Ok I admit it, I do not understand the appeal of Lady Ga Ga. I don't find her look to be that interesting, and I'm not a fan of the music I've heard. I'm glad others like her, I just don't get why.
I'd been ambivalent until I heard "Bad Romance," which for some reason I loved. Weirdly, I now like some of her other stuff better as well. No rational explanation there.
- Jennifer Dittrich
I don't get her look at all, but some of her songs are starting to grow on me.
- Penguin It's Cold Outside
Haven't heard a song but from what I've seen teh gayz like her. Just not this one.
- Derrick
I'd have to admit, some of her tunes are catchy and she does have skills. No hate from me.
- Rodfather
i hear that she's actually a good musician that paid her dues and stuff.
- Morgan Haley
I intensely dislike her music and don't get what the appeal is. That said, I'm not on a crusade or anything.
- Chieze Okoye
I don't hate her, I just don't get what the appeal is. I suppose it is just a matter of her style not fitting my taste.
- Joe Pierce
i can't stand her look and want her to wash her face and put on jeans and a t-shirt. friends love her. i don't hate her, but I do like that dumb poker face song
- Baroness Von SmashAHomie
I think I like her because she is so confounding.
- WorldofHiglet
she is hard for me to look at and listen to. but i get the appeal. she (and her production) is the epitome of modern pop music. 99% of the pop artists out there wish they had her hooks. i cant stand her work but i get the appeal. here, wash yourself off with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch... its hard for me to deal with the fact that this is the same person.
- Carlos Ayala
Carlos: yes, she is actually incredibly talented and not a studio-packaged cypher. More reason to like her :)
- WorldofHiglet
Madonna and Marilyn Manson's love child. That's how I like to think of her. Although, I should really give Marilyn Manson more respect than that.
- Josh Haley
I have somehow managed to avoid her music (why yes, I do live under a rock), but I saw a clip of her interview on Ellen and she was kind of sweet, actually. Said she felt like a freak in High School. Maybe all artists say that.
- Laura Norvig
from iPod
Josh, I'd actually much rather sit through an entire Ga Ga concert than just one Marilyn Manson song. I'm on the edge with Madonna...ever since she massacred that Bond theme.
- Joe Pierce
"Get out your checklist: - Shot of a character very far away, walking toward the camera but blurred as heat rises up from the road? Damn right. - Hero shot from below, framing the character with a blue sky behind them? You know it! - Incoherent action? From start to finish. - Thoughtful characters? Not a one. - Explosions? Why wouldn’t there be!"
- Alex Scrivener

