New Yelp iPhone app is also out. There's a cool easter egg (Augmented Reality feature). Here's how to do it:
Download the new Yelp app (came out yesterday). So you shake your iPhone 3 times. That activates a feature called Monocle. A message should come up if you activated it. A blue box will come up saying "the Monocle has been activated." It will create a button in the top right corner. Now you should be able to look at the bars, restaurants, etc. Only works on iPhone 3GS. - Robert Scoble
waiting Robert.... :) - Sampad Swain
You point it at businesses, or down the city block. I'll try it right now. - Robert Scoble
Yep! Works. Took a few tries to get it to activate. Some of the places it shows me have been closed for ages though, guess I need to update Yelp for the area. - Otto
That sounds so cool. Would love to see a video demo of it Robert! - Alex Calic
I wonder why it's an easter egg. That sounds great. - Daniel Ha
I just did it. Very cool. I hear this feature was added for me. I really love it! - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Daniel: probably to get it through the iPhone store approval process faster. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Raises the question of whether they would have rejected it if they'd known about it. Or did Yelp tell the reviewers about it? - Jan Dawson
Very, very cool! Just tried it out. There's not a lot on Yelp near by work (kind of an industrial area), but I did get it to find the nearest restaurant. So cool! :-) - Josh Bancroft
as long as Yelp allows iPhone users to rate on the fly.. previously had to sync first (not smart) - Sam Levin

Nice idea but in my case the locations seem to be about 180 degrees off - i.e. showing behind me instead of in front - but may be down to a fuzzy GPS location or something - will have to keep trying - Jan Dawson
I wonder why it was "secret", ... undocumented API usage or just to create marketing buzz ? - Kooleido

Stephen shake in long and hard strokes. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
I hate that the iPhone 3G can handle all this new stuff, but Apple insists that you need the 3Gs. Qik on the jailbroken 3G has been awesome! - Elijah Nicolas
@Elijah Nicolas The 3Gs is for the built in compass that is required for augmented reality to work. - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
lol if it was added for you Robert it would show the cutest girls in the area instead - Sherry Reynolds
Didn't I hear that Apple had an embargo on AR apps til next month? - Brian O'Connell
Very cool, thanks for the info. It appears you have to be logged into Yelp though the app before the monocle option will appear. - Patrick Looney

1st sentence typo in your post Marshall ;o) - Alex Calic
Couldn't get it to work by "shaking it" but I got it to work by moving my iPhone up and down 3 times in a vertical motion. Pretty damn cool. - Doug Rice
Marshall, how do you get that camera view? I can't seem to get mine to work. I've shaken and shaken - Stephen Pickering
Well, thats slightly cool. - Sean Oliver
Stephen, you should probably just keep shaking. In publish, with lots of people around. :) No, I don't know. I don't have a 3Gs so I don't have a compass so I don't have the Yelp AR. - Marshall Kirkpatrick

Downloading now. I am absolutely fascinated by the idea of augmented reality! - Victoria Harres Akers
This is pretty cool but the shake 3 times thing doesn't work too well - Jason Wehmhoener from iPhone
This is fantastic, just activated Monocle. For those having trouble, its best to move/raise and lower the iPhone 3 times vertically instead of just shaking it. I was shaking mine like a madman until I tried the vertical move. - Bryan

Wow, I'll have to say this is phenomenal. Wish I'd had this on my trip to D.C. a couple weeks ago. Yelp just made an incredibly useful app even more useful. I've seen a lot of developers working on this technology lately but it looks like they beat everyone to the punch. - Mike Elliott

I just got the yelp AR to work, and I am staying tonight in a hotel, so I went to my window, and held the camera to the window and it was able to show me reviews of the businesses right across the street from me! I am in love with yelp all over again! - Colide81 (James)
Can't get it to work! Shook long and hard! - Islandwoo from iPhone

"Michael Bergt was born in a small Nebraska farming community. At the age of five, he decided he wanted to be an artist. When he was eight years old, his family moved to Denver. At nineteen, Michael became friends with a group of artists, Beat poets and late-night coffee drinkers in lower downtown Denver. Dividing his time between college, odd jobs and painting, his fellow artists encouraged him to "just paint."" - Kimber Scott from Bookmarklet

