Now this is a dog after my heart. Whereas mine looks at me ruefully as if to say could you turn that down just a bit.... - Ruth Ferguson via Bookmarklet
Remove both ends from a tomato past can and thoroughly wash it. Carefully bend one open end of the can into the tulip shape. The metal is soft enough that it bends it easily, but you might want to use some household items to help you bend in the details (like the petal points on the tulip) - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
"A year ago a footage emerged from a remote village in India . The video showed a young girl receiving surgery to separate her fingers, which were badly burned and fused together. Why did this operation make headlines around the world? The surgery was performed by a 7-year-old boy named Akrit Jaswal." - Zee at WeDoCreative via Bookmarklet
saw a documentary on this kid. he wants to cure cancer and pretty much says he will. he is a very cocky kid, but if he cures cancer then i don't care what he is like. - Chris Harris
Don't worry Hao, you were in good company. And as I remember, you were one of the few voices of skepticism in the thread. Also, as Mike mentioned in his post, you get bonus points for coining the phrase "shiny-object-rolled" :P - Daniel Smith
Apparently me too. Meh . . . that's what I get for not reading everything. - Lindsey Smith
Yeah, I even READ it and asked for an invite. Silly, silly Schmeesy... Apparently my comprehension rate has slowed down a bit since I took all of those tests back in my school days. :-| - Lisa L. Seifert
@Brian, is Louis' involvement that obvious? Sorry Louis, I kept it quiet as long as possible... - Daniel Smith
Please favor me w/invite, thank you. dave dot martin at gmail - Dave Martin
Getting more skeptical by the minute... - Hao Chen
How is this any different than FriendFeedFeed (http://friendfeedfeed.com) which was launched about 1 day after FriendFeed (other than they have a functioning fake website) ? :) - Clint Ecker
Okay, I'll be the first to admit, I've been shinyobject-rolled. - Hao Chen
yes, would like to try! furukama [ta] yahoo [tod] de - Benedikt Koehler
Daniel Smith: I filled out the form to participate...should I still give Mike my email to send me an invite? - Justin Korn
I fell for it, too, at first. Just read the post. Trust me. I was actually IMing with Daniel while I was reading it and in mid-comment I realized what was up and just said "OK, I'm stupid". - Neal "thePuck" Jansons
OK, I'm up for anything new. chilaquiles@gmail.com - Steven Perez
@Justin: It might not hurt to hit us both up, just in case. - Daniel Smith
An invite this way please? v9y dot tech at gmail. - Vinay | विनय
A "friend of mine" is begging for an invite, his e-mail addy: Sucker@Web2.0.com, Go Stalker Stream! :-) - Majento (Early Adopter :)
@Majento: I seem to get a bounce-back from that email. I'm not sure what could be the issue. I'm looking at it right above this box and I typed the address letter-for-letter. And I mean, it has to be real, it's on the internet... A little help? - Daniel Smith
Mike - If you or Louis give me one more thing to check out ... I quit ! - Charlie Anzman
*slaps head* Duh. Ha ha ha... ;-) Now that I've had coffee and reread this post, feeling a little gullible. :-| - Lisa L. Seifert
awesome Sanjay! Have you used that click monkeys service? Sounds really cool. - Tim Hoeck
I'll take an invite please krynsky at yahoo dotcom [edit] note to self...make sure to read stories before blindly jumping on bandwagons...out of my way lemmings. - Mark Krynsky
if there's any place left: zjemily [ta] gmail [tod] com - Elijah Bailey
@Sanjay ClickMonkeys is a veteran in this space, and it's funny you should mention them- they are slated to be our official monetization partner! - Daniel Smith
@Elijah We wanted to send you an invite, but your anti-spam measures were so thorough, even people couldn't piece the email back together. Sorry :( - Daniel Smith
@Daniel "my friend" says you should try again, his mail server is up now. Your new service has created so much buzz... he keeps nagging about the invite, please send him one so i can get back to my routine. - Majento (Early Adopter :)
@Daniel: well played my man! now please don't tell us you're really the avatar for a bunch of postgrad students studying 'social media.' lolz - .LAGizmoto
Nope, just a snide social media commentator like the rest of you ;) - Daniel Smith
Agreed, it used to be one to recite word for word - Vicky Pearce
Ahhh, gotcha. So then were you more of a Thrashin' fan? - Corie Allison
Nah, more like Animal Chin :))) And hey, how come "10 Things I Hate About You" didn't make the list either? - Iain Baker
Iain, I was just about to ask that same question. That's definitely one of my favorite HS movies. - Corie Allison
But Animal Chin was not totally a movie, right? It was a bunch of real skateboarders and there was a little bit of a plot, if I remember correctly. - Corie Allison
yeah, point taken - but even if the plot was flimsy, it's still a classic :) - Iain Baker
"I like my Sketchers, but I *love* my Prada backpack." - Roger Benningfield
Last American Virgin and Better off Dead would be on my list. - Andrew Leyden
Heathers - big thumbs up. I never understood the appeal of Sixteen Candles. It was ok, but not a great Hughes film in my book. Better Off Dead definately needs to be there. - Michael W. May (Joffi)
