"English pronunciation can be divided into two main accent groups: A rhotic (pronounced /ˈroʊtɨk/) speaker pronounces the letter R in hard and water. A non-rhotic speaker does not pronounce it in hard, and may not in water, or may only pronounce it in water if the following word begins with a vowel."

I use the R loads more than most people, meaning I get called posh a lot. I'm not, I just pronounce my words properly. I speak the Queens English don't you know.
- Toby Graham
Toby: Really? R in the rhotic sense? The Queen's English (Received Pronunciation) is non-rhotic. In England I think it's usually the case that the more someone pronounces the _written_ letter R, the less posh they sound. For example, the rural and farming West Country accents tend to be full of pronounced Rs, whereas the typical posh English way of saying the written letter R in...

I have to get these for the dining hall. The students will love these. Not sure our associates will like all the cleaning up afterwards they will have to do though :)

From the description: "It's brand new and never been opened. My boss bought it right before I moved the whole company over to Google Apps."
- Keith Coleman
Here's what you get when you move to the Google Apps cloud! ¶ * Lengthy downtimes when your internet connection breaks down or Google's server has a bug. ¶ * The restriction to use RATHER SMALL FILES ONLY (but saved on THEIR computer)! ¶ * The thrill of wondering whether the government recently "backed up" your data to check up on you. ¶ As a bonus, your software may be removed any time that Google decides to end the service!
- Philipp Lenssen
Philipp, that's pretty silly. Google supports offline access and storage for Gmail (with Docs presumably coming soon, or is it out already?) and you could always use your beloved Outlook with Gmail. I'm pretty sure it's more likely that you're going to lose or trash your own computer than Google's going to discontinue the service without notice, but you can keep it both places, just to...

Kevin, you were thinking of Gmail, but I was thinking of Google Docs (the eBay description I satirized was a take on cloud computing vs desktop computing and did not specifically refer to email or the Outlook product sold -- it referred to "Google Apps"). In Google Docs, I was indeed hitting file limits when preparing a book recently (Google helped out though). As far as Google ending...

google notebook's still there, just not the toolbar version for firefox, but i always used a bookmarklet anyway. google pages going away will be annoying though, i liked using it to try random bits of html/css stuff & although i can use opera unite for most of the same stuff now it does require my laptop to stay on+online
- immaterial
Kevin, yes, GDocs is offline. It's a godsend.
- Brad McCrorey
Unfortunately the address book is super-slow and often hangs. I think I have too many contacts. Is there some way to have it not import my whole gmail address book?
- Paul Buchheit
Hi Paul. I saw you with an iphone in our of your previous pictures. What made you switch?
- Edwin Khodabakchian
My iPhone is broken 50% of the time. It just gives "no signal". I was curious to try the Android anyway, since I'm getting very annoyed by the iPhone bugs. So far, it seems decent, though the ui feels kind of random at times, and also the address book hanging is an issue.
- Paul Buchheit
wow 50% percent is obviously a "FAIL". I have 5 bars on my iPhone with great signal, but am seeing more and more dropped calls! grrrr!
- Susan Beebe
Paul - for video, download voice recorder/video camera. but the whole thin is a little unstable :(
- xavier vespa
You can choose a specific group to display or which groups of contacts to sync. Hit menu in contacts. You can set up contact groups on gmail.
- Larry Greenfield
Also, you should use Larry's PhoneSpell app. Does the iPhone camera not have autofocus? Actually, I was boggled the first time I heard that cameraphones often have autofocus now. The mechanism is something like a spring and a little magnet. It's designed so it only consumes power when focus is non infinite.
- ⓞnor
Many a time, I have struggled with the iPhone camera
- Bindu Reddy
Wow; that's a really clear shot. Now I want a G1
- Benjamin Golub
The Blackberry Bold's photos turn out clearer IMO. I have taken some excellent shots with mine.
- Nation Hahn
Hi Paul, how many are "too many contacts"? And did the cupcake update change that behaviour?
- David Schmidt
The G1 has a surprisingly good camera, and yeah, I love that it can take macros clear enough for OCRing.
- Fa La La La Lindsay
@Paul - adding on to Ryo's answer, you can also mark contacts as "Starred" and they show up on the special tab in your contact list on the phone. And there is also an option under the menu where you select which group to show that lets you show only "Contacts with phone numbers" which comes in handy.

