It is so telling - I posted this on Instagr.am, it got reposted on Twitter... and the only people who managed to comment on it (albeit with "likes") was here! FriendFeed is still so not dead, is it? I need to get back to my FF page!
- Ciaoenrico
"Fair enough - I've never heard "custom" used like that before, as it really looked like she was hoping for more "customers." If that's correct, so be it - there are two errors that need to be looked at. And like everyone else, no, I have nothing else better to do. Thank all of you for taking time out of your busy schedules to reply back."
- Ciaoenrico
"There are a couple of spelling errors in this. “It's been an absolutely nightmare,” she said. (should be "absolute," unless this is what she actually said.) " hope to gain new custom out of the deal" (should be "customers.") "to inform potential customers that the deal in no longer available." (should be "the deal IS no longer available.")"

Yes, there is a five-year deadline for renewal after a passport expires.
- John (bird whisperer)
What happens if you miss the deadline? You're stuck in the US for the rest of your life? :-P
- Eivind
You have to apply from scratch again. More paperwork.
- Spidra Webster
Ach so. I'm not sure how that works in Norway. I've never let a passport run out as I need it quite frequently :)
- Eivind
Renewals can be done by mail (with just the application form, a new photo, and the old passport book). After the renewal period ends, you have to submit all the identifying documents again (and possibly submit in person at an office that handles applications).
- John (bird whisperer)
I think that's something Europeans don't understand about Americans. You're used to hopping around to other countries frequently (and how I envy you for it!). The US is *huge*. And not everyone here has the $ to travel abroad. So unless people live near the border or they have enough $ to travel abroad, many Americans don't have a current passport. It's not always parochialism or...
- Spidra Webster
For me, too. If I had had the $, I would have gone to Europe every year since going to college. Hell, I would have moved there by now.
- Spidra Webster
I realize that, Spidra. In theory I should be able to travel most of Europe without a passport these days, but for some reason the airlines are still insisting on seeing my passport. If I go by train, I can manage without within Schengen. When I was younger, though, I couldn't go anywhere without one. We just have more borders than you guys, and I'm no fan of those :)
- Eivind
Just called passport office to confirm we don't have deadlines, and thankfully we don't. However, what is interesting is that when a British citizen applies for his/her 1st passport now, they have to be interviewed for ~30mins in person and asked all sorts of questions, before they'll issue you with one. I guess this is to crack down on ID theft and bogus applications.
- Halil
Identity things are crazy in the UK. It took me months just to get added to my husband's bank account.
- Jaclyn Bedoya
Eivind I need a passport just to fly from London to Newcastle, let alone anywhere else in Europe! Jaclyn I agree ID regs in the UK have got worse in the last few years especially with banks.
- Meginfo
It's not quite so bad here, I can fly inland without a passport, Meg. The UK is outside Schengen, so when I go there I have to go through an extra gate to get outside the 'Schengen area' of the airport :)
- Eivind
why is called a green card ? when its blue ? Oh "Schengen Area" visa is great.. get one and travel most of EU hassle free !! Woot Woot UK needs ta 30Min interview for 1st time applicates ?
- Peter Dawson
This isn't a green card, though. ... Halil, first-time applicants need to apply in-person here, but I'm not sure if there is an interview. Here are the requirements: http://travel.state.gov/passpor...
- John (bird whisperer)
Yeah, I don't trust Google's translations. I figured the first word was probably supposed to be "beautiful," but I couldn't figure out the second.
- John (bird whisperer)
As far as a US citizen not typically having a passport, it's useful toremember that until we entered the post-9-11 world no passport was required to cross borders with our adjacent neighbors. I drove into Canada often when living in Seattle, and never took my passport with me. Now, even though it's still fairly close by, I never go up there.
- Mark J Colonel Colonic
Mark makes a good point about passport. Most countries other than Canada and Mexico take a greater investments of time and money to reach, too.
- John (bird whisperer)
I did the same thing and got it last week! No plans to travel, but wanted to have it on hand.
- Ciaoenrico
"Exactly - and temporary. I guarantee you that Bieber kid's going to end up on whatever incarnation of "Celebrity Rehab" is on the air in 15 years. That'll be about the time teenagers ask their parents, "Twi-what?" In the meantime, I think G+ will continue its slow build."
- Ciaoenrico
"But I think we all knew that massive bump in traffic at the beginning was temporary. Nothing gets that level of activity and sustains it, certainly not something that isn't even finished yet."

I'm just cranky...this isn't directed towards anyone as it is the spectrum of tech news and their methods of getting hits, I guess.

