"I think the subreddits SHOULD be tags. Everyone seemed to adopt tags for bookmarking (ma.gnolia.com, del.icio.us, etc), for blogs, ... everything but digg and reddit? Seems obvious to me. As an aside.. we aren't "fracturing our communities". We're just stuck subscribing to multiple feeds (which don't fucking work)." - jeff

"Wait. This seems to make the assumption that Ada stopped being a large part of the DoD infrastructure. I'd like to see some evidence to that claim." - jeff

"This sounds like someone who installed ubuntu (or any other gnome based distro) about a month ago, and doesn't realize he doesn't have to use anything he has complaints with. It reads as a forced article that he just spent 10 minutes coming up with shitty complaints." - jeff

"I'll probably post a response tomorrow on my blog.. I'd like to be a bit less hasty with my response this time. Most points I have read are fair responses, and I think there is an interesting discussion to be had here." - jeff
"You can always block the beacon js file with a browser plugin (blocksite works well for firefox). Oh, and you can also just .. *gasp* not use facebook. People are worried about their information getting out --- when they are sitting there typing the information into the text box on facebook. They don't steal your information, you hand it to them." - jeff

"Don't use this. Seriously. Don't. We used it in a "digital design" class at Virginia Tech.. it crashed every third minute, and would corrupt your data, even if you saved it. Not only that but it teaches you shit about programming. Even our instructors couldn't really dream up great reasons to use it. Mention alice and people on campus start to laugh about how retarded it is. No one is complaining about the _real_ programming classes. I'm planning a book burning for the alice instruction books. It looks like we're are going to have pretty good turn out. The crux of the problem is obvious. Alice isn't meant for anyone older than 12. But then again, if engineering students in top collegiate programs can't bear to use it... how will the 11 year middle school girls? Summary: bad experience. ymmv" - jeff

"This article is making a logical leap that it can't support. "X should be written in lisp" vs. "X's API sucks". X could've been written in any language, I could care less. It's _API design_ is what's important. People need to stop comparing languages in an atomic "Z is better than Y" fashion. It's ignorant and annoying." - jeff
