My wedding tip #3: Schedule the honeymoon to happen at least a week after the wedding. Invariably either the bride and/or groom get sick right after the wedding and going to your honeymoon while sick is totally counterproductive to actually having the honeymoon in the first place.
Tip #2 was Do yourself a favor and hire a wedding planner/manager...even if they only help you on the rehearsal dinner/wedding day. For most people, a wedding will be 10 times more stressful without a knowledgeable planner guiding the process. They know the vendors and what they will and won't do and you don't.
- Alex Scoble
I agree with tips 1 & 2 but tip 3 is based on a premise that doesn't always prove true.
- Akiva Moskovitz
In my experience this happens more often than not...so on the risk equation it is prudent to follow this advice.
- Alex Scoble
from IM
I think this is a good tip. We had a very short local trip right after the wedding, and our honeymoon months later. Worked for us.
- s t e v e
How many times have you been married, son?!
- Akiva Moskovitz
My parents had two honeymoons as well one weekend one right after and then the week long honey moon a couple months later.
- Mathew™ one of a kind
I know far too many people who got sick right after the wedding, Akiva, which is why I followed this advice...well mostly...Also was a factor of when Cassie can get off from school. And yes, I'm dealing with a cold right now. Imagine how much fun Jamaica would NOT be if we were there right now.
- Alex Scoble
Alex, you're right. Happened to me.
- Melanie Reed
After my wedding I took the family that was left and we went to the Jelly Belly Factory.
- CW™
Now that I think about it, it makes sense that people might get sick right after a wedding mainly due to stress more than anything else. Purely anecdotal but interesting enough.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Are you gonna put these on a blog or something? Remember, I'm getting married in like 6 months and this particular tip hit close to home.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I followed #1 but I'm planning to leave for the honeymoon right after the wedding if possible and I doubt I'm hiring a planner. My sister and her husband went on their honeymoon a week after their wedding and he ended up sick the entire time anyway. I hope you get over your cold before your honeymoon, though!
- joey
I've been married twice and no honeymoon either time. Are there any rules about taking a honeymoon on your 5th anniversary?
- Sally: baby flier
Our guest list is still in flux. Sis in law was handling the planning, but she's not well. We already have catering+venue locked in, though.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Have fun? Oh and I recommend that you make it 10 days if possible.
- Alex Scoble
from IM
regarding tip #3: Although I think it's wise in general, this would have backfired big time for me. We went on our honeymoon immediately after the wedding and had a great time. The day after we got back, I woke up sicker than I'd ever been before.
- Jim Is Not Smart
It actually wasn't so bad. I recovered, AND I got an extra two days off from work!
- Jim Is Not Smart
And part of #3 should be: Unless it's some place local, don't drink the water. This also means no ice in your drinks, no salad, no fountain sodas, or anything in which the local water supply will get into your body without being sterilized first. You are used to the organisms that are present in your local water supply. What is in a different region may not match what you are used to....