"There’s no sassy black character who’s had it with all your motherfuckin bullshit or an elderly Asian character who has no reaction to the insane action going on just a few feet behind him, but why would he give that away for free when people will pay 12 dollars for it."
- Alex Scrivener
So what's the commercial for? Miller or Bud?
- Jim Hearts FF
Kol, use your connections and see if you can get in on the BFBC2 beta, the MP takes MW2 back to the drawing board.
- Carlos Ayala
BFBC2 does look good but a PC game for me. I've played the demo, very good.
- Kol Tregaskes
lol, oh dear. I thought you meant you had it already too.
- Amy
Hehe, it's only a matter of days I think. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Like most, if not all shooters, Kol, I agree. Nothing comes close to the accuracy and speed you get on the PC...maybe gaming with a mouse and keyboard on the console but i havent experienced that yet. But playing this on the console has no hardware implications and barely any networking implications either. I wouldn't say i am completely converted just yet, but I am embracing the PS3 more and more when it comes to gaming.
- Carlos Ayala
The reason I'm asking is I think I want to buy a relatively low cost surround sound receiver (under $500) for testing my system before I jump in with both feet on really expensive preamps and receivers.
- Cristo
And since I haven't been able to find any systems that can handle multiple surround sound zones, I want to keep looking. However, I also need something in the meantime to test my system and continue to iterate. I'd rather postpone the preamp purchase decision as well, so I was wondering if the receivers can operate standalone.
- Cristo
A receiver consists of a tuner, a pre-amp and a power amp. You can buy a receiver or buy the three components separately.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
Mark, that's in the traditional audio world. But I think it's slightly different now for home theater systems. The tuner is no longer interesting, and for my purposes, the pre-amp is less important because I'm doing all the switching in the HDMI matrix switch.
- Cristo
not sure if this answers your question or not but my onkyo (i am pretty sure its a 706) has a preamp and does multi-zones.
- Carlos Ayala
Carlos, how many speakers does each zone support?
- Cristo
i'll have to check when i get home and get back to you, but my impression back when i bought it was two full 7.1 zones...but i can totally be making that up.
- Carlos Ayala
again, i think its the 706 but i will have to reconfirm that. my short term memory is failing me.
- Carlos Ayala
A preamp requires an amp, a receiver has amps built in.
- Alex Scoble
And if you find a receiver or preamp that outputs surround sound to multiple zones, please let me know.
- Alex Scoble
However, chances are that if you do find a receiver capable of outputting SURROUND sound to multiple zones that it will only be able to power the first zone. You'll have to get separate amps for the other zones.
- Alex Scoble
Alex this sounds like what i have. Mine will do multi-zones. But only a (independently) powered second with surround.
- Carlos Ayala
I highly doubt that your receiver does surround sound to the second zone...should only do stereo.
- Alex Scoble
My Onkyo TX-NR807 (newer than the mentioned 706) only supports 7.2 in the first zone. Zones 2 & 3 are stereo.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
I have yet to find a single preamp or receiver that will do surround sound (5.1, 7.1 or 9.2) to more than the first zone. So it would be of great interest to me if anyone knows of one.
- Alex Scoble
Then again, I doubt such a device will exist in mass consumer gear as the additional zones are usually used to distribute music around a house. As far as consumer electronics companies are concerned, they seem to think that Chris White's requirements aren't monetizeable.
- Alex Scoble
I couldnt wait so I looked up my order and its the 807. Right Alex, i meant stereo not surround and as Mark mentioned its 3 zones. dont mind me, I'm all f'd up.
- Carlos Ayala
"News that critically acclaimed vocalist Sade is working on her first studio album in nearly a decade, Soldier Of Love, has been welcomed by music lovers worldwide. Due to her unique fusion of R&B and smooth jazz the Nigerian born singer created timeless classics such as Smooth Operator and The Sweetest Taboo. With the leak of the title track we now get the chance to hear what her highly anticipated new body of work will sound like. Fortunately the long wait was more than worth it. Sade leads her sultry yet powerful voice over a staccato rhythm thus proving that she has retained her style despite the numerous changes within the musical landscape in recent years. Soldier Of Love is set for a worldwide release on February 8th via Sony Music."

It's exactly what it sounds like, and yet it's so much more. Geologically speaking, the Giant Rock, located in California's Mojave Desert, is roughly seven stories high and covers almost 6,000 square feet. Some say it is the largest free-standing boulder in the world.
- Carlos Ayala
While the rock has been a Native American spiritual site for thousands of years, the modern back story of the boulder begins in the 1930s, when a German immigrant and miner named Frank Critzer met a pilot named George Van Tassel. They became friends and Van Tassel loaned Critzer 30 dollars to buy mining equipment. Critzer then dug out a 400 square foot home for himself directly beneath...

"Boing Boing Video proudly debuts a new piece from the "great god almighty could it get any more awesome?" N.A.S.A. music project, this one from two personal music heroes: Tom Waits, and Kool Keith. The track is called Spacious Thoughts, and you can pick it up on the project's debut album, Spirit of Apollo (Amazon link.)"

"Very few sights could make mighty Mount Everest seem insignificant, but this could be one of them - an awe-inspiring image of the stars in the night sky casting their glow from inconceivable distances onto the world's highest peak. The photograph shows the constellation Auriga looming above Everest, seen to the left of its smaller Himalayan neighbour Lhotse, while in the foreground stands a stupa - a Buddhist monument. The celestial scene was pictured late last month near Namche Bazar, Nepal, above the gateway to the mountain range.Almost directly over Everest is the dazzling star Capella. While in astronomical terms it is relatively close to our own solar system, its distance is still a mind-boggling 42.2 light years - that's 248 trillion miles - making Everest's five-mile height seem minuscule. Though to our eyes it appears as a single star - the third brightest in the Northern sky - Capella is actually a complicated system of four stars revolving in two binary pairs. Auriga means...

I watch it on mute. Obviously I don't care much for the dialogue.
- Derrick
The dialogue was the funniest part. Especially when they Auto-Tuned everyone's voice.
- Steven Perez
from IM
It is bloody ridiculous. I've watched it about 5 times just to remind myself how ridiculous it is.
- Kamath (नमः)
I take that last part back. The REALLY funny part of 300 is Frank Miller. Dude seems to believe that this movie was a rallying call to stop all of the brown people from invading civilization: http://www.theatlasphere.com/metablo.... I think I just found out how THE SPIRIT got made.
- Steven Perez
DYSP's First Rule of Movies: If a movie pays more attention to SFX or soundtrack than to plot or dialogue, AVOID. If I want to look at something pretty, I'll go to an art gallery. If I want SFX, I'll play a video game.

