Social Media Snippets - http://scottmeis.com/2010...
"What an honest and pretty awesome post, Scott. I am doing more of this in my new social media manager role and I’ve found that my journalism background and years as a community manager serve me well in the way I do outreach. I have been telling people internally that blogger outreach or connecting with influencers is highly personal. And because of that it is time consuming. So no, it isn’t rocket science, but it requires good research that can guide your approach. I feel that the phrase “blogger outreach” is overused and misunderstood. Keep talking about this. Avoiding the Social Media Pigeonhole - http://altitudebranding.com/2010...
"I think that moving into a social media role after already having an established career in communications, or in my case, journalis will be very beneficial in the long run. It demonstrates your willingness to take risks, try new things and also your interest in becoming a leader in emerging areas. Demonstrated success in different areas/industries shows flexibility and the hope is that you don’t ride any one wave or characterize yourself in such a way that makes you seem like an expert in one area but someone who is knowledgeable in many, based on robust experience. 7 Social Media Behaviors That Won't Win You Customers - http://www.conversationagent.com/2010...
"The lack of coordination resonates with me big time. It is something I am recommending heavily. It's the cart before the horse syndrome. Many brands are on every single network they can find but there is absolutely no integration. Great read, again!" - Angela

Earning Your Stripes for a Social Media Job - http://altitudebranding.com/2010...
"I like the idea of earning your stripes. Doing social media for business is much more difficult than blogging about the idea of doing it or expressing ideas about how it should be done. My 3+ years launching and growing an online community for WRAL.com, writing a book about it and trudging away as a community manager deeply in the trenches is what set me up for my current job as Social Media Manager at Capstrat. And the fact that I have been a journalist for more than 16 years. The skills that you list here are crucial, Amber because this work is so much more than what most people could ever imagine. If you’re interested in the tools alone, that is not enough. And if you do so happen to land a job in social media without some of these skills, you will either grow to despise the work or get weeded out. Nice post." - Angela

Public records request ‘pisses off’ fisherman - http://publicrecordsgeek.wordpress.com/2010...
"Wow. I never thought about marketer's using the Public Records Laws to their advantage. I see how they could do this on a much larger scale with a little bit of thought. Kind of scary, but public is public, I suppose. Heading off to read Mike's post now. Keep up the great blog, Kelly! Angela Connor | @communitygirl" - Angela

"Your blog is always useful to me. No matter what you write about, there is always something in it that resonates. That's what makes you such the gifted writer. Now I have to run upstairs and tell my husband that there are actually pigs that don't know how to have sex. He loves random facts so he will likely share that at work tomorrow. I will too. The Joy and Pain of Taking Risks - http://webworkerdaily.com/2010...
"This post really speaks to me, Dawn. I just accepted a new job as Social Media Manager at a great communications agency in Raleigh and while I am beyond excited about it, it is somewhat of a risk. I take risks by leaving my comfort zone. And when I do it I am always glad I did. Sometimes it isn't obvious that the decision was right. When I left Florida to move to Raleigh it was a huge risk. And the man who hired me left three days after I arrived. But I took that lemon and made super-sweet lemonade. Risk-takers know how to adapt to their environments and make decisions they can stand behind, or even nix, when needed. Good post! Angela Connor @communitygirl" - Angela

Four People Who Will Kill Your Company’s Social Media Efforts - http://microexplosion.com/2010...
"This is a great post and EXACTLY why people with diverse backgrounds and experiences are needed to lead the social media charge for organizations. You need individuals who know how to relate to all four of the people you mention here. Someone with finesse and empathy and who understands their perspectives so they can work on turning them around. Yes, all of these types can kill efforts but they are not going anywhere so I say we learn how to deal with them, speak their language and show and prove. It is never easy to change a culture, but people do it, and those are the people who can get lead the charge. Change agents. People who do not mock these types, but try to work with them and really get to the root of this issues and start from there. The relationships we all talk about building with customers via social media need to be built internally if this is really going to work. Angela Connor @communitygirl" - Angela

Being a community manager in a firestorm- TTU as a case study - http://annmwhite.wordpress.com/2009...
"Hi there. That is actually what community managers are expected to do and should do. I'm glad that you're impressed by it especially since you saw it all taking place, and that is a good thing. But that is the very least the community manager should have done. I would hope there was continued engagement and this person was sharing various opinions up the chain. This is a tough situation and firestorms are definitely made to make or break the community manager. I hope the organization continues to support this individual. I will have to check out the page.Angela Connor Author, '18 Rules of Community Engagement"" - Angela

"What a wonderful comprehensive list of thank you's. I am an avid reader here and have benefited greatly from your content. I should follow your lead and thank people individually for the opportunities afforded me this year as well. As far as what I'm thankful for...the opportunity to publish a book and get so many people supporting it. I'm also thankful for being invited to speak to some really great people about growing online communities and enlightening many who said that most speakers were going over their heads as far as how social media can benefit them. I look forward to reading your content next year. All the best. Angela Connor @communitygirl" - Angela

Online community metrics: numbers you need to pay attention to - http://www.communityspark.com/online-...
"Good advice Martin. This is such an important area and the importance of specific stats can vary from community to community. If it is easy for trolls to create new profiles when they are booted and you don’t ban IP’s for instance, your registration numbers could be skewed. Of 10,000 members, how many could actually be recreated troll ID’s? I pay close attention to the number of blogposts created daily and monthly and the comments and image galleries. I am really trying to increase the number of image galleries and trying various tactics to increase submissions so measuring my success is crucial. Again, great post." - Angela

Before There Was Twitter… - http://notatech.wordpress.com/2009...
"This is interesting. If someone is live tweeting an event and I'm following them, i expect them to be honest. I also am not necessarily expecting them to tell me that the speaker sucks, even if that is the case. Tweet what they are saying that you think sucks and maybe add a comment that you disagree. I think people are live tweeting events for different reasons. You're right...not everyone is a great speaker and that has always been the case. And everyone can have an off day. it is up to attendees to determine if they want to focus on the live tweets streaming at an event they are ACTUALLY attending OR FOCUS ON THE SPEAKER. I think that each speaker should determine on their own how much attention they pay to the feedback, as is the case with any time of reputation monitoring. You decide who offers valid criticism or who you want to hear more from. As an increasing number of speaking engagements started coming my way, i started looking for ways to improve. i started reading Speaker..." - Angela

Facebook isn’t always the answer – 77% of fan pages have fewer than 1,000 fans - http://blog.freshnetworks.com/2009...

"Hi Jeff: I’ve been reading your book for about a month now (sorry so long but I have to read in pieces, at night and I find myself re-reading parts before moving to the next) and reading different perspectives on what Murdoch is doing. I get what you’re saying about winning some and losing some and I completely understand your thoughts on the value that Google brings news sites. I’ve worked for traditional news orgs my entire career and my time at a newspaper in South Florida was pretty telling. I am wondering if you are 100% sure that this is one of those times his bet won’t pay off. On a real non-intellectual level, I think there are people just waiting to watch him make this move so they too can then get out there and follow suit. And peaking of blazing trails, I believe that is what he feels he’s doing. I do enjoy your posts and insight. Angela Connor @communitygirl" - Angela

Thanksgiving drama on steroids: Adding a family business to the mix - http://blog.penelopetrunk.com/2009...
"Amazingly, Penelope I always get something out of your posts that I am not even sure was your intention. This is why your blog is a must-read for me. This statement resonated with me so much that I had to post it as my Facebook status: "the job of families is to keep you in line with the rest of the family, in a predestined path that is good for the family. And your job is to create your own path." Good luck with the farmer's fam!" - Angela
