The Problem With FriendFeed(ing): It’s Not Twitter - http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r...
I love that title! I miss Twitter so much right now. - Sarah Perez
"The problem with FriendFeed -- it's getting overrun by twits!" :P - Adam Lasnik
Who's Adam calling a Twit? :) - Charlie Anzman
I think today is the day we all get to know if FF can work has a complete twitter replacement. With so many people using FF to send messages there is no better way to find out. - Gadiel Rivera
it's not, but large amount of tweeple are here as well so I can't see any better place to have chat when twitter is down other than friendfeed - Dobromir Hadzhiev
You make the case in your article that using FF "like Twitter" adds noise. But doesn't FF import a ton of people's tweets already? - Phil G
The difference is, Phil, that you can hide those easily if you don't want to see them. You can't hide the "twitter like" FF direct posts. - Lindsay
Yeah, I thought of this actually Lindsay. I guess I don't have a good counter-argument.. if people post a lot of short FF messages and you are following them, you either have to put up with it or stop following them.. I guess. Actually, is this true? There's no "hide this person's friendfeed entries"? - Phil G
@lindsay good point, but why would u wanna hide FF posts, they aren't duplicates to twits, while the other way around is often true - Dobromir Hadzhiev
You can hide a person's FriendFeed entries just like any other. - Chris Rossini
the problem is some people might use FF as a replacement for twitter AND to share interesting web pages. We can't discriminate which is which yet. - Alejandro
Right, if someone starts doing FriendFeed posts about where they ate lunch or what they ate for lunch or how the traffic is horrible on their commute home or any of the mundane, uninteresting stuff you find the majority of on Twitter then it will get frustrating. I suppose that's what the hide filters are for but, I don't know, it just tarnishes FF. Bound to happen with growth anyway, I suppose. - Lindsay
@Lindsay Bingo! Your last comment sums up what I was getting at. - Corvida
So we should simply petition the FriendFeed devs for a new filter: "Hide useless crap from this friend" .. simple! - Phil G
Well Phil, if we could do that we wouldn't have noise on Friendfeed :) nor this discussion lol - Corvida from Alert Thingy
Yup, Phil. Actually I think it's the same problem we have in general with the firehose of information we're exposed (or expose ourselves) to on a daily basis. The struggle of where to apply our attention will only be resolved once someone develops intelligent agents to filter the bad stuff and alert us to the good stuff. Wish someone would hurry up and make those. That will be the ultimate killer app. Maybe in the meantime we should use Amazon Mechanical Turk. - Lindsay
@Corvida, @Lindsay - hadn't thought of it that way. I think I get your points. - Mark Dykeman
Agreed 100% - Shey, Jamaican of FF
@Corvida, @Lindsay - If someone starts posting about their lunch on FF, I'm likely to either (i) hide their FriendFeed direct posts; or (ii) unsubscribe from them. I like noise and all, but I really don't want to know what you're eating! - Hutch Carpenter
