Lately I've been thinking a lot about how, beneath the trappings of "modern" society, beneath the Velcro and the antioxidants and the EVDO cards, we are no farther along than our distant tribal ancestors. All I know is what homophobia feels like, and how well-intended straight people can seem befuddled while they do their best to put the issue in context, then don't get excused by gay people from the table of accountability to go out with their friends to play another game of straight. These situations make me wonder if I get it, or if I'm so pre-occupied with my own perspective that I can't identify with another category of humans.