My folks got married during the war (the Big One) and had their honeymoon 5 years later. I went with them. Don't wait too long.
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
Sally, we took our honeymoon fofr our 2nd anniversary.
- Admiral Anika
We vacationed for our 1st anniversary, but I was 6 mos pregnant and we didn't get to have all the fun we'd originally planned. I'm thinking maybe someone can watch Travis for us in a few years so we can do something just the two of us. I'm thinking his FL grandparents can watch him and we'll take a cruise.
- Sally: baby flier
We waited 5 days and had a stay-cation for those days which is as valuable to me as vacation is!
- Rachel Lea Fox
Can there be an addendum for couples that have yet to "get down" before they got married? I don't think they want to wait any longer and a sniffly nose won't mean a whole lot at that stage.
- Jeremy (cropmarks)
Jeremy, even if you're not on your honeymoon quite yet, you can still "get down" on your wedding night!
- Rochelle
I totally agree. I got sick two days into my honeymoon.
- Adam Martin
@Rochelle - good point. At that point, anywhere will do.
- Jeremy (cropmarks)
Our venue provided the most awesome day-of coordinator, I was so thankful to have her, also that we didn't have to drop any extra money hiring an outside person.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Honeymoon! Dammit! I knew I forgot something! Arrrgh!
- Morgan Haley
I don't think I ever said it, so congratulations Alex! And I'm saving these tips for the future.
- Arlan Koizumi
My wife and I did the same. Married on Saturday, back to work for a week. Flew to Hawaii following Saturday. :)
- Louis Gray
US Mail, so they'll leave you in peace for awhile.
- howard shippin
maybe ask someone to build a new service called baby.fm for JUST twitter style messages re: babies. you and louis gray could fill that mofo up!
- drew olanoff
Heheh. No, what happens is if you don't announce it then the family just keeps bugging you until they know what's going on.
- Robert Scoble
i disagree with doing this. but i respect anyone who want to share this publicly :)
- Ouriel Ohayon
i will just wait for the kid's growing up so that he can tweet himself.. kekeh :)
- RICK CHOI
The problem is the family will likely to be the last to know if you use the web... Grandma does not check twitter very often!
- Ben
Definitely Facebook statuses. That's what all my friends did when their baby showed up! :) You kinda don't want the world to know... just the people who know you!
- Jackie
Better yet, on baby.fm, friends and family can follow you and choose how they want the alert.
- drew olanoff
sms to family + twitter. family proceeded to spread rumors on facebook, saving us the trouble.
- Leyla M
Jackie: actually letting the world know last time on Twitter was really great. Lots of people follow us and want to know what's up.
- Robert Scoble
Probably a combination twitter and PicasaWeb.
- Adam Martin
Anyway, looks like the baby has a good chance of coming Saturday.
- Robert Scoble
Drew: baby.fm is a bad URL. Are you sure about that?
- Robert Scoble
Robert, make sure to enjoy the moment!
- Mike Doeff
Mike: the moment is always fun and crazy. Looking at the pictures of Milan I can't believe that was just two years ago. Time is going too fast!
- Robert Scoble
Email Gallery to Posterous >> E V E R Y W H E R E
- Tanner Powell
Robert, I just told Alan Levy, their CEO, to contact you about a new product they're working on that would work well for that.
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: Cinch will have potentially the same problem that twittergram had. How do you know they will still be in business five years from now?
- Robert Scoble
But I do like BlogTalkRadio and hope they do stick around and would love to use them for Ryan's birth.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, it's RSS, and the audio's downloadable. You can back it all up.
- Jesse Stay
Your Google Reader will have backups. So will FriendFeed (assuming it's around)
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: yeah, right. Audio on my hard drive is lame compared to audio on the Internet.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, Google Reader and FriendFeed aren't on your hard drive. :-)
- Jesse Stay
That's the same problem with any company you do something like that with - it's up to you to have backups in place to be sure your data stays around after they go away.
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: quick: find that audio on my Google Reader. You can't. FriendFeed wasn't even in existence when Milan was born. Shows how fast this industry moves.
- Robert Scoble
That's why you've got to add it to your Google Reader, or save it as a backup.
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: what's funny is I rarely use Google Reader today. It's so slow for me that I can't bear to open it up.
- Robert Scoble
It makes a good backup though, and Google will be around for awhile :-)
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: remember Google's Dodgeball? So much for being around for awhile.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, that risk is with everything you do online, which is why you can't use that for an excuse. If you want a backup, put it on disk somewhere, which is what Cinch allows you to do. At least it automates the distribution for you though.
- Jesse Stay
Have Rackspace set up a script that reads the RSS from cinch and stores each file on a backup somewhere. Or trust Cinch to do that. Or do it manually. RSS is the most basic form of distribution so you can do what you want with it.
- Jesse Stay
Note that I have no financial obligation to Cinch - I just like Alan Levy. He took me and Dave Winer to a Mets game while I was out there. :-)
- Jesse Stay
I also like the basic premise - it's nice and open and easy to work with at the very basic level.
- Jesse Stay
Use 'em all - phone calls, sms, Twitter, Facebook, FF, blog post, etc. I'd love to get cards printed up and send them out, but dang, that would get expensive at 55c per card just for postage, plus when do you find time with a newborn in the house?
- Mellissa Claus
Robert: Twitter's not mainstream in SE Asia yet. I've observed that most folks here are still relying on Facebook to reach out. Twitter works great for public figures who engage generously with their followers like yourself, though I wonder if that works as well for career network marketers with 15k+ followers. I don't think most of their followers actually care... I think regional...
- Jackie
Jesse: the thing is if you can't get to your items it doesn't matter that you have them backed up. Everyone's Tweets are still online, but no one can get to them. Backups won't help.
- Robert Scoble
Robert, you can get them when they come out. Remember your blog? Again, with anything you store it's your responsibility to make sure you get a backup. Also, if you talk to Alan Levy you may like what he's working on - it may solve some of your concerns.
- Jesse Stay
FWIW I lost the first cries of my baby as well - need to ask Alan if they still have backups. I was stupid for not downloading it at the time.
- Jesse Stay
Ustream is extremely hard to backup - I wish they provided RSS like Cinch.
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: oh, that's right, wasn't Twittergram a service of BlogTalkRadio?
- Robert Scoble
twitter of course! Then we'll all know exactly the same time as you! LOL
- Sandra Large
Oh and Ben, this Granny checks twitter all the time!
- Sandra Large
Robert, yeah - they did Twittergram, and are now shifting that focus to Cinch in a much less platform-reliant manner
- Jesse Stay
Jesse: can you ask them about Twittergram? It would be nice to get that MP3 out of the system.
- Robert Scoble
Use the oral/aural tradition. Write a poem or a song. Play, speak or sing it. Record it. Publish it everywhere, everyway. It will be heard and remembered. The media will not be the message. The message will be the message.
- David Newman
from iPhone
David: If I were a poet or a songwriter, that's what I would do. I'm not. But I can take video, shoot pictures, and write. So that's what I'll do.
- Robert Scoble
The local paper, to be sure that the baby can survive Birthers when he's up for the presidency.
- Kevin Fox
Robert yeah - thanks for reminding me btw. I want to get my baby's first cries out of there as well. :-) I'll ask Alan.
- Jesse Stay
I forgot to get a copy of the local paper for our last baby. I was too focused online. He'll be the only one of our kids without one. I keep kicking myself for that!
- Jesse Stay
think we need an online countdown.. whats the predictions?
- Tyson
Tyson, @maryamie held a contest among our close friends. Most of them thought it would happen next week. Ryan's due date is September 26th. But looks like it might happen Saturday. They are pulling us in for a procedure and they said it will probably start the process on Saturday. We will know by noon on Saturday, though, what's up.
- Robert Scoble
Tyson: and Milan's initials are MS and his middle name is William, same as Gates' first name (and my dad's). So how's that for geekdom! :-)
- Robert Scoble
That is a classic! Funny, one of the companies in our group is Geekdom.. Mate, your children more than anyones deserve the honour thats for sure!
- Tyson
thinks.. *probably should settle down and have kids soon* with all this talk.. looking forward to popping the champer's when it happens! - for you that is..
- Tyson
Its cool that Ryan will be able to read all this one day too.. conversations about him before he was even born. Hey Ryan! :)
- Tyson
Tyson: I doubt this conversation will last online until he's old enough to care about looking back.
- Robert Scoble
it is perhaps that i am developing a luddite side but it seems such a strange question to ask - put it in one place and it will cascade naturally everywhere anyway, and I imagine you'll be busy with real in person things... PS: or make someone's day and use a service you dont use much or havent used yet...
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
That's interesting Robert, why wouldn't it? Facebook gobble it up and wipe it out? or maybe we just won't communicate this way anymore or maybe the "browsers" won't even read this site?
- Tyson
from BuddyFeed
I think one day he will look through this.. If he can.
- Tyson
from BuddyFeed
Don't say a thing online. Tell your friends and see how long it takes to 'leak' online.
- Andrew Leyden
@qik & a Flip camera? Qik will go to Youtube automatically, tell twitter/fb/ff. Flip for higher quality and backup? photos - send it to @pixelpipe :-)
- Courtney Engle
Robert, you should check out Cinch again. www.cinchcast.com I can get you the iphone app pre release but it works on your mobile phone as well. The app can add photo's and text to your audio file.
- alan
When our sonwas born two months ago, I used thisMoment.com for photo and video which in turn sent updates to Twitter, ff, facebook. Now? I would probably just email them to posterous and have posterous do notices to keep it simple.
- Brett G