This is the "watching terrible movies" weekend, right Steven??
- Roberto Bonini
A few weekends ago this was on with Gladiator and Troy. The amount of masculinity I absorbed that weekend was enough to make me want to dine in hell. *leonidas face*
- Jon, the Beartato of FF
maybe you should Steven. they animated the comic. in that context, this is a great movie. its not trying to be accurate in anyway. its supposed to be over the top and exaggerated. this is a bluray/hd must have for anyone that has the slightest interest in hi-def. check out the comic at your LCS and see for yourself.
- Carlos Ayala
thats a good way of putting it Sparky, yes.
- Carlos Ayala
I'll read it, Carlos, but if this is a faithful adaptation of the book, then the book should also be ridiculous. As in "OMGWTFBBQ redonkulous", Sparky.
- Steven Perez
I thought the movie was good, but I was only in it for the action.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
well considering they only used one or two actual set pieces and the entire thing was cg'd and greenscreened, i thought it was pretty amazing...in an entertaining sort of way. ;)
- Carlos Ayala
Visually, very impressive. Otherwise, ridiculous.
- Steven Perez
Still hasn't coerced me into working out more, but whatever. It is a beautiful looking blu-ray.
- Derrick
Oh, I loved this movie. I always compare it like watching ballet. Well I guess people looking at ballet pay attention to the same things I was liking in 300. I still like to show myself my favourite scenes. Maybe the same scenes you laugh about, but I think the action scenes in this movie are so stylistically attractive, it's making it one of the best films of the last few years.
- Ton Zijp
I liked the movie. Although most of it were over the top, fantasy-esque, I did enjoy the few bits that were relatively faithful of the Spartans. For example, their laconic wit (although I can see how it dampens most view of the dialogue) and the lambda on their shields. Nice portayal of the phalanx and their warrior spirit. Being able to capture the comic frames and translate them to a movie was also pretty awesome.

It's Whiny Ass Titty Baby time, so bear with me or bypass. Today is my birthday. It's a day I took off last year from work, and I now think I should have taken off this year. I am admittedly unreasonably upset at the indifference I've gotten from my co-workers (except for two or three of them).
I get in at 7:30 AM, NOONE will even talk to me, not even in passing. I don't even get a hug until my two best friends in the office arrives. It's as if I don't count or don't exist. In fact, I'm getting more love from my online acquaintances than I am from (most of) these people. And I'm afraid that if I make it a point to remind people, I'm going to look like a douchebag (hell, I'm probably already looking like a douchebag for even typing this). But dammit! I can't be hated that much, can I? It's my day, dammit! I'm fucking special, and I'd like some acknowledgement to that effect.
- Helen Sventitsky
Happy Birthday! (And you don't look like a douchebag for typing this out - it sucks to have people ignore your birthday.)
- Jennifer Dittrich
You guys are the best! Thanks so much! :D I've worked there three point five years. You'd think by now they'd have some inkling. Anyway. again, apologies for the whinefest. I guess I need to go look for some cheese now...
- Helen Sventitsky
Helen, I hate to hear that your co-workers are so indifferent. And I don't think you should apologize for how you were feeling. I don't want a big fat hairy deal on my birthday, but being totally ignored stinks on ice.
- ha3rvey (needs soup)
a belated happy birthday! been in that situation many times. but then, i never tried to make friends in any straight day job situation. most of my friends are from my old music circles or from online. i think i'm still in touch with ONE person from school days, but then we've been in bands together a few times in the past 25 years so that's a bit different.