The Friendfeedization Of Facebook - http://www.techcrunch.com/2008...
The Friendfeedization Of Facebook
"As Facebook continues to roll out the full version of its new user profiles, it’s becoming clear that their primary goal isn’t, as they said in May, to simply create a cleaner user experience and allow developers to have more meaningful engagement points with users. It’s more about highlighting new content relevant to the user and fostering conversations about that content. And the result is that the Facebook home page looks an awful lot like the exponentially smaller activity stream aggregation service called Friendfeed." - Louis Gray from Bookmarklet
there is ONE thing Facebook cannot replicate from Friendfeed. Speed of execution. FriendFeed will always be better and will always be one step ahead - Ouriel Ohayon
facebook who? - Fred Grott
That would be the site with 60m monthly visitors Fred. - Jamie
Coming from the other side, I’d like to see the Facebookization of Friendfeed (without sucking that is). FF is a great place for content and discussion, but not so much for community and social networking. - Hao Chen
Facebook's largely self-contained, immersive "social" and "fun" walled garden works especially well for interpersonal relations, and the upcoming facelift improves on those same principles. I'm impressed. That said, it's too heavyweight for active group conversations. FF has far and away the most effective implementation of group discussions, especially around "the rest of the web". It's great to have both FB and FF, each optimized around their use cases. - Amir Gharaat
The only thing I'm sure of is that Facebook will be unable to recommend the same 9 persons to add as friends to everyone - so hopefully we will still be able to choose exactly who we want to talk to. - Svetlana Gladkova
Friendfeed = open; facebook = closed; this would be an area i'd be happy to see facebook copy - Alex Gawley
Facebook is boring as hell. - Thomas Hawk
@Thomas, LOL... I always crack up when I see, in any FB thread your "Facebook is boring". - Juan Pablo González
Friendfeed lays it all out as a stream of posts and comments. It's like reading a newspaper. Just my style. - david
Facebook has lost its mojo really fast, I winder if the same will happen to FriendFeed - João Almeida from twhirl
@Joao lost its mojo with who? The twittersphere? Facebook was doing just fine before and after they jumped on and off the bandwagon. According to FB, UUs and engagement are up every month. - Jamie
Almeida: yeah, Facebook is growing as fast as ever and tons of "normal people" swear by it. Just because us early-adopter-inside-the-techie-bubble are over here playing on FriendFeed, don't assume that everyone else is. 110 million are on Facebook, maybe more by now. When I went to Israel all I heard was "Facebook, Facebook, Facebook." Same with my niece and lots of others here in Silicon Valley. Also, its event calendar brings tons more people than others. - Robert Scoble
Communities are communities. - Andrew Feinberg
Typical conversation with Real World Friends: "So I saw this post on Friend Feed..." "What's that?" "It's this website where it aggregates everything you do on various social networks" "Social Networks? Like..." "Flickr, Twitter, Yelp..." (Blank Stares) "Websites like Facebook are social.." "OHHH FACEBOOK.. That's the best site ever. *blah blah blah" - George Smith
Alex Gawley: Seems that Facebook no longer will be closed. "This week facebook will also launch their Facebook Connect product, which is designed to let users get that data back out of Facebook." http://www.techcrunch.com/2008... - Alex Sauceda
but do you think the average FB user is going to use the "comment on news feed" feature? a quick scan of some of my heavy-user FB friends last week showed no comments on any news feed items, and then a couple days ago i noticed someone's status message was "I hate all these comment tags on facebook now"... - Trent Olson
LOL @ Friendfeedization - Bwana ☠
I love FF but all my non geeks friends and family are on Facebook. Seems that it works better for them. - Alex Sauceda
Keep in mind, that 18 months ago you could not have had this conversation with anyone who was not 1) in the SV echo chamber or 2) in college. Web services start small and some inflect to a larger community and some don't. - Christopher Sacca
My friends on FB go to Flickr for conversation. None of them are on FF. I add FF contacts in FB to view their bios. - Russellreno
Louis - Agreed but I think the reason is more that they're trying to do an even better job with targeted ads (to keep the price in check) ... ala GMail. I find my Facebook list growing from my activity on Friendfeed. Hmm - Charlie Anzman
Was the FriendFeed mini-feed on Facebook axed: no summary, just a note showing something was added? It's doing that for Feedheads too. Is this happening with others folks? - Blake N. Cooper
Jim: Thanks! Does that mean that my friends would need to change this on their end to see more than 1 line? I have a lot of my friends who will stick to the default (i.e. will be overwhelmed by process for changing) and most likely will not see the content of my Google Reader Shared Items and FriendFeed activity. Sucks if that's the case. Thanks again. - Blake N. Cooper
Jim: This is great, thanks! - Blake N. Cooper
Jim: Is that option retaining the setting - I have it set to one line, short and full, but the new items still seem to default to one line. - Richard Peat
Funny how one year later we are actually seeing the Facebookization of Friendfeed... - Jean-Marc Liotier

