Where the biggest jumps in food stamps have been - http://patchworknation.csmonitor.com/csmstaf...
A note here, in case it isn't obvious: This story originated with data the NY Times gathered and released with their story on food stamps over the weekend. We remixed it so we could see how different community types were affected. - Chris Amico

A few things I’d like to see local news sites publish - http://joethink.com/blog...
Yes, do all of this. Actually, none of it should be that technically daunting or expensive. It's mostly a change in stated goals, from "news" to "resource". - Chris Amico

Let me endorse this with a journalism spin: We do better when we acknowledge what our competitors do well, and do our best to learn from it and share those lessons. Nice to see Jacob giving a nod to Rails. - Chris Amico

Adobe is Bad for Open Government - http://sunlightlabs.com/blog...
Agreed, with one caveat: I'd rather have PDFs than file cabinets. But I think we're mostly past that choice, and it is time to speak up more loudly that PDF and Flash are closed formats that obfuscate data more than they illuminate. Also, note the comments from Ben Welsh and Adrian Holovaty. - Chris Amico

Underscore.js: Our Second Open-Source Release - http://www.documentcloud.org/blog...
I like the way this project is putting out code: Build a tool, release it, see what happens. They're not only getting tools out there faster; they're building isolated tools that can be used independently by completely unrelated projects. Awesome all around. - Chris Amico

Very cool. GovAR (and augmented-reality in general) is still one of those things I'm interested in theory but haven't entirely grasped yet. Interesting as this is, would anyone out there use it? - Chris Amico

60th Anniversary Hangover - http://granitestudio.org/2009...
"For the past 8 years, Hu Jintao has been the good guy maintaining his commitment to some kind of vague “first among equals” system in the CCP high command. It was clear by yesterday’s performance that this was Hu’s “F–k it, I’ve got two years left and this is MY house” moment. Mao suit. Deng limo. “Speaking to you live from the top of Tiananmen, M—–f—–s!” Hu may have taken the Kim Jong-Il puppet from Team America as his fashion role model, but the man did stand out. Especially after he made the rest of the boys dress in polyester business suits and red polka dot ties. Only Zhu Rongji escaped, donning a pair of fashion shades which made him look like the stoner cousin in a wedding photo." This is Jeremiah at his best. Upon reading this, I immediately put the Hangover on my Netflix queue. - Chris Amico