"Mr. Yam's proposal includes everything from financial analyses (he suggests a series of methods to fund the multi-trillion-dollar project) to food supply (hydroponic farms and meat grown in tubes) to the critical matter of how to get the massive structure into space." I love this quote from the article: "'Dude, you won a space station contest!' one girl said.'That's huge!' 'Space colony,' Mr. Yam corrected."

And you left out one of the coolest parts: "By this year, it had grown to 92 pages, filled with detailed drawings done in Google SketchUp, a program he downloaded from the Internet."

That's awesome. I love seeing kids excited about science & technology. I wish there's more science competitions for the younger kids (pre-high schoolers). US First and Lego robotics have been a great start for kids.

never had peete's. then again, i'm not a big coffee drinker.
- Cee Bee
I'm not too picky. Actually, I like chilled coffee with no sugar and they tend to taste really bad. but I like 'em.
- Mike Reynolds
they love their dunkin donuts CAWFEE out here in NY. Peets is the best, I agree.
- grant fox
I grew up on Peets. So I'm part of the choir you are preaching to, here.
- Helen Sventitsky
Actually Antibassi is the best coffee http://www.attibassi.it/ and comes from Bologna. Very smooth and rich with nice bouquet. Peet's is strong but not that smooth. A little too commercial. I also like the coffee at Dunkin Donuts with lots of cream and sugar.
- Beti Cung
there are different roasts of Peets, not sure what you tried Beti.
- grant fox
Beti's probably talking about french roast. That's usually what I buy. Beti, when are you eating Dunkin Donuts?
- Cristo
Love Peets. Sulawesi-Kalosi, Major D., even the Arabian Mocha Java are excellent.
- AJ Kohn
Peet's is pretty much on the same level as Starbucks, IMO. There is a Peet's and a Starbuck's right next to the Google Seattle office and we take a longer walk to go to local coffee shops serving locally roasted coffee (Canal Street serving stumptown -- http://www.stumptowncoffee.com/)
- Joe Beda ()
Joe, I agree local shops are often much better. But, Peet's and Starbuck's don't taste anything alike to me. Starbuck's always feels like something is missing. Peet's can be occasionally too strong for me, and some people complain it's a little burnt, but it's always real.
- Cristo
It would be French Roast from Peet's, Grant. For Joe Beda, there is a pastry shop in Kirkland and Bellevue called French Bakery that has great coffee, they roast Antibassi and I buy 3 bags of the beans everytime I get to the Seattle area.
- Beti Cung
I'm a big Antibassi fan also. It is served at Tutta Bella. I love the Affogato -- a double espresso over vanilla gelato.
- Joe Beda ()
Affogato sounds yummy. I have never tried that but I can't see how that could go wrong.
- Beti Cung
Woah. I love the "extreme parallel parking" and the driving on two wheels parts the most.
- Clay B.
Crazy!! The parallel parking scenes are so cool! I also can't believe the one guy can drive and change a tire at the same time! (skip to 1:50)

"Spearheaded by the Group Special Mobile Association (GSMA), the initiative involves 17 mobile companies, including Nokia, LG and AT&T committed to implementing Micro USB on all their cellphones by Jan. 1, 2012. Once adopted, the standard would allow any phone to be charged with a standard USB cable, which could draw its power from a PC, laptop, or USB power adapter."

On another note, one day my BF and I found out that my phone's charger could charge his phone, but not the other way around- his phone's charger slot was larger than mine. The phones were made by different companies, and we had different carriers. So we took to sharing my charger.

Hnh, and yet Apple doesn't want to be involved? Surprising.

"You know you’ve always wanted to do this…but you never did. One package of Double Stuf Oreos has thirty-six cookies. Each cookie is “double stuffed” which means there is enough of the good stuff in there for seventy-two Oreo cookies. So what would you call it if you stacked all that gooey goodness into ONE MASSIVE COOKIE? According to http://home.comcast.net/~igpl..., the answer is a Duoseptuagenuple Stuf Oreo."