Great concepts! However, it would be nice, if you'd post a short link description in comments :-) - Alexey Ivanov
Mozilla Labs Design Challenge focused on finding creative solutions to the question: "Reinventing Tabs in the Browser - How can we create, navigate and manage multiple web sites within the same browser instance?".... There were about 128 submissions- mostly video+mockups and 4 were chosen as winners. The contest is a good preview of how tabs can be reinterpreted and is an indication of Mozilla's strategy to be ahead in the browser game, given that now almost all browsers have Tabs. - Ashish Tiwari
Thanks Alexey Ivanov for the comments, the pictures are the descriptions as they are from the wining concepts, added more textual description all the same. - Ashish Tiwari

Friendfeed needs to time-stamp the comments.
Yeah, that is something that I have been thinking about. - Kevin Bondelli
Less thinking more action ;) - Alberto Reyes
A tooltip maybe on hover over the quote graphic. Keep it clean - Andrew Smith
Optional feature - timestamp - not default. - Susan Beebe
great idea! - Sarah Perez
it must be part of the API, since fftogo seems to include a time stamp on the comments - Trent Olson
I'm sure they do store the timestamp, even if it isn't currently displayed. - Mack D. Male
Yeah, it's in the api, all comments & likes are timestamped - Glenn Slaven
I think this is a perfect plan. The only issue I might have is that the time information might take-over the conversations. It might just look more cluttered than FF already is. - Ryne Nelson
It would be useful sometimes. - Morton Fox
concur, very useful to have. Make it a display option. Those who would think it's clutter can turn it off then. - Alexander Falk
It is in the API (I use them in fftogo). I vote that the timestamp should appear as text when you hover over the "thought bubble" to the left. - Benjamin Golub
All comments are time-stamped in AlrertThingy and feedalizr - Stephen B from Alert Thingy
Comments are time stamped in bTT as well. - Francois Bochatay from bTT
and also in twhirl - Marco Kaiser from twhirl
agreed. Timestamps are important - Peter Dawson
What about a comment alert?! How do you follow conversations on ff!? - TommaSorchiotti
Not sure if this will add to the functionality, but should be something they can try out... - Dennis Goedegebuure
Not sure a comment alert is necessary. Comments bring the post up to the top of the timeline, which makes it available for anyone who is currently paying attention to Friendfeed. (Not sure why anyone would want their attention brought to Friendfeed if it isn't already there, that would be a huge productivity drain). - Jason Wehmhoener
Please, please remember that the whole world doesn't run on PDT. I don't want to see timestamps in my FF in gReader and have to always try to guess whether the west coast is 17, 16, or 15 hours behind. If you must display timestamps, please put them in GMT. Setting the timestamps on my FF page/in my FF feed to be correct in my local timezone would be even nicer. - James Polley
yeah ! and a hide fonction for each comment - Jonathan
منم به فارسی تایید می کنم - Kamal
we know which came first... but in n argument the comments can edit. that makes time stamping very important so we know when someone made a change - Noah David Simon
a timeline function in general would be nice, make everything more timeframe friendly - Ruben Llibre
Show times either in GMT or in my own timezone, and just make it a tooltip for the quote balloon or something. Don't want it to look cluttered. - Pat Hawks
just make the time relative from each comment, so I know who said what when in perspective. like 5 minutes later Noah David Simon said. <--this opens up - Noah David Simon
like i said earlier about plurk :) - kosmar
Is i really important to know when every single comment is made? Only the last one would really be useful, could have 'last comment on june 1 at..." right beside the date of the post. - John Duff
If the timestamp is a tooltip, then it isn't really "in the way." Maybe we can have all the timestamps as tooltips, except the most recent comment will have the timestamp printed out below it, like John said. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
I am so tired of entering an empty room and talking to myself for twenty minutes. lol - Russellreno
A needed feature for sure I agree. I suggested this to the FF feedback room some weeks ago. - Mike Fruchter

