The 911 call came in at about 12:45 on the afternoon of July 16 and, as The Times has reported, Mr. Gates was arrested, cuffed and about to be led off to jail by 12:51. The charge: angry while black. "Marvin Turrell Grant, the cousin of MC Hammer who makes frequent appearances on A&E’s “Hammertime” TV show, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of raping a woman he met through Twitter. A 40-year old woman claims that the star, known on the show as “Bigg Marv” and “Lyin’ Marv” (and @biggmarv on Twitter), made advances after the pair went on a date. SFGate writes: According to her account, she and Grant had become acquainted days earlier when they began twittering and e-mailing each other. Grant, a regular on the “Hammertime” TV show, told the victim that he was filming in Las Vegas and just had flown into San Francisco International Airport, police said. The alleged victim told police that the two agreed to meet Tuesday at a Livermore hotel. When a satirical Web site called ScrapeTV.com ran a story some weeks ago in which Mr. West, the rapper, appeared to claim the “King of Pop” title for himself after Michael Jackson’s death, a few legitimate media outlets seemed to believe it was a true story. (Among the fake but apparently convincing quotes attributed to Mr. West: “I have nothing but respect for Michael but someone needs to pick up where he left off and there’s nobody better than me to do that. There’s the atmosphere, the design and the environment: everything that locates the experience in a specific place and time. All Points West needs some work in that department. Anyone who has attended Coachella will recognize the pointy tents, the layout and the Burning Man-esque art installations. As I watched Chairlift play on the small Queen of the Valley stage, I looked to my right and saw one of those art works, a grid of electric lights blinking against the tent’s white plastic wall. Something similar was at Cochella this year, and while it looked majestic and mysterious there in the California dusk, it seemed out of place in New Jersey. Yet the more I looked at the lights the more they suggested the flickering nighttime skyline of Manhattan, something they could only do here.
