New Yelp iPhone app is also out. There's a cool easter egg (Augmented Reality feature). Here's how to do it:

Download the new Yelp app (came out yesterday). So you shake your iPhone 3 times. That activates a feature called Monocle. A message should come up if you activated it. A blue box will come up saying "the Monocle has been activated." It will create a button in the top right corner. Now you should be able to look at the bars, restaurants, etc. Only works on iPhone 3GS.

Nice idea but in my case the locations seem to be about 180 degrees off - i.e. showing behind me instead of in front - but may be down to a fuzzy GPS location or something - will have to keep trying

This is fantastic, just activated Monocle. For those having trouble, its best to move/raise and lower the iPhone 3 times vertically instead of just shaking it. I was shaking mine like a madman until I tried the vertical move.

I just got the yelp AR to work, and I am staying tonight in a hotel, so I went to my window, and held the camera to the window and it was able to show me reviews of the businesses right across the street from me! I am in love with yelp all over again!

Coming from the other side, I’d like to see the Facebookization of Friendfeed (without sucking that is). FF is a great place for content and discussion, but not so much for community and social networking.

Just because us early-adopter-inside-the-techie-bubble are over here playing on FriendFeed, don't assume that everyone else is. 110 million are on Facebook, maybe more by now. When I went to Israel all I heard was "Facebook, Facebook, Facebook." Same with my niece and lots of others here in Silicon Valley. Also, its event calendar brings tons more people than others.

Mozilla Labs Design Challenge focused on finding creative solutions to the question: "Reinventing Tabs in the Browser - How can we create, navigate and manage multiple web sites within the same browser instance?".... There were about 128 submissions- mostly video+mockups and 4 were chosen as winners. The contest is a good preview of how tabs can be reinterpreted and is an indication of Mozilla's strategy to be ahead in the browser game,given that now almost all browsers have Tabs.

Not sure a comment alert is necessary. Comments bring the post up to the top of the timeline, which makes it available for anyone who is currently paying attention to Friendfeed. (Not sure why anyone would want their attention brought to Friendfeed if it isn't already there, that would be a huge productivity drain).

Please, please remember that the whole world doesn't run on PDT. I don't want to see timestamps in my FF in gReader and have to always try to guess whether the west coast is 17, 16, or 15 hours behind. If you must display timestamps, please put them in GMT. Setting the timestamps on my FF page/in my FF feed to be correct in my local timezone would be even nicer.

If the timestamp is a tooltip, then it isn't really "in the way." Maybe we can have all the timestamps as tooltips, except the most recent comment will have the timestamp printed out below it, like John said.

When Twitter created suggested users, they somewhat solved this problem for the average person. I don't think the current API's provide any mechanism for changing the lock screen. Neither do they provide any way to provide for any variation in the passcode screen. It would be very nice to provide for longer passcodes, or perhaps gesture based entry. This might all be very possible on a jailbroken phone, but that's the path to insanity and broken devices.

"Volkswagen's CEO, Martin Winterkorn recently confirmed the company is working on a car that will get 235 mpg (1 liter per 100 kilometers) fuel economy. In 2002, VW showed its 1-Liter concept car that achieved 264 mpg (0.89L/100km). The project was cancelled in 2005 but VW has now revived it. How real is this? VW now says a limited production car could be offered by 2010. The VW 1-Liter, developed in a wind tunnel, has a very narrow and very flat body configuration that necessitated tandem seating for the two occupants. Measuring in at 4.1 feet wide, 11.4 feet long, and just over 3 feet tall, the car features an amazing drag coefficient of just 0.159...even more wind-cheating than the slippery GM EV1 electric car's 0.19 Cd. With its 235 mpg fuel economy, it can travel 400 miles on its 1.7 gallon fuel tank...all the while achieving a 75 mph top speed."

I have mixed feelings. I like some of the changes but now I feel that I miss a good deal of content that I didn't before. I think this is primarily due to the fact that I can't get best of day for my lists anymore and even the current best of day only provides a small fraction of the posts on a daily basis. I also think real-time doesn't allow for the level of discovery that was available before and many items fly by the stream never to return.

I'm not sure the current color-scheme and layout are the best they've ever had, but the product itself has definitely improved. The original FriendFeed was more like a super-soaker squirt gun. You pump it up and a little stream of water shoots out for a bit. Now, it's actually a firehose. Always on. You could potentially see all of your stream if you just stared at it all day.
