RealClearPolitics - Obama Clueless on Iran (Charles Krauthammer)
"And where is our president? Afraid of "meddling." Afraid to take sides between the head-breaking, women-shackling exporters of terror -- and the people in the street yearning to breathe free. This from a president who fancies himself the restorer of America's moral standing in the world." - Forrest Cox from Bookmarklet
You gotta love Krauthammer: "[Regime change] would do to Islamism what the collapse of the Soviet Union did to communism -- leave it forever spent and discredited." President Reagan wasn't afraid to "take sides" against communism and look at the great results we got! Obama shows more respect to Iran's murderous leaders than to his own vice president. - Dawn

A list of Great Windows Apps! - TheHenry from Bookmarklet
Some great programs on this list. I would have included Chrome instead of Safari, though. I think Safari for Windows isn't quite ready for prime time yet, neither version 3 nor 4 beta. - Ray Metzen
the fact that you have safari on this list means you have never actually used it for windows - Zach Scott
If you're a blogger, Windows Live Writer is a great free app and one that I'd have on my list - it's a rare gem from Microsoft ... - Patrick Jordan
@Patrick, I have used Live writer, I also agree it is a rare gem from Microsoft. I honestly don't like it though. - TheHenry
You must be smoking if you think Safari's a Top 10 Windows app - LANjackal
Not smoking. BTW I took what all you said, and I changed it to google Chrome. :) - TheHenry
Thanks for the info! - Mike Andric
@Ethan, wavepad is very easy to use, but not free. I agree though, Audacity is great - Techno Todd
Huh, I'd never heard of Update Checker before... Sounds pretty sweet... We'll see how it goes I guess - LarchOye
Looks FOSS heavy. I agree with Chrome and VLC as must haves. What's with the Fruity Safari logo? - Arawak
FileZilla, Notepad too - Vivek Puri
I find the Safari 3 to be a bit more better than the chrome, I didn't like the beta layout of the four though. Something was very un-safariish like. - Faraz Mullick
Faraz, it's probably because they appropriated Google's layout. TBH I actually like Chrome more than Safari, personally. - Chieze Okoye
Didn't like the list, and I don't use most of them. A bit lame. - Özkan Altuner
Hey, its one man's opinion. Don't hate. He amended the Safari recommendation which should give him some breathing room ;). - Arawak
Notice that, of the applications listed, 4 are available as native Linux apps (VLC, Thunderbird, Gimp, Picasa), one is due to be available on Linux (Google Chrome), and 2 address Windows' shortcomings compared to Linux (CCleaner, FileHippo). - Ghodmode from twhirl
that's because you have continuously thanked people or added bullshit comments everytime others have commented. And your alter-ego Techno Todd seems to do the same. Were really not stupid TheHenry - whatever you might think. - Zee.
You missed the best windows app, the logoff button :-) - Keith Bennett from Nambu
Chrome should be there rather than Safari. And Thunderbird is the ugliest mail app I've ever used. Functional for sure, but really, really needs a UI re-write. - Sparky, lurking

To Robert Scoble: Antarctic ice is growing, not melting away http://www.news.com.au/story...
Sorry. Given the last conversation, I couldn't resist. :) http://friendfeed.com/e... - Dawn
I'm still waiting for someone to explain how humans were the cause of the last Ice Age/thaw. All I hear are crickets... - Craig Eddy
When you remember the Global Cooling scare, all this foolishness seems even more foolish - Robert Hafer
net loss of polar ice packs is increasing, we're losing the ice and the permafrost, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to avoid that fact. Your story about (one part of) Antarctica is interesting, but to extrapolate from that into the global situation is incomplete at best. - Anthony Citrano
Anthony: My argument is, and always has been, that it's ALL incomplete. I don't believe we are as smart as we think we are. This planet works in ways we can't even imagine. And when people say, as they often do, that all scientists agree, that's it's now a certainty, etc., etc. ...it simply isn't true. They are only looking at one side. The debate isn't over. I say: Long live the debate!, and quit trying to shut up people who just want more answers, by calling them names and dismissing them as "idiots." - Dawn
We're not as smart as we think we are. I agree. I also agree that name-calling gets us nowhere, but many (most) people are children intellectually. Every high school debate coach worth her salt teaches students about things like ad hominem attacks, straw men, and all that - and how they distract us without moving us forward. But most human beings have no basic grasp of these elementary concepts and it absolutely kills healthy conversation and drives us further apart. - Anthony Citrano
I think it's fair to say it's certain that we're facing fairly dramatic climate change, and that some of the causes are human-centric. But generally speaking we have no way of knowing what the future holds. Predictive models for this are woefully inadequate. However, we should try to be less destructive, in my view, or Mother Earth's immune system is going to kill off the germ infestation called "homo sapiens". ;) - Anthony Citrano
To your other point about "all scientists agree" etc., I'll draw a parallel to an issue near and dear to my heart: US drug policy. I see it as a genocide and a moral crime against individuals and humanity. But good, smart people - even doctors - repeat lies about drugs that help to keep these policies in place. - Anthony Citrano
They don't *know* they are lies, but they've never bothered to check the research objectively, and just assume that what they've been told is true. Repeating "marijuana/ecstasy/LSD/whatever is bad for you" as some kind of certainty does not make it true. Anyway, not to hijack, but I wanted to illustrate that I totally know what you mean and share your frustration. - Anthony Citrano
What worries me is when people decide that non-mainstream views are dangerous and that it's a community service to 'protect' us from them. - Robin Barooah
Agree, Robin. - Anthony Citrano
All good comments, Anthony. Thanks. If I had more time, I'd probably respond to them more fully. Robin, the same can be said for people who decide that mainstream views are dangerous and that it's a community service to protect us from them. :) - Dawn
I'll throw one more thing out, since the two of you, Robin and Anthony, are pleasant to talk to, even though I'm sure I'm more conservative than you are: I believe everybody needs to learn the difference between societal mores and individual values. If we could all do that, it would help everybody SO much, and esp. the country as a whole. For example, it's absurd for people who eat meat... more... - Dawn
This is one of the most level-headed discussions on this particular topic I've seen here. Kudos to you all... - Forrest Cox
Dawn: You're right - I wouldn't want to be 'protected' from mainstream views either :-) - Robin Barooah
Dawn: great point about not judging people for their individual values vs understanding mores - Robin Barooah
I'm pretty conservative, Dawn (by my definition of the word anyway.) But thanks - likewise. :) - Anthony Citrano