Sorry it's not more obvious, but if you hover your mouse over the comment icon you will see the time that the comment was made. Thanks for letting us know that it's hard to find! The feedback is much appreciated. - Ross Miller
I believe they are timestamped but this data is not yet displayed.... you're right ! - David Berrebi
other than timestamp I also want to be able to like the comments individually =] - Özgür D. Cyric

Agreed. The entire time... - Zachary Poley from twhirl
Rahsheen, your point is awesome right now :) - Zachary Poley from twhirl

The percentages are daily allowances. The recommended daily allowance for Sodium is 2400mg. This sandwich eats up half that in one shot. - Bwana ☠
What McDonald's sandwich is that a label for? Depending on the identity of the sandwich, I could live on two of those a day. Not healthily, but I wouldn't be starving. - Brian Chang
That's a good question, Brian. What sandwich do people think it is? :) - Dan Hsiao
Now I understand from the percentages of Protein and Fat why my boyfriend says McDonalds food just goes straight through.. - Charlotte M
Just how many burgers would you eat in a day? If I ate one for lunch and one for dinner I wouldn't be hungry all day. Eat some fruit on the side and you're all set. - Amit Patel
Amit, I think I could eat at least 3 a day and still be hungry. :) - Piaw Na
Considering that I believe the sandwich in question is a Big Mac (based both on the box, and on the fact that I cheated and looked up the nutrition info for a Big Mac on the McDonald's site), I could probably eat one for lunch and one for dinner and be pretty much satiated. - Brian Chang

Interesting article by one of the good guys. The thing he doesn't admit, though, is that the list is corruptible. That's why being on it brings with it some negative karma. When you are gifted something without earning it (and without transparency of how people get picked and how people get removed from it) people are resentful at best and distrustful of the whole thing at worst. This... more... - Robert Scoble
Scoble: I find that a lot of people join and don't get into Twitter because they don't want to invest the time in building their social graph on it. When Twitter created suggested users, they somewhat solved this problem for the average person. However, over the long term, I feel that the value of twitter and your social graph is increased if you build it person by person over the long term - in that sense I feel the suggested user thing is bad. - Mike Bracco
Jesse and Scoble: Sharing someone elses entry to another FF room doesn't make sense as it segments the entry into two unique threads. I wish FF cleaned this up. - Mike Bracco

Border bust equals possible international incident-missing TARP funds? Seizure of US government bonds from two Japanese men in Italy raises questions - http://wasatchecon.wordpress.com/2009...
bonds.jpg
6534357DAF1F47408DD949FC5E6FD341.jpg
There have been new developments with regards to the story of US$ 134.5 billion in US government bonds seized by Italy’s financial police at Ponte Chiasso on the Italian-Swiss border, which AsiaNews reported four days ago…some commentators are starting to link the story to reports in US press dating back to 30 March. On that date the US Treasury Department announced that it had about US$ 134.5 billion left in its financial-rescue fund, the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), whose purpose is to purchase assets and equity to buttress companies in trouble…At the same time, Japan’s Kyodo news agency has reported that the resignation of Japan’s Interior Minister Kunio Hatoyama might also be related to the Ponte Chiasso affair. Indeed there are many reasons to connect the Ponte Chiasso incident to the minister’s resignation…the men carrying the bonds had a Japanese passport. Secondly, they were not arrested. Under Italian law anyone in possession of counterfeit cash or bonds worth more... more... - Cee Bee
For example, why did Italy’s press, of every stripe, first give the matter great visibility, only to drop it as quickly? Also, if we are to assume that the bonds are real, why were they in Italy on their way to Switzerland? If these were the unused TARP funds why would they be in US Federal Reserve denomination? If they are authentic and owned by a foreign state, why were they not... more... - Cee Bee
Some more information on this here - http://www.dockersunion.com/vb... - Adam Turetzky
it's a fascinating story. even more fascinating as it's under this cloud of mystery and hot it's apparently being swept under the rug so to speak, i can't quite get my head around how that money ended up in the hands of two japanese "businessmen" - Cee Bee

