Retweet @marshallk: Could This Be Your All-in-One Social Network? http://www.readwriteweb.com/archive... re @marccanter4real 's DiSO dashboard proposal
This kind of dashboard is inevitable. I think this is kind of what chi.mp is working on: e.g. http://gazoombo.mp A potential stumbling block I foresee is the addition of granular privacy controls for different activity streams. It's been hard enough getting people on board with the standards we're now calling the "Open Stack." But unless the idea of living publicly catches on outside the crowd of early adopters, we're going to need much better standards for controlling the flow of these activity streams or everyone will just want to stay in the safety of their walled garden networks like Facebook. - Mike English from FriendFeed MT Plugin
Every user will agree on the usefulness of such a tool. Even proprietary platform owners will be delighted to have one more type of output channel for the content of their walled gardens and they'll gladly help. But none of the established players will want to be buried under a layer of meta tools estranging the users from direct interaction with them. The technical infrastructure for the decentralized social web is coming of age, but we'll need to find ways to build up user awareness so that openness becomes a basic requirement. Considering how the large proprietary platform owners seem to consider openness a threat to their business model, gnawing at them will take time. - Jean-Marc Liotier from FriendFeed MT Plugin
This is very interesting to someone (me) that only has a working knowledge of all this social networking integration and using iGoogle "dashboard" idea. As a simple user of all this, does a site such as www.retaggr.com constitute a "dashboard" of sorts? It does seem to aggregate the many sites I belong to, manage my blog RSS feeds, Twitter, Facebook, bookmarking sites, video sites, etc, so does a "dashboard" intend to extend beyond that? In coordination with www.retaggr.com I utilize www.PING.fm to update, or "PingThis" on a blog post, or photo, etc. As I write this, my mind thinks a dashboard could simplify even further what I'm doing to manage updates and "life streams" but what's the final end point and purpose to a dashboard? (That's rhetorical in nature, but I do think about what I need another "dashboard" tool for? :-) Again, I'm a newbie to the whole scene (I'm a mortgage - Ed Bisquera from FriendFeed MT Plugin
As always, the comments have been terrific and I’ve learned about some interesting new services that I've never heard of like Cliqset, socialcatch, socialibrium and retaggr that I am going to play with this afternoon. Unfortunately I can't try chi.mp without a beta code. I need this dashboard too. - Anthony Barba from FriendFeed MT Plugin
