Neil Gaiman's 'Sandman' being adapted ... as a TV show (exclusive)
"“The Sandman,” the Neil Gaiman-penned comic book series considered a seminal work in the medium, is in the early stages of being developed into a TV series. Warner Bros. TV is in the midst of acquiring television rights from sister company DC Entertainment and in talks with several writer-producers about adapting the 1990s comic. At the top of the list is Eric Kripke, creator of the CW’s horror-tinged “Supernatural.” “Sandman” told the tale of Morpheus, the Lord of the Dreaming, a deity who personifies dreams. The book began in the horror realm but quickly made its mark in fantasy and mythology as Gaiman introduced the Endless, a group of powerful brothers and sisters named Destiny, Death, Destruction, Despair, Desire and Delirium (as well as Dream). The book helped establish DC’s Vertigo imprint and won several awards. It also was one of the few comics that segued from the comics crowd, entering the intellectual and art worlds, winning over a large non-comics-reading audience, particularly a devoted female following." - RAPatton from Bookmarklet
" Up until a few months ago, DC was in talks with HBO and James Mangold to develop a show minus WBTV’s involvement, but that never coalesced." - RAPatton
This isn't clear to me where they plan to air it, but it needs to be made for HBO, or not made at all - RAPatton
Right now my brain is swinging wildly between glee and depression. ... Maybe I should go audition for Delirium. - Nine
.....I am so jealous of whoever gets to star as Death right now. - Colette
I'm wondering who they cast for Despair. That will be very interesting... - CarlC
Carl, I've always thought Kathy Bates could do despair and and Amanda Palmer do Desire. Death and Dream are the key, those two have to be right. I'd cast the Vampire King of Mississippi as Destiny - RAPatton from iPhone
I love this series immensely. I have all the trades (or "had" until I shared "Season of The Mists" with my little Jaw-juh peach). Still read it through every year or so. I don't have an opinion on HBO picking it up... yet. - MoTO Bott
You're right. Kathy would be a great Depair character. Totally forgot about her...I was thinking Tilda Swindon as desire since she starred in Orlando. Delight role for Kirsten Dunst, but she might be considered too old for this role now... - CarlC
RAP. I think Destruction needs to be a strong character also. Even though he's absent for a good part of the book. I'm thinking Gerard Butler. He'd have the sense of humor. - MoTO Bott