My 6-yr old son was asked to count from 1 to 100. His teacher's not quite sure how to grade this - I love it!:

dang it - it's upside down - Jesse Stay
haha!! He is a civil engineer! Always willing to cut corners! ;-) - Sid Burgess
I think there's quite a bit of creativity here - he's definitely my son :-) - Jesse Stay
lol@Sid - Lee from email
He gets anA - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
It's still consistent! Would get an A from me. - Charlotte M
I'm told there was also a time-limit on this, so creativity, and correct - Jesse Stay
Smart guy of yours! I like him - David Alfaro
he's filling in the rest with computer code right? - Russ
Absolutely brilliant! - Robert Couture
Your son has a good eye for business, I can tell :) - Justin
Terrific! Praise his imagination. I remember being chided by a teacher for not writing '9' in three rows x 3 dots the way she explained it. I did 9 dots in a row. I recall being totally confused by her reaction. Math and I were never the same from that day on. - Kate Foy
hehe - he got the point! - Kevin Nordmand
omg, that's hilarious! - jbrotherlove
Good for him. As a teacher - an A+ - he understood the objective and went beyond expectations by showing the pattern. All A+ work must have the unexpected element within the lesson - http://www.helium.com/knowled... - LPH™ and his dog P™
Awesome, I'm with LPH (oh, and his dog) - Kenton
i love the reverse 9s and 7s! :) you have an awesome kid!! - D. Eda Goze
Not only did he show that he could count from 1-100, he should that he could a) multiply and b) save time ;) smart kid - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I'd give him credit but then I'd make sure he understood what was missing given the instructions... definitely creative. :) - Bwana ☠
Slacker in training? - Alex Scoble
He's going to be frustrated by stupid busy work -- fill in the blank reading assignments, and such. - Christopher A Carr
LOVE THIS. - Micah Wittman
awesome - metalerik
A+ for pattern recognition. - AJ Kohn
Perhaps he got frustrated with the paper's lack of copy and paste functionality. - Dennis O'Neil
Yes, paper is a lot like the iPhone. No copy and paste (until recently right?). - Mike Reynolds
Excellent! What was his intention when he did this? - Leigh
Jesse, my brother teaches high school math, and when I showed it to him tonight he said "Oh yeah, I'd give it 100%" (pssst - between you and me, he doesn't like grading, so less to look at == good ;) - Micah Wittman
Micah, good to know - I think his teacher kind of felt the same way. - Jesse Stay
was he counting in reverse ? :) - Yunus Tunak
Yunus, no, the reverse counting is due to his dumb father not able to upload images correctly and FriendFeed not being able to re-upload images. I #blamedrewscancer personally. - Jesse Stay
yeah i was kiddng actually but his reverse 9 and 7s are are also supporting that idea :D cool kid! - Yunus Tunak
Brilliant. I'd give him full grades if I were a math teacher. - Chris, Taskerrific Guy
001 dd 8d Ld 9d Sd... It must be some kind of new cipher. He's brilliant! - KyleHase from twhirl
He's quite brilliant and knows he should present his work logically, I would give him a straight A+ and jump him one class - Amit 'zyaada' Mittal
This is my father's style. Leave it blank if it's too straightforward and there is a pattern. A+. - Burcu Dogan
I never knew that the number before 100 was PP. And I have a mathematics degree. - James Myatt
His score has to be 64%. What is there to be unsure about? Still? Since last September? - Mark Czerniec

Cool! :-) - Kol Tregaskes
Once upon a time, the term "buzzes like a cereal box" was an unflattering way to describe speakers. Now we're making them out of cardboard on purpose. ;-) - Chris Baskind

I'm now very bored with the 'slide to unlock' screen on my iPhone. Ideally I'd like to get rid totally replacing it with potentially the home button acting as the keylock. Any apps out there that do this? Anyone else agree?

Want ! - Nir Ben Yona
In an effort to get traction on my post, no one read the message, they just 'liked' the image :( - Toby Graham
Agree - George Dearing from BuddyFeed
If you jailbreak your phone, there is a replacement for the slider which gives a tap to unlock. - Keith Bennett from BuddyFeed
there is. "Triple Home" on Cydia. Tap home button 3 times and it unlocks. Been working like a charm for months now. - vijay
three taps, that would take longer than the slide! Cheer for the suggestions tho - Toby Graham
A mallet and an anvil will wipe it off permanently. - Josh Haley
I agree. It was "cool" initially but now it's a pain - Don Bonaddio
It's not an entirely terrible concept, but the implementation could use some improvement, for sure. - Jason Wehmhoener
I don't think the current API's provide any mechanism for changing the lock screen. Neither do they provide any way to provide for any variation in the passcode screen. It would be very nice to provide for longer passcodes, or perhaps gesture based entry. This might all be very possible on a jailbroken phone, but that's the path to insanity and broken devices. - Donald Forth

