"San Francisco is cool with everything from gay marriage to medical marijuana, but it can't handle New York's own Naked Cowboy - who got arrested while singing in his skivvies there Friday."

What he needed to do was run in Bay to Breakers. Then he would have been fine.

My understanding is that, ever since 1976, you've needed to permit to busk in certain parts of SF. Union Square being one of them. Apparently, the Naked Cowboy didn't meet with "the proper authorities" before playing. I got chased from Bart Stations with guitar in hand, back in the '80's.

Burck was given a citation for "violating a posted sign," and is due in a San Francisco court Monday. WTF with the charge

Marriage is more complicated then UR right2use a public park. Marriage is designed4creating relationships 4human reproduction(which*IS*important). When U demand gay marriage UR asking 4the same benefits as people who need government assistance because they have no choice over their functions(in the same respect U can't help being gay) Children R expensive. Please take sympathy on straight people. I don't hate U!

nice post. though I dont totally agree. I am a video editor and my pay is on the upswing. My clients are encouraging me to charge more as I complete jobs. Good work, with quality, efficiency, creativity and skill is rewarded. Quality and experience still pull the buck. Yes, technology (both for production AND distribution) affords a greater diversity of video talent and product(WONDERFUL) - but the market just gets bigger.

"So what should we do about it? Well first, we need to be careful with valuations. If financial assets are going to be subject to downward pressure then inflated valuations will not be sustainable." -Fred Wilson. Since you're absolutely right, and valuations already seem to be absurdly inflated in the tech sector, my question is how can "we" (or rather you, the VC's) do that without collusion?

I thought the article was overall pretty positive.

Staying connected is not a waste of time. Is it a waste of to meet a connection/friend for coffee. That might take 30-60 minutes. That time spread across a hyper efficient connectivity system might provide many more opportunities to stay in touch sustained over a longer period of time to more people. If you gave up one face to face networking effort per week (assuming you do more then one) and used one of the many tools out there to connect with many rather then one person then you would be better off.

Nice article, have great respect for @jowyang but disagree to twitter's limited userbase.

It took me months after signing up for Twitter to realize the potential of the tool, so my first impressions were no better or more informed than the reporter and some of the Twitter naysayers quoted in the article. But at some point I saw the light and realized the value of microblogging. I am not sure that Twitter will always be the tool of choice to do this kind of communication, but it is surely the tool of right now. As long as the service is actually working, that is...

It's interesting how the overall tone of the article was positive but the headline was affirmatively negative -- perhaps because Patrick May doesn't quite entirely "get" what Twitter is about (?)

I have had major business connections via twitter. The communication happened at lightning speed compared to real world. Connectivity and immediacy.

That's cool. He's following me on Twitter. When you sign up to FF it gives you pages of people who have large no's of followers so it makes it easier to get started I supposed.
