Hope everyone is still checking there uni emails :). just received a important one regarding module choices.
I was walking through Victoria park the other day and my non biological friend asked me "why are those daffodils not all the same colour, is it genetic?" luckily however when i said how's about i wright a 6 page essay with diagrams he decided he wasn't that bothered :) . Don't forget to pick up the bluebells and any other genes work tomorrow though
this can be collected Friday April 1, between 12.00 and 2.00pm, in the teaching laboratory MSB115. - Christopher morton
Ha ha. That sounds like a far more realistic scenario! - Joe Bailey

last week of the semester and although the second half of the time table was much awaited, the extra time hasn't been as productive for me as i imagined. still pondering upon modules for the next two years, seems so hard to decide what parts to do, and which will be most beneficial. The posts on here have helped somewhat though. Have enjoyed the physiology lectures of this semester which is making me think about taking that next year. think some more research is needed, as well as revision for June exams. they may not count the same way, but don't want to get lax in revising when the ones next year count. - Christopher morton
Nots for this weeks #BS1011 are coming up with Apache Tomcat/6.0.18 error again... does this happen to many people? only seems to happen on my room pc, when i least want it to.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer... Really interesting watch along with some of the others that can relate. this one being about evolution. at the start they talk about earthworms, that in only 170 years and managed to evolve to cope in a new environment. Worth a watch :)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer... this one talks about pain receptors, and how a mutation in a single gene can cause a lack in the sensation of pain. linking to #bs1005 - Christopher morton
Don't forget to do turnitin for the #BS1005 essay!

Haven't done one of these in a while as have had so much work on. completed #BS1013 presentation today which i feel could have gone better for me, however am ill so guess i can let myself off. was impressed by the other presentations today and feel i learnt something which is good. dead lines approaching and work loads getting greater still, need to focus on getting the essays started soon. as well as keeping on top of reports for practical. Liked the microbiology quiz yesterday, Howewver wondering what the format of the actual exam will be? hoping it is the multiple choice. completed #Bs1011 for this week and feel its helping with my excel usage, have found the descriptive statistics function very usefull getting my first 100% this semester. However the percentile bit was confusing, as the work sheet didn't say it needed the % as decimal, but was easy enough to work out :) . Target for the week... Keep on top of everything! - Christopher morton
#BS1009 does anyone know if the microbiology quiz on Monday count towards the marks at all?
I don't think so. It's a mock exam, isn't it? - William D.
sorry, think i was being a bit blond tbh, its done by keypads, so don't think they could exactly do it as an exam, in a lecture theater - Christopher morton
lol, definately a novel way of doing an exam! - Adam
Top tip. When printing the "greyscale" vision of the #BS1005 lectures. Still make sure your printer is on greyscale mode. Most printers, even when printing a black and white word document, will still use the colour inks to make the black stand out more. Costing you colour ink, for no reason! :) .
However, on tomorrow's lecture, pictures on (hand out) pages, 9-11 are pretty impossible to see in black and white... - Christopher morton

been a lot to do recently, but feel like at the moment am on top of it all, managed to get next weekend partially off work so i could get some essay done and other work that needs doing. Going to miss the plant side of #BS1013 as was very interested in the biochemistry involved with photosynthesis. practical reports may have taken their sweet time, but was still a nice topic. - Christopher morton
Ahh few, passed januray modules. How well i don't know but a pass is a pass :) . Time to concentrate on report + essay + presentaitions now. Get those marks in for summer exams.