Volkswagen 1-Liter 235 MPG Extreme Fuel Efficiency Car - http://www.greencar.com/article...
Volkswagen 1-Liter 235 MPG Extreme Fuel Efficiency Car
"Volkswagen's CEO, Martin Winterkorn recently confirmed the company is working on a car that will get 235 mpg (1 liter per 100 kilometers) fuel economy. In 2002, VW showed its 1-Liter concept car that achieved 264 mpg (0.89L/100km). The project was cancelled in 2005 but VW has now revived it. How real is this? VW now says a limited production car could be offered by 2010. The VW 1-Liter, developed in a wind tunnel, has a very narrow and very flat body configuration that necessitated tandem seating for the two occupants. Measuring in at 4.1 feet wide, 11.4 feet long, and just over 3 feet tall, the car features an amazing drag coefficient of just 0.159...even more wind-cheating than the slippery GM EV1 electric car's 0.19 Cd. With its 235 mpg fuel economy, it can travel 400 miles on its 1.7 gallon fuel tank...all the while achieving a 75 mph top speed." - Alejandro from Bookmarklet
I think that most vehicles would crush that little thing. That's the sad part about such super compact cars, you might as well be riding a bicycle when it comes to the other vehicles on the road. I think the Smart Car is just as bad, I'd hate to see them in an accident. - Aaron Kurtz
Yeah, let's abolish bicycles. If we all drive SUVs, the world would be such a saver and better place. - Peter
You'd be quite surprised at how tough the SMART car really is. http://www.youtube.com/watch... I'd rather be in a SMART than on my bike on the road!!! - Ho
Zee.
Friendfeed old timers...for you, has Friendfeed improved or worsened since the new major update was released?
Who you calling old? - Simon Wicks
Worsened. I believe we all got "lost in translation" - Olcayto Cengiz
me, improved...no doubt about it. - Zee.
Much improved. - Sweyn Venderbush from PeopleBrowsr
Some things have worsened, but improvement happened in a large scale. - Alejandro
improved - Kevin Johnson
Bit better, bit worse. I use the groups a hella lot more now, and feel i miss some stuff because i dont check them so often. I've subscribed to many more people though. - Simon Wicks
no difference really. - Moved to Facebook from fftogo
Better tools... Same awesome people - Johnny Worthington
Well, it's better on the whole. But sometimes I'm missing things. A certain feeling, don't know what. - Ton Zijp
I got more responses when I was using a Friendfeed account with a Second Life avatar name, using the then current old Friendfeed. Now I might as well be talking to the walls, or putting messages in bottles and tossing them at the bottom of a landfill. The new version is ok but it sorely needs bulk list management. I need to move about five hundred people or more off my home feed. - Chuck Baggett
Apart from some long-awaited improvements like directs and multiple recipients, the UI is clearly worse and disorganized - Alexandros Georgiadis from PeopleBrowsr
I think the only thing I really miss is the visual arrangement of things. I've had an FF account for a while, but don't consider myself a power user (of course, no one can compare to Kol). - Heather
improved. or maybe every other Social Media site has gotten worse.... - Mike Nencetti
Much improved, loving all the new features and looking forward to whatever new stuff is coming. :-) - Kol Tregaskes
I still hate realtime and my time spent here has dropped dramatically. Which isn't a great loss to the internet world, but still. - Nine
It's about the same for me. I hate realtime so I'm permanently paused. I use Greasemonkey and Stylish scripts to make it look like the old version. Doing those things, it's not really different. - Rochelle
Improved exponentially - Karoli from BuddyFeed
Much improved! It's useful in so many more ways now. I was liveblogging in it a couple of weeks ago which was great as other conference attendees joined in in realtime. Then there's private groups and the sweet, sweet hypnotism of the realtime feed! - Martin Bryant
FF has greatly improved for me over the last year. I'm in love with the live updates, etc. Very happy user. - Internet's Tad from fftogo
improved. - Parth Awasthi
improved. - AJ Kohn
Improved. - Louis Gray
It's a mixed bag for me...most of the new features are great, but the general community reaction to real-time has meant a decrease in overall participation, or so it seems. - Alex Scoble
Like someone mentioned above, I feel like I'm missing a lot of stuff. But, I doubt that is FF's fault. More like I'm subbed to too many people or something. Anyway, I do miss the older layout though. - Yolanda
better - anna sauce
Improved. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Much improved. - Kevin Whalen from email
Improved, but the settings are somehow scattered around. They tried to create a clean design, which they did (once you remove the awful gray background), but a centralized settings page is necessary. - George Iordanou
Improved, but I did some of the improving by restyling the pages. - Amber, Random Time Lord