why isn't valley girl on that list? that movie never gets props yet it is probably my favorite (and that of many others). - Cee Bee
As embarrassed as I am to put it out there, "10 Things I Hate About You" should at least be on the honorable mention list. Oh, and I second Pump Up the Volume. I'd definitely put that before Clueless. - Kevin Fox
Cee Bee, that's one of my favorites as well. - Corie Allison
Cooley High? American Graffiti? and how about umm...Donnie Darko! - Carlos Ayala
(just realized that AG was on the list, didnt mean to be repetitious). - Carlos Ayala
This has turned out to be an awesome list of some really great HS films. +1 for Cee Bee and "Valley Girl" and I definitely think "10 Things I Hate About You" should've been there, that was a great film. - Emma
Donnie Darko's arguably a better film than anything on this list, but to me it sort of transcends the "high school movie" genre - Nathan Rein
Excellent list! I've actually seen most of these movies. Fast Times at Ridgemont High is near the top of my list. - Jeff P. Henderson
I just looked at the honorable mentions, and I've gotta say: enough with the Pretty In Pink love! Some Kind of Wonderful was the same movie, only with better lead actors and an ending that wasn't reshot to suit test audiences. - Roger Benningfield
Facebook should get serious about making some money, in whatever way possible, because their burn rate is going to send them to the scrap heap before too long if they don't. - Jason Carreira
@Jason Carreira - Facebook doesn't lose money, except for additional investments they make. If there were problems ahead, which clearly aren't, they could go the MySpace-route and stop developing the site. (Ok, MySpace woke up since Facebook started the its platform. But before that, they only did maintenance.) - sebmos
Do you have a link that says they don't lose money? Last I heard they were borrowing an additional $100 million to buy more hardware, and the Microsoft ad revenue has been disappointing. I'd be glad to be wrong because I think the impending collapse of FB will be a bubble-bursting event for Web 2.0... - Jason Carreira
If Facebook wants to be a business utility it must change to serve people like Buzz Bruggeman, CEO of ActiveWords. He has 12,000 contacts in Outlook. He can't move them to FB. So it remains a place to play games and not do real business. - Robert Scoble
@Zee - You totally hit that nail. I *tried* to use FB for serious stuff ... it didn't work. Now I just play Arrested Development trivia on there. Works for me. - Laura Norvig
It strikes me as a little ridiculous to see "[service] must change to serve [insert extreme edge case here]". Plenty of people are, obviously, not that guy, and don't need that capacity/capability. Would it be nice to be able to accommodate every edge case? Sure. Practical and necessary, right now, in the grand scheme of things? Not so much. - abacab
Yeah, unfortunately "revenue" is an edge case in Web 2.0 - Jason Carreira
nice, he could take it to car shows - Chris Harris
Car shows? Heck, he could take it to a small country and overthrow the government! - XDpaul
I want to see it in action. "He's flying on rooftops!" - Michael
One of the best parts is the comments on the page, like this: "So much for the security of anonymity whilst fighting crimes in his small Texas town now that we know his true identity." - Corie Allison
Or this one: "Not that it isn't cool, it is. This is what happens when you get married. Out in the shop just building shit because you don't dare go inside and mess something up or touch anything. Like your wife frinstance." - Corie Allison
I didn't realize you could be that old and still be a virgin? Hmph. - l0ckergn0me
i like his attitude in this email. he isn't going off the handle about it which is sometimes expected with him. - Chris Harris
i actually want to see a screen cap of the email. for all we know, he could've been flippin a shit and this is another PR move..... just saying ;) - Mona N.
I wonder how well his 20/20 hindsight matches recommendations from people in the trenches. I seriously doubt the people close to MobileMe were not aware of the problems and risks. How far up the chain did those concerns reach? - Kevin D. White
IMHO, the PMs and MobileMe department heads are responsible. Passing working demos to Jobs, just for it to get checked off, is absolutely unacceptable. I'm pretty sure heads will roll, given the amount of PR was spun around an "enterprise for consumers". This would've / could've been HUGE but they EF'd up royally. - Mona N.
@Kevin. I agree completely. There's no way that the devs weren't aware of the problems. There were just far to many issues. It looked to me like the product just wasn't ready, but they launched regardless in order to hit the release date. Either the devs didn't communicate their concerns to management or management didn't listen. I would bet on the later. - Paul Grav
I think it's a good move to have an Internet Services division, and MobileMe can only benefit from it after the dust of the botched launch settles. - Antoine Bertier via Moopz
Regardless of if the devs communicated or not, it's the PMs and their management's faults. I mean pointing fingers is not going to solve anything, but it shows the kind of corporate structure they (Apple) has. And we, as consumers, should not excuse the MobileMe FAIL. Period. - Mona N.
Antoine: Wouldn't that create another Microsoft, type FAIL cycle? I'm sorry, but NO THANKS - Mona N.