You can plug the PB into a router/hub with a standard ethernet cable and hook the MB in with either wired or wireless ethernet. If you want to transfer files it would be easy to set up an FTP server on one of the machines and a client on the other.
- Jim Norris
Are you sure Rob? Ethernet should be the same size on both. You don't even need a hub/router, since the MacBook should have an auto-sensing port. Hook 'em together and hopefully they should see each other without further setup, though I'm not sure on that point. Starting up file-sharing on one or the other should allow the other to connect to the share.
- Kevin Fox
I like the FTP idea; there's a chance the PowerBook won't understand the version of AFP (Mac's file sharing protocol) the MacBook has, and it's annoying to set up file sharing in Mac OS Classic. If you go the AFP route, you can try the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb... Ethernet is ethernet: Apple has implemented it in the same way since it started...
- Mark Trapp
One thing to note is that AFP will not work if you have 10.6 on the MacBook; the PowerBook requires Appletalk, which 10.6 no longer has.
- Mark Trapp
I liked both Wanted and Nightwatch (And I did know that they shared directors, actually). Daywatch was a lot weirder, but I kinda liked that too.
- Chieze Okoye
I wasn't super happy with Daywatch when I saw it, but I've seen Nightwatch probably 10 times. Rahsheen it's a Russian Vampire movie.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
I think Nightwatch is very love/hate, it is so over the top and it can be very confusing to follow at times. It also has really amazing subtitles though.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Agreed about the subtitles. So cool 8^)
- Chieze Okoye
I'm going out on a limb and assuming we're not talking about the Nightwatch with Ewan McGregor and Josh Brolin LOL.
- Penguin It's Cold Outside
Nightwatch was fun. The first five minutes of Daywatch is pretty amazing.
- Carlos Ayala
I <3 Nightwatch (I especially loved the subtitles for it) -- weirdly, I liked Wanted as well, but I had pretty low expectations.
- Jennifer Dittrich
Comparing Nightwatch movie to the book, I didn't care for it much. But on its own as a movie, what they did was awesome. Daywatch felt like it was just bloated with special effects (though I still liked watching it). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
- Arlan Koizumi
I actually did not enjoy the Nightwatch book, I read about half of it before giving it up. I've also seen the other Nightwatch, with Ewan McGregor, completely different feeling. ;)
- Andrizzle Gizzle
The opening scene of Wanted is so obviously in the same style as Nightwatch that I'm not sure why it took my third viewing to piece it together. I did recognise that they shared an actor though.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
That's interesting! What was it that turned you off from the book? | I'm going to have to watch the opening scenes of both movies again. Good excuse to watch fun stuff tonight. :P And yep, Konstantin!
- Arlan Koizumi
I think the writing style, it felt like it was poorly translated, it kind of drove me crazy. I tried it like 2 years ago so I don't really remember why it frustrated me. I also do not read a lot of fantasy or anything so maybe that ws part of it.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Yeah, Nightwatch is so good but Daywatch... I had a hard time watching that one.

Ya why did the dude kick the kid in the first place?
- Rodfather
The tw*t never heard of manners..? he only had to ask..got what he had coming, I'd have kicked the tw*t in the leg as well.. taste of his own medicine...
- Rob Sellen :o)
i cannot publicly state what i wouldve done to this guy if he touched my kid. i agree, he got off easy.
- Carlos Ayala
although it DOES look a little faked... don't know.. the way the guy leant back as he got thumped..
- Rob Sellen :o)
What in the hell was that guy thinking? I can only imagine my reaction if anyone tried that with my son.
- Fleagle
what the fuck?? WHY WOULD THAT asshole kick a kid??
- eynollah
it doesn't make any sense why he kicked the kid?!!
- Darth Farhad Sama
I think because he is married to that fat woman and she is the real target :-)
- eynollah
It does look a little staged. I so no reason for kid kick and then he starts to lean back to take the punch.
- Jerry Perez
Jerry, most people lean away from a punch as it's coming in to dodge/soften the blow.
- Chieze Okoye
iyi koymuş velede valla. helal ediyorum hakkımı. seni de tuttum öbür oğlan. semra kaynanayı çağırın. öf.
- Deli Selim
Yeah, but his hands didn't even come up.
- Jerry Perez
Oh, that's a good point. Hmm, you're right. Looks somewhat staged.
- Chieze Okoye
Judging by the comments, I'm gonna posit there is a hidden message in the animated gif.
- Sean Oliver
If the guy wanted to hurt the kid, I'd think he'd do more than kick the air between the kid's legs (the kid has no reaction at all). I'm leaning to staged. I guess the guy could be a bad aim. *shrug*
- Arlan Koizumi
Having a notion in your mind to hurt a kid is fucked up to begin with. I don't understand the quick reaction.
- Rodfather
It doesn't matter "where" he kicked, Arlan. He should not even think about it.
- Nymphadora
Why would he even touch the kid?? He had no right to do anything like this, and I'm so happy the kid's father was there!!
- Citronella

The problem with the freedom of boxers is that sometimes... things... get a bit... too... free. I remember a visit to bro- and sis-in-law years back, when I went to the kitchen for a glass of water. There I met my brother-in-law in his t-shirt and boxers, and God help me, I saw EVERYTHING. I tried not to react, but I don't think I succeeded.
- Ladybug Heather
You still need character sheets. That's what I'm told, anyway.
- Jeremy (cropmarks)
I wouldn't know. I've never been exposed to it.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I was kidding about not knowing. You do need sheets. You can't tell someone your Tzimisce has Obtenebration unless you've got proof.

