# svn - This is the command # export - The difference with checkout is that with an export, you get a clean copy of the code, and none of the subversion metadata, so it can’t be used to svn up or make further changes. # –force - you will overwrite all of the folders and files if they exist - Casey

*UPDATE*: For all of you people who were so kind to download this plugin, and get DB errors, please update your plugin to the latest version (1.2) and all should be well. I’ve tested the installation procedure over and over, and eventually didn’t come up with any bugs or errors. The plugin has both been tested in WP 2.3.x and WP 2.5.x. - Casey

Create a profile with your personal information, clippings from the web and your personal social networking lifestream. Profilefly works as a widget or as a Facebook application, and it supports a huge number of social networks, including MySpace, Digg, Hi5, Facebook, Last.FM, Second Life and many others. The actual profile is a bit bland, with the lifestream - which should be the center of such an application - offering very limited options; for example, time stamps and any kind of interactivity is lacking. - Casey

If you’ve been developing for the web for long enough, you may be familiar with this little children’s fable, passed down from wizened Shaolin monks sitting atop the great Mt. Geocities: “Once upon a time, multiple columns of the same height could be easily created using TABLES.” Now, though we’re all comfortably seated on the standards train (and let’s be honest: even if you like to think you’ve fallen off, if you’ve given up using tables for layout, rest assured your sleeper car is still reserved), this particular—and as page layout goes, quite basic—trick is still a thorn in our CSSides compared to the ease of achieving the same effect using said Tables of Evil™. - Casey

BONUS: Install Windows fonts and multimedia codecs Because of its open-source ideals and licensing, Ubuntu can't include non-open codecs like MP3s, WMA/WMV, or DVD playback by default. Getting it all working, though, isn't too hard. Head over to the Medibuntu site, and follow the instructions for "Playing Encrypted DVDs" and "Playing Non-Native Media Formats." So those are a few things this writer always does when installing a new Ubuntu system, or helping friends install theirs. Let's hear our Linux-savvy readers' hit lists—what are the first steps you always take when setting up your new system? Share your items, and commands, in the comments. - Casey