Shepherds have been known to be used. For my own kids, we called some by phone then emailed the balance of people. Of course I eagerly updated the baby pool website (http://bebepool.com <--100% bias for me to mention that, btw) to see whose predications were closest. But, all of these are old school methods, I'm sure you'll come up with something creative. :)
- Micah Wittman
I used TwitPic (via PockeTwit on my PDA) to announce Tim Mackaaij - http://twitter.com/mackaai... while my homepage was temporary a realtime embed of FriendFeed. I showed a room which also imported my @mentions. On a seperate page I chose to show only tweets by me using this Yahoo Pipe http://bit.ly/3EDpa (which was not imported realtime by FriendFeed). If I had to do it over I'd look into a mobile client for FriendFeed and use that solely.
- Patrick Mackaaij
Congratulations Robert... may God bless you and yours : )
- Mark Harai
We only have one. We have tons of LCDs hooked up to various things, but only one actual TV (an LCD) that's hooked into cable/Xbox/AppleTV(currently broken)/wii/etc
- Chrimmus Tad
from fftogo
2; 1 CRT (in my bedroom, hooked up to the PS2 so I can watch movies and game) & LCD HDTV that I use mostly as a computer monitor, watch movies and to play Xbox or Wii.
- Admiral Anika
2 I use bedroom and living room LCD and Plasma both HD. 1 in computer/guest room Sony Wega too damn heavy to ever move again (not used), and one in guest room 19" college aged TV(used by guests duh!).
- Berial
We have a Sony Wega too. It's out in our garage, and I don't even want to sell it because of the possibility that I might have to help someone pick it up. That damn thing nearly killed us getting it down the stairs in our old apartment. Well, that, and who the hell would buy one? Maybe I could get $50 for it. Maybe.
- Chrimmus Tad
from fftogo
Dang Carl, I wanna know what you do with that too!!
- Chrimmus Tad
from fftogo
3 are test units (I work for tivo) and 2 are mine, 2 hooked to tv, 3 just running and recording and I transfer shows as needed to the "main" tivo

