Here's one of those questions again ;-). I am writing a module for DokuWikis xmlrpc interface. Does it make sense to implenent a cli client in the main() function of the module? - Michael Klier
(Wife, Rickroll &ct). Naja, vielleicht das Debian SSL Debakel... - Jürgen Geuter
apropos debian ssl debakel, ich mag DSA-1571 ja schon deshalb, weil die C64 floppy damals 1571 hiess - igor
What do you mean? You wanna call a method that you just know the name of? - Jürgen Geuter
Something like obj.$method() (where I have the method name in a string) ... I thought tinkering with with getattr() and __call__ might be the right way but I don't get it :-S - Michael Klier
Ok, I am using exec() now, though I guess there's something more elegant ... - Michael Klier
Guess where I am sitting right now ;-). At work, setting up email auto replies. I am so used to have breakfast at work it's kinda hard not to go there... - Michael Klier
I gave up my birthday last year. I no longer have one. True, I do have an arbitary string of numbers that I use to identify myself in various places, but that's nothing to do with birthdays. I'll be giving up Xmas when my kids are a bit older - they were pissed enough with me for giving up my birthday. - Ivan Pope via twhirl
It's an excuse to indulge in cake and alcohol! - Mona N
Well, Loic, the first year where you don't have a birthday might see others gathering to celebrate you in a different way, for one last time. Celebrating a birthday means you made it to the next one! - Louis Gray
Me? I celebrate being alive. Any day will do but I might as well use the one I started on. - Soulhuntre via twhirl
I like the hobbit birthday celebration: give everyone else gifts and throw a big party on your own birthday. 1) you only have to remember one date; 2) it's kind of like saying "Thank you for not killing me this year. See how good a friend I am?" - klecu
hey, if it's an excuse indulge, people will follow. admittedly it seems to hold less meaning once you get past the milestones - I only celebrated my last birthday because it means I can finally vote! - Erin
I'm with you, klecu! I always throw my own birthday party. Even if it's just for me. One of my favorite years was taking myself to Napa/Sonoma for wine, spa day, shopping, stay at a nice hotel, etc. Then I got back to SF and was supposed to work. Instead my bosses kidnapped me and took me to a nail salon they had rented where all my friends were waiting to surprise me. I wept. Openly. :-) After that was dinner at my fave restaurant: Bistro Yoffi. SO GREAT! - Lisa L. Seifert
It's fun when you are young, and then starts to suck more and more ;-) - Dean Terry
Just a ritual. "re"production of the system... - Kemal Yaylali
I disagree, Dean. I think it's strictly a popularity contest when you're young and it's fun when you're older. This year I turn 38 and I'm planning to have my birthday party at the Half Moon Bay airport where their cafe serves THE BEST orange waffles. Biplane rides for everyone!!! :-) A couple of years ago all my grown up friends and their kids went bowling. Pizza for the kids; beer for the grown ups. It was AWESOME! - Lisa L. Seifert
it's a social convention, and because of that it has different meanings for anyone. For me it's just a way to show the time that passed. - Mário Pires
In addition to what Soulhuntre and Michael have said, birthday's are unique to individuals; they're not hallmark holidays and/or shared with tons of others. I think it's nice to celebrate the individual. - Joanmarie
It starts as a day of pride for parents—wow, this tiny thing is becoming an adult—but loses some of that meaning over time. - Vincent van Wylick
I'm in a holding pattern at 39. Personally I don't like to mark another year gone. Getting older, it seems that celebrating a birthday is a reminder of what little time we have. Birthdays get placed in the same realm as Christmas - I celebrate those for my kids and live vicariously through them (meaning I pretend to be a kid again). - Susanne "Renee" Bullo
I liked it when I was 14. Now that I'm 17, I don't like the feeling of getting older... - Yuvi
Yuvi, you better do you know what, before you expire! LOL - Igor The Troll
Surviving another year perhaps? Once upon a time that would have been a great achievement. Nowadays we perhaps take it for granted. - Joanna Geary via twhirl
Lisa: you have the best attitude about life. :) - edythe
i'm never quite sure what to do on my own birthday, but i do like my friends' quite a bit. unfortunately, some of my very favorite people on earth don't like their bdays acknowledged and/or don't like to get gifts...(yes, rap, you. you and maidel.) - edythe
it's an understandable excuse to take care of someone you love. - Eric Sausse via twhirl
birthdays have no meaning at all, just another day, spinning through space - gregory lent
my half bday is around the corner... July 29th - Mona N
My birthday is round the corner too.. - Winston Teo
Loic, I think it is just a great reason to celebrate, nothing more, but with a lot of value. - Kfir Pravda via twhirl
I gave up "birthdays" when I was 21, figuring that was a nice age to stop. I do have an Annual Give Gifts to Cyndy Day, though, to celebrate another year of not dying. I'm perky like that. ;) - Cyndy
Birthday = Celebrating other people getting older ;-) - benedikt
Actually, my wife sometimes have to remind me when my birthday is coming. But I love this particular day, as my own birthday party is in fact my children's party ;-) - Thierry R. Andriamirado
I don't think they're so important. As a result of that I tend to forget everyones birthday (including mine) ... most people don't like that, but sooner or later they get used to it. - Michael Klier
Birthday's are a celebration of life! Remember, there was a time when surviving another year was a big deal. We just take it for granted now. Keep on celebrating your birthday, in big or small ways. Celebrate being alive. Unless you don't like your life... - Rick Weiss
I stopped celebrating my birthday many years ago. Most assume it's because of age but that's not it. It's because I don't like the sense of obligation that it puts on my friends. Also, I'm not comfortable being the center of attention. Well, I am but not that kind of attention. - Akiva Moskovitz
the just do it for the cakes and presents. - Martin Añazco
Birthdays are an excuse for a celebration and life needs it's celebrations! - RAPatton
"to be or not to be and to remember the time to be " that is the question !!! It is in human nature to count everything I think it is reassuring for peoples . We celebrate to be still alive , we should do this every day, minute seconds but it's more easy to count year because of the seasons I think (spring, summer, automn...) . You are about 1 135 296 000 seconds old my dear Loic . are you sorry not to have celebrate your 1 000 000 000 one ? I hope you will soon celebrate your 1 000 000 seesmicer but why don't you celebrate the 816176 one ? . Whatever, i wish you to drink a lot of beer today .....Because it will be "a pee beer day" :-) - lotre demedeu via twhirl

Any particular football teams? Or just football in general? - Patrick Veverka
hmm... perhaps this could be statistically derived based on the data that's available now. - Franklin Naval