Improved. - .LAG liked that
Better and imroved. Leaner, meaner and cleaner. But there are one or two things I miss . . . - Chris Loft
Better. - Rutger Blom
Worse. - Admiral Anika
Improved. - Thomas Bøhm
Anika - really? how comes? - Zee.
All the features that were selling points have been taken away. - Admiral Anika
My experience is essentially the same. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
And who you calling "old", Zee? Hehe. ;-) How about mature users? No wait, that doesn't work for some. ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
Worse for me as well :(... I think the addiction is gone but I am not really sure why. I used to love clicking to people's profiles and interacting with their feeds. Now I feel like I hardly do that. Also it feels a bit more like Twitter which has a bad association in my mind - Bindu Reddy
Improved. - Akiva Moskovitz
Improved though there are a few old features that I miss. - Steve Sill
Improved in value and in creased my usage also - Chris Heath
i'm no longer an addict, and while i like the new features, i miss late night interactions from the early days just over a year ago. night crew rep'n? - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Same - Rodfather
I LOVE FriendFeed :) Love new features... it's all good and getting better! :) Brian - YEP, I remember those days! fun - Susan Beebe
For the record, I see a complete difference with how things were in the 'old days' as to how things were before the UI change. Those are two different vectors. - Akiva Moskovitz
Changed? It's more realtime, which means that it's more useful for immediate communications, but less useful as a showcase for information. - Steve Lynch from twhirl
Given todays events, I think FF's new UI/feature set is in a better position to compete. And will only get better. - Kevin Whalen from email
Zee, you do realize that those who "voted with their feet" won't be here to tell you how much they hated the changes, right? Slightly skewing the results of this poll ;-) - Sprague D
yeah, good point Sprague :) - Zee.
gotten better for the most part though some concessions have been made imo - Cee Bee
it's different in a better sort of way - I liked the original just fine though - mike "glemak" dunn
Improved - I think there's a big win still to be achieved with the look, but real-time and simplifications really do it for me - Christopher Galtenberg
i wish i could say my experience was better, but it is worse. - edythe
Improved. - Aaron Hood
More powerful but more fragmented when compared to the old days. UI needs improvements though. - David Young
I no likee the new style. I likee old style mo' bettah. Old style was better for conversations in threads. more easy to follow. my old brain hurts with this new style. and i forget stuff when it goes to page 2. but more people like the new style i guess. bastards. :-) but i still love you all. really, i do. - Morgan Haley
I miss the icons which indicated what their entries were. And yes, I know there are greasemonkey scripts, for that, but I didn't have to do that last time. And I hate the real-time thingee, too. - Derrick
I'm not really sure - a few days ago I was frustrated and today I'm fine with things - so guess it just depends on the day. - LPH™ and his dog P™
Despite my respect and love for Morgan, I'm in the MO likee camp. Much mo, in fact. But I'm pretty easy to please. There are one or two things that I miss from the old days (like stats), but real time and the added benefit that this brings to other new features like DMs... have you ever used a DM as an IM platform, awesome!... plus the removal of caps from post length and the email addresses and.... yeah, definitely mo likee! - Jim Hearts FF
improved... - Kelly W.
its faster so missing an hour you'd have to back track several pages. end users shouldn't have to track repeated post, it would be nice if duplicates were automatically not allowed - Monique
I suspect you aren't going to hear too much from the people who didn't care for the update for two reasons: 1. The enthusiasts just argue with you, and who needs that and 2. If you *really* didn't like it you're gone -- you ain't using it and didn't hear the question. In any case, after a little time getting used to it, I have adjusted. But during the time of adjustment I got used to... more... - Dave Winer
I've seen the first real growth in a while, but my personal FF experience has been down lately - RAPatton
Aside from the missing service icons, and sort-by-service, and the hideous design (fixed by forthcoming skinning) it's pretty much perfect. Which makes the lack of service icons and service sorting so damn infuriating. There was NO reason to kill it, and 50 reasons to keep it, and so damn simple to turn back on as a freakin option. - Matthew DeVries
Improved - jcunwired
improved - Panayotis Vryonis
Its about the same, as with the last few beta/upgrade cycles I found the changes a little jarring and was put off by them at first. But as I actually started using the new features I appreciate the way they add to the over all user experience - J. Abdul-Qahhar
