I'm sensing a gradual, cultural shift, just in these comments here. I would guess it depend on where you live, and the type of work the couples do. Hell, here in Northern NV, most of the couples you find here are the ones where the man still makes more than the women. Back in the BA, I also knew many of the same types of couples that Mona has.