The Big Silver Knob with the glowing LCD display in front of your Christmas Tree intrigues me. I have no clue what it is, but I must have one!

@Matthew: I have that one, too! No study is complete without The Big Silver Knob.

What do we think? Look at Group G and Group A ... :O ouch!
- Amani
great draw for the US and Italy! Group G is definitely the Group of Death
- Bren, Not Grinchy
G? Really? Brazil is going to take it to their faces. I think A, B, C will be the funnest to watch. :)

This is the first year that I have really decided to get into soccer. I did get into the last World Cup, but this year I've watched more soccer then the other 21 years of my life. Can't wait for the World Cup next year.
- Mathew™ one of a kind
Brazil, Portugal and Côte d'Ivoire are all strong teams. I feel bad for Korea PDR.
- Bren, Not Grinchy
I'm very happy with England's draw. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
England's recent World Cup history has them making it more difficult for them in the group stage, right? Odds are that will continue. ;)

Happy with the draws the US & Argentina got. Can't wait.

Will you lose yr shit if it ends up being the US v. Argentina?

Na...that would be cool...I'd have to root US if that happens.

I only listen to the radio. I killed my tv five years ago.
- Joe
I abandoned regular TV watching about a decade ago and regular radio listening about 5-yrs. ago (at the time it was news radio only). Not much lost because of podcasting options and I also watch some TV via Hulu now. It's really just shifting technologies with the same content.
- Kenley Neufeld
from iPhone
Radio... TV is actually improving, oddly enough.
- Adrian
Radio, of course. You could listen to podcasts, Pandora, Last.fm, Slacker, Live365 - why on earth would you need radio?
- Nathan Chase
I don't watch tv now. We haven't had cable in 6 months. I use the internet. But if it was a choice between traditional, probably radio. All things being equal, of course.
- Sheryl
TV. Radio is a much better source for in-depth information and artistic coverage, when you choose the right sources. Television has the potential to be more informative, but that has mostly been squandered, IMHO.
- Mark Jepsen
It's a done deal: TV and radio. Like Sheryl, I rely on the Internet entirely.
- Melanie Reed
TV is flourishing these days. A LOT of the content is VASTLY superior to movies, and has been that way for at least 5 years now. TOP 40 Radio is a fucking disgrace to music, business, popular culture, Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, the human race, and Earth in general. If you happen to be someone that listens to top 40 radio on a daily basis, please do yourself a favor and AT LEAST get satellite.
- LarchOye
Radio. The stations are so homogeneous at this point that I feel like I rarely get anything from it.
- Jennifer Dittrich
both, unless you are grouping personal music collections in with the radio, then TV only. Otherwise I already don't watch TV and when not in a contract with a service provider don't even subscribe to anything. And as for radio, I don't listen to anything broadcasted, I listen to my iphone
- Kamala Whitaker
I am shocked that in todays world this is even a question/debate. Sure I listen to the morning radio show occasionally on my way in to the office but if I had to give it up all together I really don't think I would even notice. In short, radio.
- Nicholas Kreidberg
I did abandon radio years ago. I love TV, but for music I've found much better ways to listen to music and be exposed to new music than radio.
- Andrew C
Radio. Besides much of what's said before, I also can't give up my video games (while I'm usually PC gaming, there's lots of games I have on my console). Also, my car radio is broken and I don't want to pay to get it fixed (gg iPod!).
- Arlan Koizumi
All you people that said radio, what do you listen to in the car?
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
For me, I mentioned iPod. :) Either a Genius selection of a favorite genre or on rare occasions a podcast.
- Arlan Koizumi
I don't drive. And I listen to my iPod. But your question reminds me of Liz Lemon. "Steven: Sorry, I don't own a TV. Liz: Really, what do you sit and look at?"
- Andrew C
I don't own a tv and I have a Sirius/XM subscription, so I guess tv.
- Katy S
TV. The radio I would preserve is not traditional radio. I'm talking about only NPR and satellite.
- Kamilah Gill
I have already abandoned both, TV was first, back in 2003, then a strange dialup modem quirk required me to play music constantly to stay connected (stupid combo modem/soundcard), which lead to me playing mp3's in winamp 24/7.
- April Russo (app103)
I've bailed on both for the most part.
- Steven Perez