So they turned down a gov't loan for private loans that cost the company more, in order to make sure the execs keep getting paid outrageous amounts. It was either southern Syria before the First World War, and then it was a Palestine including Jordan. Iran says Obama's offer to talk shows US failure
"US President Barack Obama's offer to talk to Iran shows that America's policy of "domination" has failed, the government spokesman said on Saturday. wow, they just threw away all the good will they could possibly have earned in talking to the U.S. The sad thing is, I don't really see any other options, despite their rhetoric. Are we to sit around waiting for them to get the bomb? - Zach Landes
Zach: yes we are. Attacking Iran would cause a deep war and we can not afford it anymore. - Robert Scoble
Robert: exactly my point - They can insult us as much as they want and at the end of the day, we're the ones with something to lose and therefore we MUST talk to them. - Zach Landes
Since the Middle East public opinion generally means Jack to the Western countries, all that matters is how the US acts to make anything justifiable or not. If Obama extended his hand and the Iranian government doesn't shake it, they'll just change their status again from victims of Bush persecution to a real threat if they choose to keep on enriching uranium. - Rodrigo Jaroszewski
Can't say we didn't try. - Morton Fox
I'm surprised no one is talking about Iran's latest problem: not enough uranium. (http://bit.ly/DuOk) They are having problems mining enough to keep up their program. Although I don't think it makes them less of a threat, it should help to temper their expectations. - Chris Mayer
You are also missing the fact that he is posturing so his own people do not notice that he is stealing money from his own people to enrich uranium. This program will not bring any benefits to his own people. He is taking resources from them that could be used to provide medical care, better schools, better roads, better Internet, etc and is using them to build a bomb. That is a VERY expensive proposition. So, by making the west out to be a monster he is keeping his people from looking internally at him. - Robert Scoble
@Glen I didn't say they want good will - I said that any chance at good will they might have gained by talking to Obama has already been lost with these statements. - Zach Landes
@Robert: of course, The President of Iran is not in charge of Iran, he is only a confidant of the true ruler and a figurehead. - Zach Landes
All the U.S. administrations since Carter have "talked" to Iran. Some of them have even apologized to Iran. Bush talked to Iran thru back channels. Tick, Talk. Tick, Talk. - Oldengrey (Jay)
Glen, spot on. We'll see how far talking gets us. - Ryan Petty
Ok, so we want to talk, this should be viewed as a good thing. Why be critical of it if this is what they want? No, America's foreign policy hasn't been ideal of late, and our image has been tarnished, but why not welcome this opportunity for positive change without a snarl of indignation? - Jamie Mack
Bigger leaders have said dumber stuff. It doesn't mean anything and any American who hears this being said shouldn't take offense. Of course he's going to say something like this, untrue or not. - Patricia

This is why a lot of Israelis are so nervous. Most of you guys are thousands and thousands of miles away, but we all know where Iran will toss its first nuclear bomb, and I'm not too thrilled at the prospect of being radioactive toast here. - Lisha Sterling from twhirl
Man, if Iran drops a nuke on anyone, they're stuffed. I hope they don't, I don't think they will. - Will Higgins™
Iran won't. They're smarter than that. They know they'll get nuked right back. Ahmadinejad is a tad radical, but he ain't stupid. - Michael Forian
Ryo, the earlier they are stopped ever building a bomb the better/easier. Bush had one approach, Obama will try another. I hope it succeeds. If not, the other options are not pretty. If we can't muster the courage to stop them, Israel will. - Ryan Petty
Ryo so in other words you think everytime Obama screws up it's really just the Republicans fault? LOL if that is what you think Im sorry but that's crazy. - Colide81 (James)
@Dukeswharf, we can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. I don't think for a moment that if we all gave up our weapons that Iran would halt their ambitions. I'm not sure how Obama will convince them, but he is the smartest man in the world ;). - Ryan Petty