That's cool Carl! Any juicy Tivo upcoming news you can share with us? I've been a happy Tivo user since 1999.
- Chrimmus Tad

Tad - I can't even get some of my luddite family to take the Wega off my hands. What a sad way for $800 to end.
- Berial
Tad - not at her house no. Not sure she wants the behemoth either though. I'll ask her this weekend. But how do I move it to her van? <shivers>
- Berial
let's see, 1..2..3..4..5! Basic cable no HD. hey you kids, get off my lawn!

- Soup
One, and it's the best TV that Phil G could find!
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Although now I really want to get rid of it so that I could also have something to be proud of.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Only one, an older CRT recently acquired to replace the 5" black & white that we couldn't hook the DTA box up to. My husband is the one that watches it, as he's the only person in the house that still watches TV.
- April Russo (app103)
Have one TV that is used most days. I have a small TV my my office which I use to watch DVDs (there is no TV signal in this room).
- Kol Tregaskes
One. A 1994-era 27-inch Sony I no longer watch (wife and son hooked it up to a Wii).
- Victor Panlilio
We have one we use for watching TV, and one in the garage/man cave that is just used for video games and the occasional DVD (though we plan to hook it up to the cable soon so he can watch basketball in there too). Neither are HD.
- Shannon Jiménez
1 HD in living room, weaned us off falling asleep to a TV. Much better sleep now
- Rasmus Lauridsen
I don't have any television in my house.

Ok. This is just weird. What makes you think that this is a good idea?

