Perhaps I've straying too much on Tumblr lately. My mind went where it shouldn'ta. (Also, I don't know if that's the proper idiomatic spelling of "shouldn'ta" as a contracted version of "shouldn't of" which is a incorrect idiomatic usage for "shouldn't have"... but I digress.)
- Jkram|ɯɐɹʞſ
Yes ma'am, it certainly does. It continues to do so on into at least the 18th year of life, though you have to pick bigger spaces on which to nap. I remember when he just laid on my chest while I laid on the couch. That's just no longer possible. Enjoy it while you've got it!!
- WebGoddess
A wise choice. I always used to get a kind of contact-high sleepiness just from laying down next to him, even after we stopped nursing. Always wondered what that was.
- Laura Norvig
Just reading the Movers & Shakers and this jumped out at me: "Lauren Britton is 'transforming the role of public libraries and inspiring a generation of librarians,' says nominator Joe Murphy. 'She also has a nice shirt.'" Thought that was a little odd.
Now I want to see the opening paragraph for Julia Childs' obituary. If you're going to start any woman's obituary talking about her cooking skills, that's the one that would make the most sense. :P

RT @hell_homer: breaking: there's been a major password data breach for affecting everyone named Kenny. that's right, Kenny log-ins are in the danger zone
If I thought of GReader as a "newsreader," I might very well agree with that post. But I don't: For me, it's a blog reader--I get news other ways (including, ahem, the daily paper, even if no longer in print). I'm loathe to give that up. And there's no way on Earth or elsewhere that I'm checking 918 places once a day. Not gonna happen.

I just had a thought. I have brownie mix. I have nutella. I have cream cheese icing in a can. I can make nutella brownies with cream cheese icing. Screw being alone (if only by circumstance and not because I'm not actually in a relationship) on V-Day. I'm going to make, and eat, those brownies tomorrow night. And I'm going to LOVE THEM.
I tossed it up on my Facebook after our Hillview Urban Ag Center FBed it https://www.facebook.com/home.... People are sharing like crazy..cuz it's cool!
- Marge LW
Plus I am encouraging the staff movers and shakers to John-Cotton-Dana it next year. It is going to be amazing on every level - concept, collaboration, sustainability and libraries. Pole dancing and butchering will pal.
- Marge LW
how cool! we're doing an episode of NCompass Live next month about setting up a seed saving program at a Nebraska library: http://nlc.nebraska.gov/scripts...
- Christa
Semi-serious question: has Monsanto really not tried to police/prevent these groups?
- Meg V. Meg
If they're not circulating patented seeds, it shouldn't be an issue, but I'd be interested in how the intake process works.
- Rachel Walden
the library in Nebraska is partnered with the Seed Savers Exchange, who works with heirloom seeds. so maybe not competition for Monsanto?
- Christa
seed library - is this part of your serials collection?
- maʀtha
Yeah, I was wondering if/how they have to prove that the seeds are what they say they are.
- Meg V. Meg
do they bear tiny call #s? or acquisition #s? I know people inscribe things on grains of rice
- maʀtha
Years ago, when I got my serials acquisitions job, my friend Mark thought this is what I did, for realz - acquire seeds and grains for a library collection.
- maʀtha
you guys. our new library website went live this week. along with it is a public Minecraft server. the guys in the IT dept got a hold of the plans for our main library AND BUILT IT. they are still working on getting the inside done. geekery at its finest, folks.
I just emailed the admin to request access for my kid to the server. Gee, I really hope they whitelist his name for it.
- Yo. Shark Dog.
Kid stopped for a visit. We did snap some pics to prove he was there. Will upload them later. He wondered what is the deal with he door at the top....
- Yo. Shark Dog.
The two kids books I looked at only come in kid sizes. Why?
- Betsy #TeamMonique
Betsy, I found that some of the shop-by-title links linked only to the kids' size, but when I looked under "unisex/mens"... there that same shirt was! of course, maybe you already tried that...
- Marianne
Ah no. I only looked by title and didn't bother looking any further. Thanks.
- Betsy #TeamMonique
Huh. I looked at this again today (for an assignment), and they'd fixed some book-by-title pages that weren't fixed last week - either a vast coincidence, or they are super on top of social media scanning. :D