Improved but could be better with some minor tweaks. I do feel I am missing more things which means I need to make more lists. - Amani
Jason Huebel: you can do that still... the url is still the same (i think) here it is: http://friendfeed.com/realtim... - Chris Heath
it even still has the service icons still - Chris Heath
Improved in some ways and not so much in others. - Mathew™ one of a kind
improved without question - Marco(aureliusmaximus)
I miss the old interface. And I miss the level of communication I used to get before RT and the Twitter influx. I guess the verdict for me is worsened. - Lindsay
"I'm 37. I'm not old." - Craig Eddy
mixed. New cleaner interface is nice. A lot of old features were nicer. - Mitchell Tsai
I LUV it. However, the realtime is too fast for me - I usually have to pause - Ric Johnson
mixed - Steven Hodson
I like it better. - Bill Bittner
What current site most resembles the old friendfeeds mode of operation? - Chuck Baggett
Gotten much worse for me from the perspective of people looking at stuff I post, but improved the ability to have ad-hoc conversation. Overall I'm in the Nay camp. - Threepwood
I have mixed feelings. I like some of the changes but now I feel that I miss a good deal of content that I didn't before. I think this is primarily due to the fact that I can't get best of day for my lists anymore and even the current best of day only provides a small fraction of the posts on a daily basis. I also think real-time doesn't allow for the level of discovery that was available before and many items fly by the stream never to return. - Mark Krynsky
Improved. - Micah Wittman
Way improved. - Robert Scoble
Scoble is a n00b. :) - Louis Gray
Louis: watch it buddy or I'll leave a rotting banana in your BMW. ;-) - Robert Scoble
What Akiva said. Also: I love being able to search so specifically, and save searches and all that. However, I get significantly less engagement in certain circles of people that I *think* is directly related to real-time causing stuff to fly by. There's no objective way to measure that, though, it could just be people changing their habits, their subscription numbers, etc. EDIT: And I'm not just talking about less engagement for me. I also see other users have less comments on their stuff. - Laura Norvig
Social Media Foxy Boxing is so overdue... - Johnny Worthington
Improved. - Steven Perez
I wish they'd done something a bit more ballsy with the new ui. Feels unpolished to me. Flickr's level of cleanliness would have been nice to see. Nevertheless, the real-time stuff is cool. I wish the additions to the API were out though... - Aaron Brethorst
Improved. I'm spending much more time here now. - Murray Barton
Improved - Nicholas James
Improved - Alfredo
it actually became *usable* - Artem
I think that it's improved although disappointed that there is now no Best of Day on the iPhone application - Joe Dawson
Mixed, leaning toward worse. Real-time updates rule, but the new UI looks like Fisher-Price's My First Portal Page. Missing favicons identifying sources of updates, among other things - l.m.orchard
I'm not sure the current color-scheme and layout are the best they've ever had, but the product itself has definitely improved. The original FriendFeed was more like a super-soaker squirt gun. You pump it up and a little stream of water shoots out for a bit. Now, it's actually a firehose. Always on. You could potentially see all of your stream if you just stared at it all day. - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
A little better. - teh Dork Knight aka Kenny
I did not like it at first. I preferred the old format better - For some reason since the update I have been receiving new subscribers daily. Do you think that is because more people have joined since the update? - Laurie DesAutels
Improved! - Peter van Teeseling
Vastly improved. - Angus Burton

Retro Thing: Ferris Bueller's Ferrari House For Sale
"Here's your chance to own a piece of cinematic history - the location where Ferris Bueller's pal Cameron accidentally sent his father's prized Ferrari plunging through a picturesque plate glass window into the ravine below. "The Ben Rose Home - site of the famous movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Cantilevered over the ravine, these two steel and glass buildings - which can never be duplicated - have incredible vistas of the surrounding woods. This is a unique property designed by A. James Speyer and David Haid, both notable architects of the 20th Century." These magnificent examples of mid-century minimalism (that's an exterior shot of the garage on the left) can be yours for only $2,300,000, or $433.96 per square foot." - Thomas Hawk from Bookmarklet
WANT - awesome... - Jesse Stay
Good news is it also comes with the Ferrari. Bad news is it's in the revine below, and desperately needs it's odometer rolled back before Cameron's dad gets home. - Tech Introvert