I can't say "stay away" necessarily: FF needs new people if it's going to survive. I just have to face the fact that I might have to change how I use the service to get through the influx of new people.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Great.. I don't want FF to turn in to twitter. :(
- Johnny
At worst, the sheeple will open a whole bunch of new accounts, and then half (or more) will never really use the service. Just like Twitter.
- CAJ, somewhere else
Ha true. I'm not looking forward to gaining 10-20 followers a day (50% of them being porn/spam)
- Johnny
Johnny: I've been gaining about 1,000 new followers a week here in friendfeed and have been at that pace for weeks. It's just a matter of time before the mainstream shows up.
- Robert Scoble
Ummm... FF can't possibly turn into another twitter. It's awful easy to get rid of any marketer or spammer, etc. Noise is much easier to manage here than on our poor "slow" cousin site.
- Chrimmus Tad
Tad - What would you say makes the difference between getting rid of spammers here on FF as compared to Twitter? I don't see it.
- Mitch
Robert: I know the "masses" will eventually flock to FriendFeed, but like we have discussed before, its just sad to come to that realization
- Johnny
Mitch, once I block them, they Are gone from everything. Search, threads etc. Spam on Twitter still shows up in search
- Johnny Worthington
Johnny: That's interesting, I didn't know that. I feel a lot better about spammers on FF now! :)
- Johnny
FriendFeed is going mainstream :) No wonder I keep seeing white bubbles
- Nicholas James
Learn to use Block and to delete comments on your own items. FriendFeed is already set up for decentralized spam-fighting with those two features. We're just not used to having to use them. If we hit back hard when the spam influx comes, they'll give up. They aren't stupid, just greedy.
- Bruce Lewis
brlewis - While it's true that we have our own spam-fighting tools, if spam makes FriendFeed a chore it's going to lose a lot of users.
- Mitch
from IM
I haven't seen spam be much of a problem on FF yet. If it does become a problem, I think a public feed should have the option to only allow subscribers to comment on threads.
- Cristo
Luckily, Mitch, it's super easy to deal with spam on FF. Report the user here http://friendfeed.com/friendf... and then block the user so you never have to see them. It works a charm, and the FF staff is very quick to remove spam accounts.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Well, we can help take care of each other in a way. When you report a spammer to the room, cross post that item to your main feed. That will let everyone that follows you know to block that person so they won't see them while we wait for FF to remove them.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Mitch, I don't think FriendFeed has to be any more of a chore than email, and will probably continue to be less. In some ways growth will make it less of a chore. When ten users block an account, you won't need to report to any spam room, for example.
- Bruce Lewis
Bruce - Agreed. If FriendFeed can come up with an algorithm as effective as Gmail's I'll be in heaven.
- Mitch
Bring it! We're ready! Block rocks on FF -they can't see you, you can't see them. :) Deleting comments is awesome too (so other's can't see that crap too!!) More peeps is better peeps in this case I think. Why let Twitter have all the fun?
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
At least it's not a FriendFeed name drop in the Twilight saga (a la xkcd, a week or so ago).
- Brian Chang
Stay alert, people. Welcome those who bring something authentic to the table, cut off the spammers/noise-makers. Vigilance :)
- Micah Wittman
I don't understand why people would be afraid of more people. You've been on a new service for a couple of months and all of a sudden it's "yours". Anyway, use your lists wisely and you can follow many many people. Threaded and likeable comments would be nice of there were to be a lot more people here.
- TobiasVerhoog.com
Tobias: because we know that more noise comes with more people. Twitter today is far less interesting and far less personal than it was when it was smaller.
- Robert Scoble
Also, early adopters are far more engaged than late adopters and we like being around passionate people, not around folks who aren't engaged.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: I'm not engaged, I don't plan on getting married for a while yet. Oh... I see... engaged :).
- Daniel Rowley
I agree new people will bring noise, but you follow about 25k people here and still seem to make something out of it with hiding the right entries and lists. So I guess the other people in this thread could manage some more subscriptions.
- TobiasVerhoog.com
Let's hide and stay quiet ... but then again for useful shares there's always space.
- Peter van Teeseling
I'm not worried. FriendFeed is not Twitter. Twitter has no friend management. Has no private rooms. Doesn't have likes and the filtering system it affords. These all will keep FriendFeed interesting for years, even as the celebrities and marketers show up.
- Robert Scoble
so IM notifications are coming in as they happen; browser is still holding queued items
- Peter van Teeseling
from IM
Alright, let's make a huge private group with everybody in it that is on friendfeed right now.... (Totally agree with Robert on that last point btw.)
- TobiasVerhoog.com
I almost agree with Tobias above, except that I have already blocked a number of spammers here on FriendFeed.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I would think that media professionals would want to camp on friendfeed for extended collaboration on emerging news topics.
- Dave
I would think you're totally right Dave. It's a great venue for doing just that.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
My nephew wants to play Xbox. I'm watching Iranian news. I told him he can't have the TV. "When can I have the TV?" he asked. I answered "when the Iranian government gives up." He answered "the government will never give up." Smart kid. :-)
Hay this could be a the base story for hollywood remake of Battle Royle http://www.imdb.com/title... - U.S. & E.U. freedom fighting teens invade Iran to save teens there all covered by a evil 24-hour news channel