This Is Why We Can't Have Nyce Things #1 is live!!!! We Need an Old Priest and A Young Priest: learn more about us, our favorite horror films, the films that scared and scarred us, and why Mary Carmen hates DisneyWorld! http://media6.podbean.com/pb...
lol...please give us honest feedback. it's the only way we will improve.
- Mary Carmen
Will do. (And why aren't we hanging out more????) I have questions. Can I subscribe to this? Like in the podcast app or whathaveyou?
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Stephen, if you use itunes, this might work itpc://nycethings.podbean.com/feed/ or you could just do http://nycethings.podbean.com/feed... (I've never used podbean before so this might take a couple of tries).
- Scott. Cat Herder.
If you drop the itpc link in a browser it should try to open itunes.
- Scott. Cat Herder.
Hmm, itpc://nycethings.podbean.com/feed/ doesn't do anything in Chrome (just does a google search).
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Yeah, that was such a game changer. (And my kids just won't understand.)
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
I like your summary of the movies you discussed in the blog post (http://nycethings.com/we-need...) but I want to see some kind of rating system where you each give a score of 1-5 chainsaws or something.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
Good suggestion. We will have to think of something clever to call it....Nyce something something...
- Mary Carmen
I wouldn't object to buying a house where a murder happened. I did a quick search -- in Florida, there's this statute: http://flsenate.gov/laws... -- so they don't have to disclose there at least. I bet it varies state by state.
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
I totally missed it, where did you discuss why MC hates DisneyWorld?
- Stephen Mack #TeamMomo
because Nightmare on Elm Street ruined it for me.
- Mary Carmen
I can't wait to hear your feedback, Jason.
- Mary Carmen
Watched Apartment 143 thanks to your recommendation. Good flick. Had no idea it was made in Madrid until the credits. Freaked me out that the doctor was Danny from Caddyshack.

I don't like scary movies but I like the Nyces. Can I listen and not be scared? Plots of scary movies often interest me, but the being scared part does not.
- Royce's favorite Anna
I'm not a horror fan, but I enjoyed the show nonetheless :-)
- Heleninstitches
Good episode. You'll get your rhythm once you get a few shows in. The first few episodes of Random Time Lords were ***very*** rough, but once you get going, it's easy. Small caveat: don't be afraid to get in close to the microphone. It will make editing easier.
- Steven Perez
Brilliant! And now I'm completely distracted from my homework. :) <3
- Hookuh Tinypants
It was great! I kept wanting to talk back to you.

Made this today for lunches or dinners this week - it's really good. I wish I'd used a bit more cayenne for heat, since it's not quite spicy enough for me, but it's still very good.

Ooh, yeah - I also used 2 cans of black beans instead of just one, since I'm a major fan of black beans. :)
- ellbeecee
made this again yesterday because it's so easy to use for dinners/lunches in various ways (tonight I'm using it for quesadillas and leaving out the rice). I also used my usual salsa brand (Herdez Salsa Casera, medium) instead of the one from last time that was good, but this is better - has more kick to it :)
- ellbeecee
Just assembled it all in crock. Except I subbed one can of black lentils in place of a second can of black beans. And my jar of salsa is Mrs Renfros Ghost Peppers!!

I made this yesterday for dinner tonight. It smells so good, I can't wait to eat it later.
- Mary Carmen
dang it, you guys keep talking about this so now i am craving it.
- holly #ravingfangirl
put this in the slow cooker this morning - I had everything in my freezer/cabinets, which is good because we're at the point in the month where there's more month left than paycheck, and this should easily get me to Thursday for lunches/dinners.

"A little like a Mexican sloppy Joe, this juicy shredded beef is best sandwiched in crusty French rolls and topped with cabbage, red onion, sliced tomato, cilantro, and sour cream. Prep and Cook Time: about 30 minutes, plus 8 to 10 hours in the slow-cooker. Notes: Chipotle sauce, made by San Marcos, Knorr, and other brands, can be found at Whole Foods and Mexican markets or on MexGrocer.com. Save extra sauce from recipe to top Mexican rice or cooked pinto beans."

Also, man, I wish my family did not place such emphasis on the TIME you were born. Because all day today I'm going to be looking at the clock and thinking, "Nope, I was still in labor."

If you get the job, I'll buy you a pair of long undies :)
- maʀtha
We will also be posting a Public Services Supervisor position this spring
- maʀtha
special note: martha has a 9 month contract. 9 month contracts!
- RudĩϐЯaЯïan
I want a 9 month contract, but not for less pay!
- kaijsa
it would take more than a pair of long undies to get me to move there. Also, I fail to see how 9 month contracts are a positive aspect of the situation.
- DJF
It is 9 months for full pay. Summer duty days, if available, are extra $
- maʀtha
the posting includes a link to the faculty contract
- maʀtha
Yes. full pay. summers off. I am always so jealous of Martha's summers! (although I might take them as winters off?)

Slow Cooker Split Pea Soup Recipe | Made this recipe tonight. It came out AWESOME!!! I'm very pleased!! Two notes, it did seem to need the full 10 hours to cook and also, I did strain some of the fat/water off the top at the end before mixing it all together. - http://cullyskitchen.com/slow-co...
made this tonight. yummy! but mine didn't take as long as it said at all. i checked it at 7 hours and it was done. probably was done earlier, but i didn't think of checking it. i used a ham steak, and chicken broth instead of water, so didn't add any salt.
- Christa
Christa, I do wish more slow cookers had similar temps. Low on one can be medium on another and so on. My old slow cooker I often felt that Low was really too high, it would often hit a rolling boil, which is not what low should do. When I researched my current slow cooker, I was looking for one where the low setting was rated as actually low. I'm pretty happy with it, but I should likely start making notes that my cooker might take longer than others. Sorry about that. :)
