They probably don't have jobs to worry about anyway.

youropenbook is such a wonderful little tool. This is just the tip of the 'berg, though. There are a lot more postings involving things I wouldn't even tell my best friend.

http://bluefive.pair.com/alarm... - alarm clock, just download it. You can use your favourite song as alarm sound)), and you don't need internet conection, just your PC is being worked all the time.
- obolonskyi
Misha, did you just said the word "download"???
- Orli Yakuel
What's this download thing you're talking about?
- Amit Morson
Nice programming exercise but you really don't want to count on this to wake you up. So many things can fail - your connection, your ISP, even your OS ... Nice for quick reminders to turn off the oven or something.
- Yuval Atzmon
atzmon, you can always use something for back up (or use this as back up to alarm clock, mobile, etc.,).
- Orli Yakuel
Well, if I use another (more reliable) device then this web app is redundant. Nicely done though.
- Yuval Atzmon
Brilliant. During exam time I set up as many alarm clocks as I can. Gnome Alarm, Amarok, my iPhone, physical alarm clock, and now... kukuclock. When 4 months of grueling work comes down to waking up at 7:20 am... the more clocks the better :)
- Derick Valadao
I've used this a few times as a quick egg timer
- Jason Cazier
This might come in mighty handy at work...

The Kindle for the textbook market is perfect...I think it has found its target market.
- Suhit Anantula
My college life would be so much easier and probably cheaper, with a kindle serving me textbooks. Better yet a platform for Professors to distribute reading assignments, to wake up with my day's readings downloaded would be heaven!
- Jason Cazier
from twhirl
It needs to get out of the way, agreed. But in the meantime, it needs to be less ugly.
- Anthony Citrano
textbooks yes, mainstream adoption - difficult
- AJ Kohn
Yes, has so much potential. Imagine a speed reading application on that thing...chunking sentences for you to help your eyes absorb all those long reading assignments
- Kim Mahan
Like I mentioned on Twitter, it could be worse. You could live where I am and have NO AT&T signal. I want an iPhone. Badly. Although a nice, unlimited broadband connection would be nice. ;)
- Zach Flauaus
Actually, I'm on Verizon. I have a Verizon Wireless EVDO card and a BlackBerry Pearl 8130. My EVDO card is hooked up to a Cradlepoint CTR350 that is shared on a stronger Linksys router to four devices: my MacBook Pro, my Mac Mini, my iPod touch, and my parent's Dell. Five gigabytes is nowhere near enough. On an average of 31 days, that's 165MB per day. I got hit on overages this past month: 171MB over + other data that wasn't billed in previous months apparently. $60. So I now pay $120 for the card.
- Zach Flauaus
EVDO is very nice compared to dial-up, especially when it's almost everywhere I go. But that point is only valid on my BlackBerry because I don't travel with the EVDO card. I wish I could get a better deal, but not at all.
- Zach Flauaus
I have an EvDO card and a new Treo with EvDO RevA. Trying to decide which is faster. Also use a Cradlepoint PHS. AT&T's 3G coverage has never impressed me at all.
- Andrew Feinberg
@Andrew So I'm assuming you're on Sprint? Will the new 5GB cap affect you much?
- Zach Flauaus
Exactly what I have found out. I like Verizon EVDO much better. I'm getting s Cradelpoint PHS, thanks to @mojoosd's advice.
- Francine Hardaway
@Mathew Sprint is going to enforce a new 5GB data cap (the exact same as Verizon Wireless) for all data transfer.
- Zach Flauaus
Now we know why the mobile phone companies are not rushing in to give us the latest hardware.. The carriers are not going to like them.
- Muthu Ramadoss
I agree, but I am prepared to not have any 3G coverage where I am once I get my iPhone. Hopefully though I'll end up getting a job in a bigger metro area and have it at least sometimes.
- Dean Clark
I am in the party that wishes even a few years down the road that they release a 4g cdma iphone :#
- Jason Cazier
@Jason 4G CDMA is an oxymoron. Verizon has already adapted LTE (Long Term Evolution) as their 4G network, and LTE is a GSM derivative. Sprint seems to be sticking with XOHM (WiMAX), so the technology that we have come to know and love as CDMA (1xRTT and EVDO) will be no longer in the future. Thought I'd let you know. :)
- Zach Flauaus
I absolutely agree with this. I switched from Sprint to get the iPhone and couldn't believe the lack of 3G coverage as compared to Sprint. Luckily, I'm still in a 3G area but it's still annoying that the largest mobile network has a lot of catching up to do in this area.
- Lise
A buddy of mine just discovered that his iPhone doesn't work in his apartment. Oops.
- iTad
Zach: I am not sure yet. I am on the road a lot for my job, plus I am trying to consolidate my bills and services from my two ATT phones (BB and N95) since I've taken a huge pay cut and am starting school again at night. Still, absolutely furious at Sprint right now, esp. since Cust. Service has hung up on me.
- Andrew Feinberg
By the time we have real 3G coverage, we'll be moving on to the next standard.
- Aram Zucker-Scharff
from twhirl
@Andrew Have you thought about just switching straight to AT&T? It might be the best thing in your position but I'm not sure. Get a tethering package for one of your phones?
- Zach Flauaus
Now I'm kind of tempted to do a blog post on all this. Hmm.
- Zach Flauaus
Zach: yes, but ATT's 3G service is awful, inconsistent, and slower than EVDO.
- Andrew Feinberg
I just came back from visiting relatives and had no cell service much of the time in SD and regular G the rest on AT&T. Rural areas get the shaft from cell companies.
- Eric - seven eleven
If 3G is unavailable, does the iPhone switch over to other networks that have signals? Or are you out of luck for any signal?
- Hutch Carpenter
Hutch: The iPhone's priority is 3G, then EDGE, then GPRS. Aka: Fast, ehh... And "Oh hell no!"
- Zach Flauaus
O2 3G coverage in the UK is pretty patchy too, in certain places it depends which side of a building I am on to get 3G or EDGE.
- Richard Peat
Not sure if there's any truth behind this, but it really seems that I had 3G in more places on my at&t Tilt prior to the iPhone 3G launch.
- Robert DeBord
from twhirl
@Robert, I get excellent 3G coverage driving in LA with my TIlt. Could this be a radio reception issue on the iPhone?
- Jericho
coverage, i.e. the network, thus the reason I am with Verizonwireless.
- Don Martelli
from twhirl
@SC Techcast, rural areas also get the shaft from telephone providers who won't offer DSL, and of course cable providers could care less. I live 40 minutes (on a good day) from an international airport, but at this point my only broadband options are satellite internet and Verizon EVDO. Both are expensive and limited services. AT&T is my cell provider, but no 3G extended this far as of...
- asiriusgeek
it seems to me the old iPhone is a better value.
- Bob Gannon
I am very disappointed in the AT&T coverage as well as the Customer Service I've received. I love my iPhone, but given a choice of service I'd choose Verizon.
- Jill Howard Allen
I got my iPhone 3G expecting that it might help deal with the fact that I get 0-1 bars of EDGE service at home. It turns out I don't get 3G at home at all, but I do less than 500 meters away from it, despite my living in the heart of Silicon Valley. Ugh.

