The ironic thing is that the media is the primary cause of all this. Reducing politicians statements to sound bites where a few words from a larger speach can be spun one way or another. On the left is Firefox on Windows XP. On the right is Firefox on OS X. Same laptop screen. This is why I feel yucky when I have to work in Windows now. Granted, I don't have ClearType installed on the Windows side. But it doesn't make things THAT much better. IE7 is even worse.

imo, this discussion is of... dubious value. 1.) most folks would prefer the rendering that they're most familiar with- personally, I prefer the vista/ff rendering, and find the osx rendering artificially bold. 2.) the exact clear type (or osx font rendering) settings is hardware dependant. what looks great on your monitor may end up looking crappy when screenshotted and displayed on my monitor, due to things like pixel ordering, DPI, resolution, screen technology, etc.

This, this right here, beautiful text rendering, is the one single reason I'm lusting after OS X. Safari on windows has the OS X style rendering, so it's possible on windows; just that Msoft has adopted clarity over font smoothing. I went from programming full time (a heavy text reading occupation) exclusively on Windows for 8 years to OS X and it was something to get used to... it seemed blurry. But now Windows feels to aliased and clunky to me.

At first I thought the point was showing that based on browser/OS sniffing, the Baker's Dog website WAS charging $4.95 to Windows customers and WAS NOT charging Mac visitors at all! Interstate 10 curves up and out of New Orleans, looping out of the Big Easy and chasing the Gulf Coast towards points east. About thirty minutes outside the city, just after the I-510 interchange, a set of faded blue structures rises on the southern horizon. These are the derelict roller coasters of Six Flags New Orleans, which closed in advance of Hurricane Katrina and has yet to reopen. The park was not so much shut down as abandoned—sacrificed, almost, to the encroaching storm. Merchandise stayed on shelves, electronics remained in place, and the logs in the flume ride were left stuck halfway up their plastic hills. Fruit has been my saviour. I never used to eat breakfast, as food just didn't take my fancy that early in the morning. Now I eat a selection of grapes, melon, watermelon, mandarin, apple etc. Easy to digest, not too filling for an early start, and it really does give you the energy you need! Would be great with yoghurt as Matthew sugested.

Eggs. Sometimes scrambled with all sorts of stuff to eliminate the breakfast feel--made into burrito has the same effect (and pre-made and frozen makes it quick while cheap); sometimes raw stirred into limeade (I've found it best masks the taste and consistency) which makes it really quick, while still really solid. Yogurt is also a big one, just not as frequent.

Okay here's my breakfast of winners: a handful of quick-cook wholegrain oatmeal (uncooked), 2 tbsps of ground flax, a handful of 2 scoops raisin bran, a handful of fresh or frozen blueberries. Add warm milk or microwave for 1:30 - 2:30 mins (depending on if blueberries are frozen and how warm you want your cereal) and - viola! And it actually tastes really good. You won't be hungry until lunch with this breakfast - guaranteed!

My breakfasts: 1) cottage cheese with flax seeds, celery, fiber powder, and corn thins. 2) yogurt with buckwheat groats & an apple. 3) cereal with nuts. 4) oatmeal (lately with peanut butter mixed in), or 5) egg whites with ground chicken breast crumbles and cheese. I can't bear to even think about food before noon but know I need breakfast and have tried oatmeal, cereal, bagels, fruit, and yoghurt. I have found all either too heavy or too sweet. Buy oat groats (whole oat berries) at a healthier grocer, grind them up in a blender till finely powdered, then cook over medium-low heat, with lots of water, for one hour, stirring very regularly (see fairy tale, Bonnie Prince of Scotland, saved from enemy capture by pretending to be the lowly oatmeal stirrer, the lowliest of jobs). BEST OATMEAL EVER, nothing like the wallpaper paste you now associate with the word. Flavor with gomasio (Japanese sesame salt).

Steelcut oatmeal. It generally takes quite a while to cook, but we do it in a slow cooker or rice cooker overnight with a little cinnamon and vanilla. Effortless, and wonderful to wake up to. Berries are nice on top.

I read The Shining when I was 8 or 9 (whenever the movie was released). I was finally allowed to watch the movie when I was 11 or 12. It was the first movie I had ever seen that was adapted from a book I had already read. I was so upset at the minor changes from the book that I think I still hold a grudge.

The Shining will always freak me the hell out because there was a very gruesome murder around the corner from my Aunt's bakery in town when I was a kid living back east. The murderers painted REDRUM in the victim's blood on the walls. I'll never forget seeing the crime tape and later on the crime scene photos once they were released. Anime got nuthin on real life imitation when it comes to this.