Geekfights might be boring and silly. Since I'm a geek, I'm not sure. I do know, however, that debates can be educational for both sides; when people start comparing features, it's hard not to learn what features are available.

Educational is fine. When people start tearing their hair out cause X HAD THIS FEATURE FIRST. Y ISN'T OPEN AND OPEN IS BETTER I get bored and go look for something to eat.
- Derrick
"Aw! Look how cute you are, getting all worked up over a TV show! I did, in fact, watch all three episodes that aired. The first one had so many balls in the air, I didn't learn enough about any character to care about them. But by all means continue to talk smack with strangers on comment boards, and I wish you luck with your adolescence."
- Ciaoenrico
"Err... no, it wasn't moral outrage that killed the show. It was bad writing. Normal people don't protest entertainment, they simply watch if it is good, and don't if it isn't."
- Ciaoenrico
"It's telling that Reddit isn't one of the options available to republish this post. Sure, it shows up in the blanket "Share" link - but next to garbage like Plaxo and Orkut for God's sake."
- Ciaoenrico
Already on my list. :-) What do you think of it? I'm really liking it.
- Kol Tregaskes
Seems exactly like Facebook. Not terribly exciting.
- Vezquex
The big difference between Facebook and Google+ (that I can see from a very quick look) is that you can share to certain groups of friends instead of ALL of them. And that you can create many groups. The Sparks feature looks very interesting and I really do like the UI.
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol, sharing with specific groups of friends possible with Facebook. You can list your friends and then hide a post from lists or show it only to those lists.
- batuhan icoz
Sounds long-winded? Either way I prefer Google+ over Facebook (a lot more) but I'm not sure it's as good as FriendFeed. Saying that I think it's only time I'll move to Google+. Like I say a lot on here, it's all down to the people and I see a LOT of FriendFeeders over there there already. The features are important too (though secondary) and I hear the Google dev team are adding new things all the time.
- Kol Tregaskes
I don't have one yet. I'm lost at the trailing edge of technology.
- Nick B.
You've been able to create groups of Facebook friends to selectively share for a while. They just don't make it intuitive to use. (edit - I see Batuhan already said this). It's under Friends -> Create a list.
- Nick B.
obviously this has been posted for its artistic merits and not in the least because it's an amusing and titillating (hehe) story about breasts.
- Winckel
At some point they all blend together in a comic geek's estrogen filled spandex fitting, weapon slinging, lusty, superheroine image... and I like that.
- NotdaBOTTurlokin4
Any modern movie with a woman action hero (not dressed as Wonder Woman) will look like Ultriviolet, or Aeon Flux, because comic artists love women in black latex. Frankly I don't care, as long as the script is good. People forget the stories are why the new Batman films work - not the spectacle.
- Ciaoenrico
Kurt (who posted this) actually likes Ultraviolet a LOT, so his linking it with Dark Knight Rises isn't an insult, just an observation.
- Jandy
LMAO, I thought that whole event was some funny shit. Ok, you have to pay more but it will be around indefinitely, or you know you can enjoy it for another few years and then you can never use it after that because the business is gone. Oh, and it might get less expensive in the future.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Seriously, Friendfeed - can someone get back to me on why my Tweets won't show up on my FF page? Please? Pretty please!?! I've been sending you requests for help for months now!
And frankly, I like adding friends with whom I have a low compatibility. It helps me hear music I never would have found in the first place. I never would have listened to a lot of my favorite music if someone hadn't said, "just try it."
- Ciaoenrico
Heh, "Music you have in common includes ABBA and Depeche Mode"...
- Tyson Key
Your musical compatibility with koltregaskes is Very Low. Music you have in common includes Sneaker Pimps, Hybrid, Snake River Conspiracy, VAST and The Boxer Rebellion. (that's because I listen to a lot of obscure stuff) http://www.last.fm/user/app103
- April
http://www.last.fm/listen... BTW, I send my Blip.FM feed to Last.FM. I fell asleep several times while listening to Blip, so there's some music in there that I don't necessarily like. But, for the most part, it's mine.
- Michael Fidler
If I played my 'best of the best' playlist one day would anyone be interested? It's 45 songs and iTunes tells me it's 4 hours. I can post a FF message when I start and finish and you can check the tunes out.
- Kol Tregaskes
Welp. Ya'll have been friended and oddly enough I only had 4 with high compatibility. Lucky for me that means there is a lot more music our there that I need to be turned on to. Thanks, Kol! :-)
