As over-the-top critical as I've been about Twitter, a big hat tip for its incredible usefulness during Gustav and Ike. For many people, it was an essential communication tool -- and a great comfort as the storms closed in.

Agreed. That's partly why many of us were/are critical of Twitter. We have huge expectations and therefore, huge frustrations. The site has so much potential, and realistically, they have already won the microblogging battle, so we want them to be great!

Well, last night Twitter proved its worth to me. There were people without power or regular internet access hitting Twitter on mobile devices, both sharing on-the-spot reports and following well-orchestrated information feeds. Twitter was USEFUL. I'll cook up a nice breakfast of crow sausage tomorrow. :-)
