need an illegal substance. That was a lot. - nakachi
@Anika, this guy didn't think so http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn... (apparently, in Egypt calling 122 is the equivalent to 911 http://travel.state.gov/travel... ) - Micah Wittman
Better be safe than sorry - Mo Kargas
Micah, that's a completely different situation. I guess I've seen way too many of these sorts of things escalate to the point of personal info being posted. I DMd her and got a reply back quick. No need for all this drama. - Admiral Anika
Also, in this case, since it was clear she was out partying, my first thought was that she was getting hit on, not actually attacked. - Admiral Anika
I've deleted the link to personal info I posted, suggest others do too. - Bec Rowe @d0tski
Anika, I agree with you. But it wasn't clear what the situation was. What if she called 911 then tweeted (I don't know, having enough time locked in her car). The scenarios where it's a reasonable interpretation are, though improbable, endless. - Micah Wittman
I've deleted the link to personal info I posted, suggest others do too - Christopher Harley
Thanks Mohomed for the help! :) Glad it turned out to be far less serious. Now that things are back to normal, let's all bury this thread and move on to regular FF :) - vijay
After this last thought I'm taking vjay's advice to let this thread wash away with the tide. Anika's right about the problem of personal information leakage, and in the future I expect social engineering scams will only raise the stakes. On the other hand, no one wants to see (much less be complicit in) another justin.tv style tragedy either http://mashable.com/2008... - Micah Wittman
Mohomed, people should just not tweet things that can be read as an emergency unless it really is an emergency. - Rochelle
There was no personal information leaked. I emailed Shevonne at the addy she posted in the sidebar of her Twitter page and called the mobile that she posted on a profile page accessible to anyone that searches her name + phone number. - Christopher Harley
I'm guessing Shevonne was being attacked, but not in a life-threatening way. It was annoying/invasive enough to tweet and she would not have realised it was being interpreted that way. - WorldofHiglet
Woah, was this whole thing a joke? Please tell me yes. - Charles Bihis
No, not a joke, Charles. Just a misunderstanding. - Christopher Harley
...well put. - Charles Bihis
I'll admit that I was ignorant in not knowing the full extent, if any, of the danger she was in but as for being disquiet over the anxiety that such a raw plea should elicit, all I can say is that hindsight is always 20/20. - Christopher Harley
The hashtag does sound like an interesting idea. Perhaps an iPhone or Android app can be created to tweet one's location with the hashtag at the press of a button (plus a *very* quick verification to make sure the buttton isn't accidentally pressed). - Rishabh Mishra (p248)

I do not subscribe to the Highlander (there can be only one) theory of social networks. It isn't Twitter OR FriendFeed OR Facebook. I have yet to hear a rational explanation of why, ultimately, there will be only one left standing. Here is your chance - Explain it to me.
I also don't buy that any of the three is actively trying to take the others user base. - Brian Roy
Think about it... added all together we are talking about < 200mm users. The opportunity for growth OUTSIDE those 200mm is much greater than stealing the couple dozen million users of another social network. - Brian Roy
I think you're comparing apples to oranges here. Twitter vs Facebook vs FriendFeed...one's a micro-blogging service, another a social network in the traditional sense, and the last a service and news aggregator of sorts. Now, comparing Twitter vs Pownce, Facebook vs MySpace, Digg vs Reddit, Delicious vs StumbleUpon, Loopt vs BrightKite, etc, that's a different issue completely, and I think is a more relevant question. - Charles Bihis
Charles - I agree. People seem to say (over and over again - do a search) that Facebook, Twitter, and FriendFeed are in some kind of winner take all death match. I'm NOT one of those people. - Brian Roy
Charles, you're missing the point completely. Brian is addressing the recent *drama* over which of these services is going to "win". Lots of so-called tech experts have been wetting themselves over this false questions. Brian's post addresses it. - Admiral Anika
Charles - here is an example - 4th up from bottom: http://friendfeed.com/e... - Brian Roy
Shocking - no one wants to explain the "only one will survive" point of view? - Brian Roy
Brian, Anika, yes you're right. I'm in the same boat. I guess what I should have said was that *they* are comparing apples to oranges...not you Brian :) - Charles Bihis

HOW TO: Manage Multiple Social Media Profiles - http://mashable.com/2009...
simple : don't ! - TiTi
I think an important aspect is keeping as clear a distinction between the services as you can get. As in, one music service, one location-based service, one video service, one bookmarking service, one photo-sharing service, etc. That way, when you do something, you won't be updating multiple profiles at once. I know, easier said than done, but it helps. - Charles Bihis

it depends on some people, that's right. there is no "one surefire way" to lose weight (apart from stop eating completely, but i dont recommend that to anyone). people are too different and need to find their own tips and tricks. my mother only recently just turned 50 and she's only just now having to start excercising, her metabolism has been great over the years (looks like i got my dads genes hahah) - Terry O'Fee

I've loved it, but the 4th season had some deep issues for me. Splitting up the castaways was weird. Although of course I get why they did it, it seems very poorly motivated. Also not straight up killing Ben at this point seems dumb. HE SHOT LOCKE IN THE DAMN CHEST. Stuff like that. - Steve Isaacs
So excited!! I can't wait to see Desmond. I can't wait to see where Kate runs off to! I just can't wait! - Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕

I'm excited. I have a total emotional attachment to so many characters that I'll prob watch it as long as it airs. That said...I think it's kinda irritating that they are making the explainations for everything whacky that's happened a time-travel, physics thing that only Stephen fuckin Hawking can understand.
