I just removed the Netflix, Amazon WishList, Goodreads, Digg and Delicious services from my FriendFeed. I was debating removing Last.fm, but I have subscribed to a lot of people just because of common musical tastes. None of this probably matters to people, but I just felt like sharing.
Any reason why you chose to remove those particular services? the only one i have of those is Amazon, but I enjoy people's Netflix lists. - RAPatton
I just wonder why you removed them - Ian May
You know...I removed some items from my feed because of the perception of clutter. But recently, I've been thinking about reinstating them. People complain about noise, but they can block me or stick me in a room. I don't care. This site wasn't created as a conversation tool, it's an aggregator. If I put FF on my blog, I want my readers to see *me*, not part of me because some people here are, "I hide all Twitter/Seesmic/whatever." - Admiral Anika
Add what you like, Anika. People who hide all of Service X won't even see what you've added so it should be a non-issue for them. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I can't even remember the last time that I went to Goodreads, Digg or Delicious, so they were just clutter. The other two simply because I will be removing a bunch of stuff and adding a bunch of stuff and I just didn't want to "overwhelm" the feed with that nonsense. - Derek Coward
When I say clutter, I mean cluttering up MY services. I have a couple of others that I haven't used in a while that I will be deleting as well. - Derek Coward
i tend to hide people's individual "services" that i'm not really interested in observing. i am more interested in people's direct content & participation here on ff though - Cee Bee
I think FF is the most powerful to people when the input is maximized... more members and more feeds from those members. It's up to each user to filter so that they can see and interact with the content they want. That said, I removed my last.fm recently listened tracks because it made it harder for ME to use my own feed the way I want (I can't hide things from myself). - LogEx
Logical: create a private room where you're the only member and bring your last.fm in there. Then you have the option to have it in your home feed or not. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina, it's the "Me" feed that got too cluttered. I do enjoy that some others put all of their listening in their feed, so my challenge is to make my full listening feed optionally available to others within FF (sure, I could make a special room, though public), without cluttering up my own "Me" feed. Maybe I'm missing another option. - LogEx
Stupid blogger: That's a great idea, I attempted to do just that with one of my rooms and the room feed still show up on the main feed. How can I correct that issue. - Larry Lewis
Larry: go to the room in question. There is an option at the top of the room for 'lists'. Click that, and then uncheck the option to have that room in your home feed. You could put it in another list if you want, or leave it off of all lists, meaning you have to visit the room to see the material. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I enjoy the Goodreads and various music lists - It is one of the ways I find interesting new books and music. :) - martha
the advantage of frienfeed's "hide" option is that you can remove a service you don't want to see if it bothers you - instead of removing people who have too much information. The first option of "hide more like this" is "Hide all [service name] entries from [person]". I hide some people's last.fm entries as there were too many - I didnt remove them, I just hid the one service for the one person. I did it with cyrillic entries too, since i cant understand it - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Friendfeed is what each user wants it to be. "Live and let live", and let's see where it all takes us. FF will change with time, and probably a year from now it will not have anything to do with what it is now. At the speed things go today in the net, for all we know next year it may well be dead and we will all be in a new site, that will become "the next best thing". - Jordi Soler
