Hacker News is extremely noisy, but often interesting. InfoQ has some great stuff. Most software engineers tend to write with an extremely narrow focus, so there's a bunch of small blogs that fit that description. I'm a frontend guy, so Agile Ajax, Ajaxian, Planet jQuery, Comet Daily, Digital Web News, Dustin Diaz, Particletree, the dojo toolkit aggregator, Yahoo User Interface Blog...

InfoQ is a good site. You can setup a personalized RSS, which is very useful. TSS (http://theserverside.com/) is also good if you're into Java. It used to be better, though.
