The patent allows a communications device (this Google Phone presumably) to switch between cell phone towers and Wi-Fi hotspots seamlessly. My guess is that Google will partner with AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, Clearwire, and any others. Then when you're on your phone, you will always be sending data over the cheapest reliable pipe. (ie, if you're in a moving vehicle, riding shotgun of course, because nobody talks while driving, you could theoretically swap between using AT&T's tower to Verizon's tower, and then when you get home, jump onto your home's Wi-Fi connection. And your conversation wouldn't be interrupted whatsoever. This is awesome for multiple reasons: 1. Everyone with Wi-Fi would have GREAT reception inside their home. 2. Have you used Google Talk for a voice..."