Been a tough few day's with Having a job to go to as well as this practical report to do for #Bs1013. but seem to be staying on top of it all and haven't had a tragedy yet, am taking things step by step breaking down all the work in to manageable pieces. instead of one big row of mountains. would still be on top of the world though if i was waking up in Vegas instead of for door replacement at mary gee and a 9 o'clock tutorial. Ow well gotta be done. Have another #Bs1013 lecture to look forward to though! Really enjoying the mixture of physics into the biology. Need to try and get back more into the swing of lectures, and making sure to print of slides! seem to be there in body but less of mind. Target for the week :) - Christopher morton
Make sure you take regular breaks too :) Got to keep motivated if you've got lots of work to do! - Lyndsey Wright
am rather enjoying the new lectures. However think it would be a good idea if the lecturers followed #CH1070 style and had Page numbers at the bottom of each slide. as finding it hard to link quick notes with slides and additions without printing the slides, which hasn't happened yet...
Ow my god, not liking the excel #Bs1011 haven't done anything like this since Year 9 ict. Help session Monday here i come :)
so confused on the question relating 4.1 :S have entered what excel help say's would be correct but its still coming up #N/A - Christopher morton
I don't see anything about 4.1, do you mean 4.10? - Xanthe Simpson-Gray
I didn't know any of it until I just googled specific functions. Try that? - Aneeka Ul-Haq
Xanthe, I think the questions come from a bank of possible ones so he could have different questions to you. - Rachel Bell
That would make sense! I suggest Shift F3 everything you are unsure about. - Xanthe Simpson-Gray
my mistake, it was 4.10. Thank you all for helping :) - Christopher morton
Hum... just tried to access the notes for this weeks #BS1011 and Received a Apache Tomcat/6.0.18 error. you gotta help me out.
I've had a look and I can see them. My best guess is that Thursday evening tends to be maintenance evening, so you could have run into that. - Dr Alun Salt
Should be working now. - Dr Alan Cann

thought i'd give it a go, glad exams are finally over and have a nice time back home with family. enjoyed today's lectures, especially #BS1009 Have a feeling that will be a very good subject and one to think about for year 2. feels strange being back in the lecture rooms, but looking forward to getting stuck into learning more knowledge. after the exams, brain told me that its definitely a good idea to pay attention to all the lectures and make those notes. as subconscious regurgitation under stress definitely pulled me through the exams, after a difficult Christmas unable to revise much at all.. - Christopher morton
good diary entry Christopher. Realising the importance of the quality of your notes can really help your revision is a good point. Have you looked at the note taking advice on the student development website? http://www2.le.ac.uk/offices... - Dr Jo Badge
not yet but will do now, Thank you :) - Christopher morton

is liking the start to the term, Even with the large gaps that are hard to fill with useful activities. finding the #BS1013 lectures Amazingly interesting as have always loved and wanted to know more about photosynthesis, its just so cool! Have you thanked your green plants today? :) . took part in the SWIFT project yesterday which was interesting and a good way of learning more about labs. However feel it was somewhat incomplete compared to what was 'sold' so hoping there is another part to it. yet still worth doing. - Christopher morton
Has the joy of a #BS1013 9 o clock tutorial tomorrow.... then the afternoon practical However... isn't it a bit pointless as we haven't actually done any of the lectures relating yet??
Nope. Lectures are passive. Tutorials and practicals are active. They complement each other. - Dr Alan Cann
any ideas where to find the new timetable? / when we'll get to see it?
It's on Blackboard, in the School Office folder. - Dr Alan Cann
have seen the individual course provisional ones, but thought there maybe a collaborative one. - Christopher morton
Collaborative? - Dr Alan Cann
Do you mean integrated? You won't be given a personal timetable with just the modules that you are taking on it. You will need to make your own from the information on blackboard. - Roisin Thomas
So is the timetable on blackboard definite now? Or still provisional? - Paul Allen from iPhone
everything should be considered likely but provisional - Dr Chris Willmott
merry Christmas everyone =)
is Very Very Very pleased with his Bs1010 grade :D 92.53% , really wasn't expecting it =D
Well done :-) - Shubnum Razak
just wondering, When will we get our final #BS1010 grade?
when everything has been marked. - Dr Jo Badge
yo chris, fancy helping me with my last #BS1010 question? (please) :p its about mean doublings/hour - Max Levin
@Max - this is an assessment. If there is evidence of you colluding with other students you could be accused of plagiarism. Inappropriate comment. - Dr Alan Cann
apologies - Max Levin
how did everyone find #BS1015 exam today?
Is pleased to say after about 8 weeks my winter lettuce is still alive! even though it will never look like its cousins after the amount of damage caused from the net curtain producing numerous callas production giving it multiple shoots from one original. After all its been through, the (proportional) floods from condensation water, the chang....
changes in temperature, from -8 outside to a baking 28 in my room when the heating was left on. after everything its been through its still here :), unlike Hannah Roberts' rocket, which is now in plant heaven.. three cheers for my little lettuce! :D - Christopher morton
just wondering, how do you know when you can get a book you wanted from the library you've placed a hold on?
You'll get an email telling you when your book will be ready to pick up. - Pritesh Mistry
