"The explanation turned out to be that women tended to apply to competitive departments with low rates of admission even among qualified applicants (such as English), while men tended to apply to less-competitive departments with high rates of admission among qualified applicants (such as engineering)." - Clare Dibble via Bookmarklet
this should be used as an example of how to write an article on Wikipedia -- it's clear, concise, has a good use of tables and graphics, and is designed to *explain* something rather than just regurgitate the arcana of it. - Karim

it's a bit long (and nine html pages), but is a pretty balanced look at vegetarianism. I think in the long run, we will be best off reducing our animal product consumption. Maybe eating meat 1-2 times per week, and dairy and eggs 3-4 times a week would be a good balance for health of our bodies and the environment. - Robert Felty
"1) It tastes good 2) It makes you feel good 3) It's a great American tradition 4) It supports the nation's farmers 5) Your parents did it Oh, sorry...those are five reasons to smoke cigarettes. " - Clare Dibble
No Clare, you're talking about drinking crappy beer. - Gabe
@Gabe - crappy beer does not taste good! - Robert Felty
Not to the people who drink it, Rob. I'm sure cigarettes only taste good to smokers, too. - Gabe

"a growing number of people believe the world of service animals has gotten out of control: first it was guide dogs for the blind; now it’s monkeys for quadriplegia and agoraphobia, guide miniature horses, a goat for muscular dystrophy, a parrot for psychosis and any number of animals for anxiety, including cats, ferrets, pigs, at least one iguana and a duck." - Clare Dibble via Bookmarklet

""I used to dream of meeting someone who knew how to have fun and didn't let himself get weighed down by formalities and obligations. But my dreams never had the part where that person doesn't call for a week, then drops by at 3 a.m. with a broken mannequin torso under his arm."" - Robert Felty via Bookmarklet

So are you planning to do one new recipe per week? That seems like a good idea. - Paul Buchheit
I got the recipe from Very Vegetarian by Jannequin Bennett. - Robert Felty
He does seem to be planning on a recipe per week (on average). He just asked me to go through our cookbooks and see what I would like him to try, which makes me like this resolution a lot. - Clare Dibble
@Paul I am planning on an average of one per week. I will probably try to get a bit of a head start at the beginning of the year, so I can slack off later. This is one of my general life strategies. - Robert Felty via IM
