Sure, it might’ve been a cold day to loiter in front of a record store, and sure, we were the only four girls in line; but hell, Jimmy had never seemed to mind much before, even when we passed around a cigarette or two. We considered ourselves his unofficial clapboards; his advertisers of cool.  “You’re like those Star Wars kids, y’know, with the tents,” grumbled Jimmy’s son Donny —sixteen and in possession of a car, which only boosted his resemblance to Shaun Cassidy in our minds (perhaps the long hair and ridiculous sideburns had something to do with it too)—as he brought us all hot cocoa, while Jimmy puttered about opening the store. “Yeah, but we got lives,” Thea said. Thea was our Hawke; she had been since she was twelve. When she told a joke, everyone laughed—except Donny. “Dunno ‘bout that,” said Donny, refusing to meet her eyes. Lots of boys refused to meet Thea’s eyes. “You’re here, ain’t ya?” “So ‘re you,” I said, tilting my chin up defiantly. I always wanted to be Aveline, though I was afraid I was more like Bethany. He met my eyes and smirked. “I work here,” he said. Donny really did have these eyes, you know? Big brown things, make you forget what you were saying. I certainly did. “Not helpin’ your case,” said Molly with a sweet smile. She was a tough one to label. She had hair like Merrill but a body like Isabela’s. Also, she was too cool for boys. I wished I was too cool for boys. Donny scowled and went back inside without looking at me again. “Why’d you gotta do that?” I said to Molly and Thea. “Don’t tell me you like him,” Thea said, rolling her eyes and folded her arms over her chest. She looked like a disappointed teacher. “No,” I was quick to point out. “But you don’t gotta be rude, neither.” Deb—our Bethany—looked up from her book; this week it was Catcher in the Rye, though last week it was Das Kapital, which got her in trouble at school. “He is kind of cute,” she conceded. “Except for the braces.” “And he’s got a car,” added Molly, a wicked grin on her face. “I think Abby’s in loooove.” “No—NO,” I said, waving my hands before me. “Stop it.” Thea didn’t seem to find the humor in this discussion. “With Donny? Get real.”  “Yeah,” I added with a nod, though for some reason her dismissal irked me. Thea put her hands on her hips. “He’s just a Sugar Babe,” she said loftily. “Yeah—what?” “And Sugar Babes come and go,” she continued, looking at me from the corner of her eye. “But Sugar Bitches are for life.” JUST READ THIS. **wibs**

Also whenever I apply the Bechdel test to music I end up with like six songs that I can listen to. So kudos to you! Thank you dear!  I couldn’t quite make the Bechdel test or any similar requirements - and I didn’t stick to female musicians only, because more often than not it’s men that sing about badass women, and not always just to get with them.  *shrugs*  But, I hope you enjoy it!   Listening now and it’s great! I find with the Bechdel test you have to take the results with a grain of salt: it’s one of those things that isn’t supposed to be a categorical determiner of how good something is, it’s just supposed to highlight how few woman-centric stuff there is out there. Either way, this fanmix is full of good songs about badass women :) Yup, that’s it.  Mostly, I was just feeling sorry for myself that there isn’t a better way for songs that aren’t just all lovey-dovey you know?   I’m so glad you’re enjoying it!

Truth to be said, I never really watched SPN until some months ago, and I don’t know exactly why it took me so long. I had mentally put it into the “Ghost Whisperer&friends” category without further investigation, shame on me. I blame the cheap dubbed version airing here in Italy. But then, some friends and the beautiful fan artwork by *euclase convinced me to give this show a chance. A few episodes of season 1 and… ta-dah. Dean and Sam gained another fangirl. Now, it’s definitely time for me to express my newfound mania in some figurative way. Which may be an exercise in futility, considering the amount of amazing SPN artists that are already there. But… I love this show. And when I realize I love something, the next logical thing for me to do is start drawing it.  TECH STUFF: Photoshop CS3 + Tablet. I’ve adapted to calling pencil crayons colored pencils, and removing or re-arranging letters from certain words for reasons that I’m not quite sure of, except perhaps there was some sort of great alphabet war in America, which resulted in a shortage of Us and required a special treaty negotiation over the order of Es and Rs in certain situations, for example.  I’ve accepted the fact that I can’t just go to the gas station and get myself ridiculous amounts of Aero bars, Crunchie Bars, Caramilk bars, or Smarties (no, not those smarties) and that in general, if I am to eat a candy bar, the chocolate it features will be disappointing in comparison.   I’m barely scraping by on the knowledge that I must spend most of my life without sour keys/sour soothers candy.  Please do not even make me discuss the travesty of ketchup not being a staple flavor of potato chips. But… must you also deny me this beautiful combination of crispy french fries, topped liberally with cheese curds that have been made soft by the warmth of delicious gravy, and is basically heaven-in-my-mouth-please-and-thank-you?  Surely you can get access to all these ingredients!  Surely, that would not be so terribly difficult. I know cheese curds exist in the US too, though apparently nowhere as convenient as perhaps my local grocery stores so that I could at least make some substandard equivalent.  (And no! Shredded cheese does not work.  It is not the same.  Please do not try to persuade me of this.  I have, in my desperation, already tried this).  I think really this is not too much to ask.  Alternatively, if you must insist on refusing bringing this wonderful and inspired dish across the border, I will also settle for universal health care instead.  Sincerely, A concerned U.S. Citizen You are my hero right now. And this made me laugh so hard. Also? YES. ALL OF THIS. (I ate so many ketchup chips when I was back in Canada for Christmas it was embarrassing. People didn’t buy me presents. They just kept giving me ketchup chips.) I don’t even like poutine but everything else about this just pinged my homesickness so I HAD TO REBLOG IT. Oh god, I want ketchup chips right now. Omnomnomnom. Poutine! See also? What I have to say about London in general. There is one place to get poutine in London. ONE. I would haunt it if I could afford to… Ketchup Chips. Someone that sends me ketchup chips is my hero and worthy of… My eternal love and gratitude. I have tried some substitutes for ketchup chips made here in the states, but they are not the same at all. Ugh. Now I want ketchup chips. Thanks for that Internet.
