I guess I'm not the target audience. I didn't get it either.
- Alan Le
I guess it's aimed at Mac users, Lindsey, lol
- Josh Haley
Oh . . . then um. How does this make a Mac user want a PC?
- Lindsey is Fierce!
Crispin/Porter, the agency doing the work is always unconventional (think of that weird Burger King). They get under your skin and hang out in the back of your brain.
- Sprague D
I'm a Mac user and I certainly don't get it. Sure it sticks in your head, but it does NOTHING to tell me why Windows is cool, or why I would want to buy Microsoft products other than that future products may be "moist and delicious".
- Thparqui, totally a fake
Bleh. I love Seinfeld and I love Bill Gates in that awkward, unintentional way of being funny but this was pretty much terrible. Lots of potential that just fell flat.
- Robert DeBord
These are all the sort of comments Microsoft used to make when criticizing Apple marketing: "It's not selling anything!" Actually, it is.
- Chris Baskind
Committed Mac users are not the target of the campaign. The cost to convert a Macbot would be prohibitive. I'm guessing their aim is to blunt churn by redefining the brand.
- Sprague D
I'm gonna sit out the McCain speech -- I already know what he's selling -- and put some thoughts together for my blog. Then you can all come and tell me I'm an idiot. It'll be up soon. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
No, it's not. "Quirky" and "off-beat" are fine. But it's awkward in a way they didn't intend, and just doesn't work. The jokes are safe, flat, and pedestrian even for Seinfeld.
- Dean Terry
I wondered about that at first, Louis. And maybe the subliminal is there. But I think the setup is primarily to juxtapose Seinfeld and the iconic image of Microsoft, Bill Gates. They even cashed in a bit on the old geeky Gates cred with photo on the goofball Clown Club card.
- Chris Baskind
this is clearly the opening act of something larger... i'm going to wait and see how this pans out before passing judgment.
- Chris Hollander
Not bad! I love the Ad company that did this.. They are also behind the Burger King stuff
- Kyle Lacy
I reckon it's fairly good too. The ad's not meant to make sense. Not focussing on the products has got to be the best way for Microsoft to begin to re-engage with people and rebuild their 'position' in the market. They've got a lot of rebuilding to do -- best not name products (and evoke old memories) too early in the play.
- Richard Crocker
Will an ad strategy change the company? Or does it take more? Like a culture change.
- Andrew Warner
An ad campaign won't fix a broken distribution network, or staffing problems, or a host of other things which damage companies. They can help to change attitudes toward companies, and those attitudes may also include those of employees. I don't think the intent of this first spot is so grandiose, however.
