"Beijing Olympic organizers may have a Biblical-level challenge on their hands - a plague of locusts buzzing down from Inner Mongolia, where they've already chewed up 5,000 square miles." [snip] "Unlike other unwanted visitors, the Chinese government can't keep out the winged insects by denying them visas." - Ana via Bookmarklet
well, at least it's only locusts. considering the set of 10 plagues, it could be worse. for example, darkness. (because then no one can see the events!) - eviltom
We'll have to make sure we remember to mark our door with blood. - Ana
Don't the Chinese only allow one child per household? That's kind of a modern twist on the old tale about taking the firstborn...now it's all children except the firstborn! - Colin Wright
"C.S. LEWIS: Finally, a utopia ruled by children and populated by talking animals.
THE WITCH: Hi, I'm a sexually mature woman of power and confidence.
C.S. LEWIS: Ah! Kill it, lion Jesus!" - Kevin Fox
Actually don't underestimate schizophrenia it can get you out of a lot of sticky situations. Just go with it Colin, embrace the inner you. - Steve Craft
the type of adipose stored in the abdomen also tends to be stored in internal organs like the liver, where it can't be removed through surgery, which is another reason apple people tend to have more long-term health problems. but there was a significant association found between low waist-to-hip ratios and higher cognitive function, so women with a lot of weight in their hips might not want to lose that. - Jessie Norris
Isn't it a cool idea? I just heard about it today, so I may have to look through some photos this weekend so I can take a new one to go with it. What about you? :) - Colin Wright
"78 cents to every dollar a man makes" is still a long way from equal pay - Anne Bouey
Definitely, but it is a vast improvement from the 54 cents it was in the mid-20th Century. Hopefully those last 22 cents won't take as long as the first 78! - Colin Wright
Is that stratified by generation? Because I would think the wage gap would be smaller for recent graduates as opposed to for people who started their careers in the 1960's and 70's. - Jessie Norris
@Jessie Only because people who started their careers in the 80s and 90s might not yet be in the upper echelons of their profession. Often the gap in pay rate is much smaller in lower level employment positions than in higher ones (or, alternatively, fewer women are hired to those positions). Even the university I am at now, a major Top 10 Canadian U, suffers from severe gender pay inequity - Amy Tureen
What's just as strange as the 'glass ceiling' that many women deal with today when it comes to promotion and equal treatment in upper-management positions is the 'glass elevator,' in which men that enter women-dominant fields are rushed to the top, regardless of their competency level when compared to their female colleagues. From what I hear, though, there is going to be a major shift in the next ten to twenty years, as more women are getting higher levels of education than men, so we may actually... - Colin Wright
...see this trend reverse rather than level out. - Colin Wright
@Colin I've heard this is a problem in nursing but my mom would have to confirm that. - Jessie Norris
What happened to the original name idea? - Kelly Norris
I had one name related comment, well it's more a logo related comment. The first time I read the name I thought "odd, why would she call her business Georgia?" Then I figured it out - i'm smart like that. But I showed it to someone else and they thought "Odd, what does Georgia have to do with massage?" Ya might consider altering the logo using a different symbol to seperate geo and gia like a slash, or offsetting the words, or using a ying and yang symbol, or a mini-globe. Just a thought but maybe it's just me who sees it as a guess the missing letter game the way it's laid out now. Feel free to completely ignore me though, i'm used to it, i'm married. - Steve Craft
