Do Your Values Help You Accept Pain? - http://www.howtocopewithpain.org/blog...
"Thanx for the advocacy w/needed realism. I consider myself a realistic optimist for, tho’ I know a positive attitude helps, that optimism isn’t sustainable w/out honesty. Chronic pain (as opposed to how pain was designed to work) isn’t my friend but my body is & we need to fight this affliction together. Diet & psychology are both contributing factors to pain levels yet, for many of us, the pain is more far-reaching than anything we may or may not be doing. Thus, whether we’re in pain canNOT be the focus (too many of us always have been & don’t know anything else); instead, it really is a question of whether we’ll be defined by it or – worse yet – give in to it. That’s what IS in our control. I may >_< but will still ^_^! "Today would have been G’ma’s 86th birthday.. I’m trying to set aside my sadness in order to be just a little extra silly in her honor as she well understood the power of a smile. Those smiles will see us thru our current transition while we seek an apartment in San Francisco & make what just may be our final major life change. I know she’d be proud of us for not only following our hearts but moving back near family & she’d especially love that her great granddaughter will be living w/us since she personified the idea of family first in an amazing, welcoming way. I love you G’ma & continue to be inspired by you every day! <3 xox (|_|*to Peg*|_|) “We should all have one person who knows how to bless us despite the evidence, Grandmother was that person to me.” — Phyllis Theroux PS: Be sure to “drink in” Dave’s guest post about my G’ma Peg (via CommentLuv or the previous post link).. "How right you are, on both counts. I do have chemical sensitivities as well thus our need — along w/my need to keep my kitties — to care about more than whether we simply have a roof over our heads. As fucked up as it is for beggars to be choosers, it’d be more fucked up if I got sicker & Dave had a harder time yet searching for work. So, as much as he hated to put this post up, it’s one of the kindest things he could do. Not only is he turning my birthday around but he’s given others, like you, a chance to turn our luck around. His humility & loving-kindness never fail to amaze me which is why I shouldn’t be surprised at the equally amazing people he connects with online. Thank YOU! "Intention & expectation are closely related. As I recently shared at Jeanne’s ChronicHealing.com, a lack of expectation is crucial in our everyday lives as — ill or not — goals can actually undo progress if the focus becomes the end rather than the means. Many fear simple or small goals limit achievement but it’s quite the opposite. Setting more achievable goals frees us up & spurs us on to the next goal & each one thereafter which are now more achievable yet. Through purity of focus, not to mention not setting ourselves up to fail, we’re able to do what’s needed because we’re not trying to do too much. The real & wonderful irony, of course, being that it’s the simple goals — the baby steps — that lead to huge accomplishments. As you saw on my ‘30 Things’ post, Dannette, letting go has become a favorite pastime. My fascination developed in order to stay somewhat sane (by not dwelling on what I didn’t, couldn’t or shouldn’t do). Thanx so much for your comment, btw, & especially your..." - Dorian |_|)

"Living in the desert, I no longer have Fall colors either, nor any cold weather which is a God-send for my aching bod. However, I can’t help but want to visit my G’dad at the mountain cabin that is our family legacy. Beyond the obvious yen there is to see him, the frosted walks & Quaking Aspen do call. "Having encountered these very assumptions/accusations, I fortunately never doubted God but did give up on church — at least the majority of them here in America — as I couldn’t reconcile most church’s attitudes w/Christ’s. American “Christianity” has become more of a political movement, unfortunately, & not a very compassionate one. Not only does God carry me through my on-going illness but I trust Him to use me in this state of being. In turn, I believe you & Karen wouldn’t have gotten much needed rest had you been healed from the illness that landed you in bed. From the page: "I'm not all that worried about what they're actually going to pass. It's going to be better than the horribly broken system we have today. Once the new law takes effect, I will never have to explain to another person with a chronic illness why there is no insurance for them, even if they can afford to pay. But we all read in our morning papers today that a new poll shows Americans are apprehensive about health insurance reform -- and most of the reasons they are worried are just plain false." - Dorian |_|)

"May you find ways to celebrate Grandpa & honor E’s memories. My grandparents helped raise me too & I lost my G’ma a few months ago so I know the hurt well if not the insult added to injury of not being able to attend the memorial. Our own attendance of my G’ma’s jeopardized us keeping our apartment so life is indeed full of unfair trade-offs. Do hang in there & be sure to have your own memorial of sorts. Every moment's a golden 1 for he who has the vision to recognize it as such.-Henry Miller (if not golden, there's a silver lining) #quote !q
full quote: "Life moves on, whether we act as cowards or heroes. Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such." – Henry Miller - Dorian |_|)

"There's reason to hope for the 21st century. And that's the way it will be." -Walter Cronkite #quote from "Cronkite Remembers" in 1996 #RIP
full quote: Well, it was quite a century, the best of times, the worst of times; and as we run down now toward the end of it, we can all recite our litany of despair: overpopulation; pollution; a faltering educational system; the rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer; racial tension; drugs; too many guns. But you know, if there's anything I've learned, it is that we Americans do have a way of rising to the challenges that confront us. Just when it seems we're most divided, we suddenly show a remarkable solidarity. The 20th century may be leaving us with a host of problems, but I've also noted that it does seem darkest before the dawn. There's reason to hope for the 21st century. And that's the way it will be. - Dorian |_|)