He's likely right, and thus they will have to be removed.

well done. I quit 10 years ago, best thing i ever did, worth persevering at.
- Ken Power

congratulations, my mother died at 42, she was a smoker, thats my next birthday. I've never smoked, never understood why anyone did. And my mom's death showed me that it was not a good idea to even start.

I recently restarted smoking after I got layed off. I think perhaps it's time to quit again. What did you use to help, Dave?
- Scott Ohlemacher
Like Scott, I am also a 100% former quitter. The patch just isn't doing enough for me. Your words of advice and/or encouragement would be appreciated...
- Victor Kamutzki
Scott: Dave's doctor told him "quit or die." That was about all the help Dave needed.
- Robert Scoble
congrats! I quit almost 4 years ago.....
- Gordon Corte
Been reformed for three years now. It's still hard, but definitely worth it. Good luck staying smoke free.
- David Imielski
Scoble is right. According to the guy who fixed my heart, I would now be dead for four years if I hadn't quit. The moment he told me the story is the moment I became a non-smoker. http://archive.scripting.com/2004...
- Dave Winer
Dave: I'm glad you quit. Here's to another seven great more years!

Dave, your Madtown pals are proud of you. You are leading by example, again, as usual. Congrats and cheers.
- Dave Martin
I forget what Leo was quoting, but he said it take 10,000 hours to truely master something, so obviously Mr. Winer has been practicing not-smoking for 10,000 hours
- Matthew DeVries
I am very much considering it, but money's tight! :|
- Geoff Schultz
No, as it would cost me way too much now as I bought the 3G a year ago. Disappointed. :(
- Steve de Mena
Nope, mid contract and way too much for the upgrade
- Tom Searing