Mona: it seems to me that in Apple, only the iTunes Store guys understand Internet services. .mac always felt like an after thought and never really got it. So i'd say they should either stop trying, or try to get some of the iTunes Store guys look after things like MobileMe: because if there is one other place where you want an iTunes like experience it is MobileMe. - Antoine Bertier
Just be happy people are liking your posts and stop complaining. Just saying. - David Cook
@Gordon Swaby that's not going to bother him because you explained why you liked it. you have to just like it and then walk away to bother him :) - Chris Harris
Hey, at least you're getting likes =) Honestly though, unless the existing conversation moves me I'm often someone who likes and moves on. Unless it's something I can't actually like but warrants a comment. - Stupid Blogger (aka Tina)
I like things to tell other people to check them out. Once in a while I like things to put them on my link page so I can get to them later. I often don't have a reason. Just that the item belongs on my like page. - Robert Scoble
Sometimes I'll Like things because they strike a chord with me at that moment - you know, make me smile knowlingly or snigger indulgently or nod my head sagely in agreement (like I did with this post) - but they don't trigger my need to respond. Or I Like things because I don't want to lose sight of them in the data flow and I can look at my Likes to find them again. I often subscribe to the posters of things I Like as soon as I've done commenting, so I'll see any responses to MY responses - so there's a certain amount of self-interest involved. But I'm also genuinely interested in seeing what else turns up in my feed from them - on that basis, you've just won yourself another subscriber, Colby :) - Bob Kingsley
Liking stuff on FF is like tagging them that they are interesting. It's not required to comment. Also, Liking stuff boosts some score to your item at the top. If it was required to comment when you "Like", then FF should have forced you to do that in the first place. It's like "Dear blah, you can't 'Like' this without entering a comment". - AJ Batac (Yoda)
I'm much more likely to "Like" something when I'm browsing FriendFeed on my iPhone. It's like saying, "Hey, I like this, but I can't tell you why because it'd take 20 minutes to type." - Andy DeSoto
When I do not comment, it's because I just want to be able to get this item in my liked feed. I tend to like more than I comment, but that's also my character. - Antoine Bertier
While I understnad your concern, Colby, I don't really feel like I should be required to explain why I like an item. Sometimes there is just something I want to save so I can refer to it later. It would be silly to like something, comment on it without reading the material, and then read it later on knowing that your opinion could be different. Just my opinion. :) - James Mowery via twhirl
Colby: I think everyone did a good job of explaining that commenting is not necessary. I think you need to rethink what the LIKE is for and that the word choice was not the best by FriendFeed. Typically, LIKE means one wants other people to see it or they want to "bookmark" it for later. Commenting only comes when one actually has something to say about what has been shared. Everyone uses these mechanisms differently, but that is the general consensus I have seen. - Justin Korn
Totally didnt mean to come off rude or anything, just making a statement. - Colby Olson
The more likes there are, the more likely that people will comment. - Here's... possible248!
I read a great comment last week, it went something like this, "sometimes I just like to like things -- is that so wrong?" - Steve Spalding
No problem here, Colby. I don't know if you are too, but I'm pretty new to FF and with only a small number of subscribers, relatively few of my entries get Liked, let alone Commented, so what you posted struck a chord with me, but I took it to be one of those stream of consciousness entries we all make from time to time - you were talking to yourself as much as anyone else - and anyway, for newbies like me I feel it's probably not bad advice. People get to know you through the comments you leave, and hopefully subscribe. - Bob Kingsley
i use like as an easy way to say - "good sh*t" i don't want to have to explain myself. it's also good as a "bump" for something i feel is interesting to push to the top of the page so it gets more visibility. - Morgan
Can we please all just let each other use friendfeed however each of us sees fit to use it? That would really make me happy. [Just for reference, you can "like" my posts, comment on my posts, ignore my posts, print my posts out to line your birdcage, or any combination of the above. You can even make up your own things to do with my posts if the mood strikes you. My posts come with no presupposed ruleset.] - David Worrell
@David, I hear you on that, and I wouldnt want people to think that there's a rule involved that you must comment when Liking, but just as an interesting concept, I would like to know why someone Liked it, leading me to find more of that "Liked" content. - Colby Olson
Sometimes I 'like' things, that draw attention to something, even though I might disagree with what is being said. If I 'like' something I have usually read it first. Sometimes I can't be bothered making a 'me too' comment; so I just click like and move on. - Chris Loft
Will happily take the commentless 'likes' that Colby is "tired" of receiving. - TDavid
"Here’s a closer look at the 303 newspaper Twitter accounts (28 more than last month). On average, each account as 131.85 followers — down slightly from last month. The “new to me” accounts are marked according to when I discovered them. Accounts that have not posted any updates are marked with an asterisk." - andy brudtkuhl via Bookmarklet
I forgot I found this yesterday. This is one of those games that when I saw the gameplay video, lots of memories came rushing back to me. Ducktales NES FTW! - Paul Reynolds
