Does the "black box warning" include anaphylactic shock ie, the doctor's office injection? I was just curious as to why this isolation approach (to Hives) is used rather than wholistic (tracing it back up the pipe) and what the trigger is? Yes, you're body is missing something others have, but not "what" but "why" should be the question, shouldn't it? Sometimes something as incredibly simple as altering body pH works wonders.

This drug is specifically indicated for a genetic disease where it's known the patient is missing a certain enzyme, and not just for regular hives. Like other polypeptide medications, there's always a risk you might have a severe reaction to it.

Yes, those severe reactions are what always drive me to the question: I'm putting myself at risk for a reaction to avoid a reaction? Hmmm. It also puts me to asking about another approach (for surely there must be one that we just haven't looked hard enough for...that doesn't incur a reaction)
- Melanie Reed
Well, if you have hereditary angioedema, you will get the associated symptoms at some point. But not everyone will have a severe reaction from the medication. So, like everything else in life, you have to weigh the risks and benefits. There isn't any form of treatment that has null risk.