yes, but waiting for the Jul 11 anniversary when I bought it to make the switch. otherwise iphone 3G S will cost too much
- Ernie Oporto
from twhirl
Nope, because AT&T's non-qualified upgrade is too harsh. If I could upgrade the 3G I bought in January for $199, then I might consider it.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Nope. The UK upgrade path is crazy for current 3G owners. :(
- Aaron Dyer
from Alert Thingy
yes absolutely. i am still using the original iPhone, which I have to say still works great for being two years old. I didn't see that much of an advantage to upgrading when the first 3G came out, but now there seems to be enough new features that it makes it worth it.
- Jennifer
@Jandy AT&T's upgrade policy is no different than any other cell carrier's policy, in making you wait 2 years before upgrading for a greatly reduced price. I am excited that they're subsidizing at all actually; when I bought my original iPhone there wasn't any subsidizing and I paid full-price *and* was locked into a 2-year contract. If you ask me, their policy now is a lot better than it was then.
- Jennifer
Just got my 3G for work going to try to upgrade. Not to fussed though.
- Jason Remnant
I would buy it now if I was upgrade eligible. Oh well, gotta wait until December. We'll see if it is a big deal. Personally I wouldn't want 3Gers to comfy, and get 'em while the upgrade itch is hot.
- sailorj
No because they aren't available with Verizon :(
- Adam Martin
No. Will wait for the next iphone when my two year contract comes up for renewal. iPhone 3GS features and price are not worth it for me.
- Carlos
Yes. I have a first gen iPhone, the better battery life, autofocus camera, video, gps and compass are enough & being faster also
- Shannon Clark
No. Like many others, I'm mid contract. I'd pay $299 for the update, but not $399 or $499 depending on the model.
- Michael Groner
upgrade price not worth it for features i get with quickpwn
- Tyler Gillies
from email
Tyler - you are just flat out wrong. A jailbroken iPhone won't have: autofocus camera (of higher quality), builtin compass, be ready for next gen data networks (up to 7mps), have a faster processor & better battery. I'm upgrading from a 1st gen so the diff is big if I had a 3G it might be closer
- Shannon Clark
i was mostly using hyperbole. those features just aren't worth the upgrade price to me.
- Tyler Gillies
Just checked, I have to wait until February. Aarrrgh!
- Paul Ring
Not available on my provider, another year on contract. Also starting a new job, so will probably get a company mobile (Crackberry). So probably not getting one any time soon.
- David Wright
from twhirl
Data plans for AT&T are still keeping me from getting into smartphone craze...yet I may be cheap.
- Manuel Mas
Here in the UK if you have the existing Iphone 3G you probably have at least 6 months of contract to run - bit of a rollercoaster - June 19th then damn January 2010 :(
- David W
Still no pricing here. T-Mobile haven't updated their tariffs, you can arrange to be notified on the 19th though... :-S
- David Wright
from twhirl
I preordered a 3GS last night from the online apple store. I still have a first ten phone, so thankfully I qualified for the lower pricing.
- Beau Liening
Yes, but when I can get the subsidized price (December)
- Martin Johnson
definitely not before the contract renewal is possible and who knows how I will feel about it then..
- David W
@Jennifer, I know, and I agree that the initial iPhone customers got screwed, too. But just because it's an industry standard doesn't mean I have to agree with it or like it. I haven't jailbroken because I was hoping to get a new handset with video support, but I may jailbreak instead in the meantime and pick up the new handset when my contract is up.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Planning to!! Features that are going to stay for a while from now. The problem in India is the price tag (31 & 36 grands). Looking forward to get one from the US. But then AT&T sucks there :O
- Praveen Vasudev
No - bad working out by o2 with regard to current 3g owners and the length of their contracts. I'm guessing they know hardcore Apple fans will buy out the remainder of their contract to get the new phone. That, I'm not going to do. I don't have £464 upfront to end my current contract and purchase the new handset.
- Charlotte M
It is really irritating me how much people are complaining about this. No one cared about their 2 year contract when the only thing to look forward to was a $30 flip phone. Maybe contracts are a dumb idea but that's the way it is. Get over it. You just received a subsidized phone a year ago. What makes you think you deserve one every single year? It's nothing that they're doing to...

- Jennifer
already brought 16G 3Gs set for delivery purchased it as soon as the Apple store opened back up
- Kim Landwehr
In 6 months or so. O2 have the same idiotic plan as AT&T. It would cost me a fortune to cancel and then sign a new contract.
- Roberto Bonini
Yes, my Blackberry/Verizon contract is up, and I've heard people love At&T so I'm switching.
- Greg Birch
Nope. I just purchased my 3G in November. I'll wait and see what Apple comes up with in the next 18 months to replace mine when my contract expires.
- Bryan Clark
AT&T sucks, and I am not willing to allow Apple to decide what applications can be put on my phone
- Chad Albert
I like AT&T but, I sure don't like their iPhone plan. Might get me a G1 or another HTC product that will take android.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Unfortunately, I just bought two iPhone 3Gs....so I'm going to wait a while. It seems every time I purchase an Apple product, they drop the price soon thereafter. Which is okay -- since I'm willing to overpay for Apple products but not pay discount for anything Microsoft at this point.
- Curt Mercadante
Nope - N97 unlocked for me. Even at ~$600 it's cheaper than the Iphone. Plus better camera, physical keyboard, FM transmitter, etc etc
- Mark Zip
I've been waiting to buy an iPhone and plan to make the 3GS my first one.
- Herb Hernandez
nope. 3G with 3.0 OS is good enough for me.
- Johnny
from fftogo
Not unless AT&T waives their STUPID $200 loyal customer tax
- Graphic Makeovers
I'm getting the new iPhone 3GS because I have been delaying my buy decision for new cellphone waiting for Apple to drops it's new iPhone