coming soon: Apple re-chargeing stations at Starbucks, Loews theaters and Equinox Gyms.

What you need is a solar cell hat with a lead to a charger in your pocket. Make a fashion statement and charge your iPhone all at once.
- Christian Anderson
from fftogo
I need to find out how you do that without repercussions from the family ;)
- Ryan
The charger is so small you could carry it in a pocket like some sort of iPhone nomad searching for the nearest watering hole.

All this iPhone talk is making me.... ummm I don't think I can say that on here.

The lack of MMS is disappointing from the iPhone, is it worth me picking up the iPod Touch and keeping my current mobile K850i??
- Joe Dawson
I have yet to meet the first person who uses MMS... :)
- Holger Eilhard
@grant the simpson ride is okay, i'm more for the coasters that actually move instead of ones that simulate motion
- Shane Grant
The only thing I'm jealous of on my brothers Instinct is that it comes with an EXTRA battery
- Adam
who needs mms when you have full featured email and attachments?
- Eric_T
@Eric_T Exactly. That's what I'm thinking. And even the cheap regular phones have an email client. Don't know about the US but MMS prices over here are horrible. I'd rather get a small data plan than using MMS.
- Holger Eilhard
mmmmm, doesnt speak well for iphone battery power. Maybe need a small laptop and go with that instead
- Richard Binhammer
Robert, have you tried doing a full restore on your iPhone 3G to bump its firmware build from 5A345 to 5A347? I did that last night and so did my mate and the battery usage appears to be much better. (He was told to do this by O2 here in the UK who had told him the battery drains more quickly with 5A345 because it's not sending enough current to the 3G antenna, so it's always searching for a better 3G signal... or something along those lines.)
- Tony Ruscoe
Richard: it's the usage that's the problem. The new iPhone is so much nicer to use in a whole bunch of scenarios. Tony, nope, I haven't done that. Will try to do that when I get home.
- Robert Scoble
Thanks for the info on the restore of the iPhone .. the battery life on my phone is terrible, hopefully this improves it.
- Ryan
I picked up the kensington extentsion and so far it is working great.
- Scott Watermasysk
any updates on the different external chargers?
