"People are paying for good apps. As in, they’re giving you money in exchange for software. This is a very foreign and welcome concept to web people accustomed to whoring out and begging for traffic to survive on a $1 CPM." via Hacker News - Mustafa K. Isik via Bookmarklet
Can I write reviews of elastic blocks, and maybe get recommendations, see what other people who looked at this block eventually bought? - ⓞnor
$0.10 per GB-month of provisioned storage, $0.10 per 1 million I/O requests. - Sanjeev Singh
Really cool. A single disk should be able to do about 10 million i/o day, so an i/o saturated disk cost about $365/year. 1TB of their storage costs $1200/year, so getting a "full" disk is over $1500/year. (vs $125 for raw disk, though 2x for machine and 3x for replication would be $750, though obviously it's possible to do better than that). That's lower than s3, oddly ($0.15/GB/mo). - Paul Buchheit
"Why does Blizzard succeed where others don't?" asks Jay Wilson, a lead game designer with a shock of spiked hair and a wry disposition. "It isn't a magic trick. We work at it, and if a product isn't good enough, we cancel it." - Sanjeev Singh via Bookmarklet

"Legendary Pictures, the studio behind blockbuster comic book adaptations like Batman Begins and 300, is currently working on a big-budget, live-action film based on WoW slated for 2009.". I wonder if Mr T will play a night elf mohawk :) - Sanjeev Singh
the environment/game theyve constructed is certainly more impressive/usable than ie second life - they need to borrow their technology :P - bob
So, pretty much like any good company then: produce quality and only quality :) - Vincent van Wylick
I met Pat Wyatt in 1995, when he was the VP of Engineering at Blizzard. Unlike most other game companies, he was competent and knew the code inside out. I could, however, tell you war stories about the first Diablo... - Piaw Na
I've always been impressed by Blizzard games rarely crashing or buggy, and being smooth/fast. It's not that I wonder why Blizzard succeeds where others don't. I wonder why others fail at such simple things. Why do so many games require the CD in the drive? Or have 8 splash screens telling you all their favorite software and hardware companies? - Amit Patel
I'm sure it doesn't hurt that Blizzard can afford to take the time to get things right. Not all game companies have that luxury from what I understand -- many are living from game to game, and that puts tremendous pressure on to hit dates, not ship perfect products. Still, it's to Blizzard's credit that they continue to focus on quality rather than milking franchises for all they're worth in the short term. - DeWitt Clinton
OMG. How on earth do you know about Go Parc!? - Mustafa K. Isik
some years ago i had a friend whose family still lived there. even longer ago i knew some guys from bünde. i gave them a call and we managed to combine a family reunion with a kick ass GO PARC party escalation :) i found the people to be much more raving compared to munich...was a great night :) - krz9000
True, after moving to Munich eight years ago, I couldn't stop wondering how little the club scene here had to offer - that is despite "Kunstpark Ost" and the various other places spread all over town. For the last couple of years I have been dropping by "The Garden" and "Die Registratur". - Mustafa K. Isik
Reminds me of the scene in "Big" where Tom Hanks does not get how playing with a transformable action figure is supposed to be exciting when one of it's forms is a skyscraper. - Mustafa K. Isik
Sometimes in the bus, I feel this enforcement to jump in the air, and hear this sedative sound of collecting coins.... just 2 for 1up ... just 2... - Christian Weber-Detjens

ok so whats the real world app going to be ?? model your face and then get a nip, tuck and a lift ?? Riya and Polar Rose had facial recognizability built into the core. - Peter Dawson
One part of tech that is advancing quickly without any notice from Silicon Valley is the software that will drive the Human Gnome Project. It always starts with the artists, then the military, and then reality. John McCain said he knows where Bin Laden is. Yea, Ill bet he does! I'll bet he *IS* Bin Laden!! - Andrew Baron
I like the first one better because the second one looks fake & a bit creepy. - Mike Cohen

@andrewbaron I like the lovely typo in your comment about << Human "Gnome" Project>>. This software will surely "dwarf" any other software development project ;) - Pierre-Philippe Martin
Um, what's wrong with the first pic? If she smiled... - Rick Powell
@Rick, I actually think she looks nicer in pic one, even without smiling. She looks kinda luck a stuck-up beeotch in pic two. - Laura Norvig
The process detects deviations from the archetypal face. If you take the process and apply it in reverse, accentuate the deviations, you essentially have a caricature. You could put hundreds of boardwalk charcoal sketchers out of business! - Rick Wolff
Actually, some of the "enhanced" pictures look distorted. Symmetry is supposedly a vital ingredient of beauty, that and the golden ratio. - Patrick Beard via twhirl
Thank you very much Mustafa, I don't have an iPhone yet, but when my contract ends 2009, April at very least! This tool seem to be awesome and like I see at your posterous - it works very well! Thanks for the hint!! - Christian Weber-Detjens
"More processing power has always meant more realistic visuals. However, there's another trick: a globe-shaped room that feature rapid high-definition photography from all angles. These cameras can capture surface detail to a level that surpasses human touch. These cameras operate so quickly that to the naked eye, they appear as solid lights, when in fact they are flashing on and off at fractions of a second. The information captured by these cameras can then be interpreted into 3D data." - Mustafa K. Isik via Bookmarklet

Georgia does have a certain degree of geo-political value after all. - Mustafa K. Isik
that was the only reason to destroy the port city. this city is not in the 2 separatist-areas. the game of power is not different or more complex then children playing...the difference is just that people are dieing.political decisions always boil down to the question of how much pain you are willing to risk. we can blame russia we can blame georgia. they have the same interest in the area but not the same power. suicidal people and murderers both dont value life - krz9000