Arrington was quite a jerk on this show. the "What are you going to do about it" line was right out of Jr. High.
- Jeff Jones
I liked Leo before, but now I respect him even more! Good for you not taking any shit from Arrington, Leo. If he knew you at all, he'd know you buy nearly everything you review. I've lost lots of respect for Arrington here--what a playground bully. I love that Leo just shut 'em all down! Thanks for sharing, Kevin, great stuff. I hope Leo has no regrets, because there should be none.
- Paul Salzman
I've never understood why Kevin, Leo, or any other well known technology people ever give a douchebag like Arrington the time of day.
- Chris Luckhardt
Leo : once again you've showed there are people we trust and follow (i.e you) and those who can't. Have been following and trusting you a long time, and will do more than ever now.
- arnaudt
Leo had every right to tell that guy to shove it. Mike was questioning Leo's integrity, in an irritating and cowardly manner to boot! What self-respecting journalist wouldn't, and shouldn't, react similarly?
- Ryan Shepherd
I've sometimes had a hard time reading arrington's articles on TechCrunch. They seemed to have tone that I couldn't really like. This little bit kind of solidified that thought and feeling about him.
- Robert de Castro
That was awesome! Leo, your integrity has always been top notch and you shouldn't let anybody question or tarnish it! Keep up the awesome work!
- Sean Simkins
What an arrogant ass. Way to stick it to him, Leo!
- Shawn Poulson
This is first time i've seen him like this. But he was correct in his stand, a review unit can't really influence such a decision.
- Abhishek
Arrington is a jerk. Leo is a class act all the way. SCREW YOU Arrington. your blog sucks anyway.
- Rustic Thoughts
Leo has always been a man of integrity and surely has earned the right to give Arrington directions to Hell, when having his honor questioned. You go, Leo! --- Regular TWiT podcast, er . . . netcast listener, La-Tonia Denise Willis in Seattle
- PODFICTIONONLINE
Is it just me or techcrunch.com has this unexplainable air of unpleasentness in their posts?
- Alpay Erturkmen
Caroline: if you have digg fed into friendfeed then when you digg a story it comes over to friendfeed - kevin didn't post it if you go to the digg story you can find out who did - he even beat the creator of the video which is pretty impressive
- Chris Heath
I don't really know who is right, but I don't think that it's unreasonable to disclose that you were given something for free when making a recommendation about it. As matter of a fact, not disclosing it makes me question a persons integrity.
- Ron Hagenhoff
it wasn't FREE it was a 7-day review unit that he only asked for because he couldn't go wait in line for one. it was launched on saturday and leo does the radio show on saturday - therefore he reluctantly asked for a review unit - does that make sense?
- Chris Heath
Well since it wasn't free why get so angry? Arrington asked for Leo to make it clear to everyone that the unit was free. Wasn't free end of story. Obviously, there's prior issues between the 2 and I just think that it's weird all these people picking sides.
- Ron Hagenhoff
After watching a 2nd time I realized that Arrington pushed on with the FREE accusation even after Leo had said that the Pre wasn't free, That it was just a 7 day demo unit, and that he was thinking of buying one. My bad! I've heard that Arrington has since apologized though and that's a respectable thing to do.
- Ron Hagenhoff
I watched this about 4 times and wish I could make out what Mike was saying when they all were talking. I applaud Leo for standing up on the show live yet kinda sad to see him this way. I understand why Leo got the review unit. Mike went to far even if he thought Leo was wasn't serious. Edit: This is Mikes post on TechCrunch http://www.techcrunch.com/2009...
- James Reeves
While I like listening to Leo and admire his work, I do not think it is fair to do all this 'Mike' bashing.
- Kevin J Hatton
Sure, Mike apologizes and becomes adult about it now, after realizing once again that he doesn't hold near the audience that Leo does. If the tables were turned, I doubt he'd ever give Leo a second thought. What a turd.
- Fleagle
Can you say "Ooops I better kiss butt before I lose all my readers?"
- Rustic Thoughts
Leo is a bigger man for accepting Arrington's apologies. I still wont read his blog however.
- Rustic Thoughts
I agree. I am not sure why some of these guys give Arrington the time of day. Way to go Leo!
- Adam Martin
I don't understand how anyone would come on a show and blatantly press an integrity issue, valid or not, with the _host_ of the show. That would never end well.
- Shawn Poulson
