"Jealous of the easy media management of iTunes, but don't use an iPod/iPhone? Then this is the app for you! </tv announcer voice> Seriously, though. doubleTwist is a great app for managing your music, photos and music and syncing them between your desktop (Mac or Windows) and your Android phone. It also converts videos and music files to compatible formats when syncing to your device (I haven't tested this). Also has Amazon MP3 store integration for easy browsing and purchase of unencumbered audio files. Highly recommended." Thx to Huebel for the share. - sofarsoShawn

Best free Blackberry GTD or productivity apps that keep data on phone; not outside sync on the web?
GTDclouds_1920_wide.jpg
I'm willing to pay a few monies too though ;) - Fulaan
It sounds like you are looking for an app that helps you get things done without syncing to the internet. I feel that misses the mark of why you would get a blackberry or any other smart phone. I myself like the google sync to help sync my calendar on the phone with my google calendar. - John
Yeah, unfortunately I have little choice as to the phone; my parents bought it for me. And I currently have no data plan, so no net sync for me (if I did though; yeah, I'd sync with gCal definitely) - Fulaan
How do you get a blackberry without a dataplan these days? Are you outside the US? I thought all carriers required them now... - Clark Baumgartner 蔵明 馬武刀
I've been using the Tasks app that comes with the phone and just categorizing them by the different GTD categories like Action, Finished, etc...just wondering if there's an app out there that doesn't do any syncing on the net out there - Fulaan

MASTER OF THE OBVIOUS
I would like to utilize my Blackberry as an alternative to my laptop when traveling. I'd like recommendations for software/apps and a keyboard -- or, opinion on whether it's even advisable... more below...
Traveling to my mom's for Thanksgiving where internet access isn't available around the home and no wifi access close by. And besides, holiday travel is hectic enough as it is. Keeping up with a laptop can be a chore. I really only need to do a bit of browsing, have access to my soc nets and some word processing capability. So should I put out the ducets for the full version of On The Go? Any recommendations on keyboards? Any other browsers available? Are there any native apps for FriendFeed? BTW, I just downloaded ubertwitter and it has replace Twitterberry forever. - MASTER OF THE OBVIOUS

Which socnets in particular? & What would you be using the word processing for? ie blogging or otherwise - sofarsoShawn
Blackberry has something called pocket to go. - Xavier Mathews from email
Xavier - It's a curve 8320. And yes Pocket To Go; I mistakenly said "On The Go". sofarsoShawn - mostly FriendFeed, posterous, perhaps Vox. The latter 2 I can update via email. The word processing is for simple docs... short stories, notes/updates to my novel, updates to my blogs. - MASTER OF THE OBVIOUS

I have downloaded ÜberTwitter, but it is not validating my credentials. Keeps saying something about overcapacity, yet I can still tweet online. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue, so that I can start to use it?
Send a support ticket into Ubertwitter folks - they're EXTREMELY responsive and will work with you to get it resolved! - Gankaku
Thanks for that. I have now sent them a message, hopefully they can sort it out. - Toran Shaw

"At yesterday's Blackberry Developer Conference, several companies announced major updates to their applications and services designed for Blackberry smartphones. From Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM) came new geolocation, advertising and push services in addition to other developer tools. Meanwhile, companies like Loopt, eBay, Xobni, and others took the opportunity to show off their latest Blackberry applications as well. RIM Woos Developers With all the news from the event, one thing was clear: RIM desperately wants developers to build for Blackberry and is now actively enticing them with a slew of new offerings designed to win them over. One of the biggest announcements made yesterday involved the launch of new APIs (application programming interfaces) for third-party developers. The APIs offered include a new advertising service, a payments service, location services, and the general availability of Blackberry's own Push service, which had never before been made available... more... - sofarsoShawn from Bookmarklet

Blackberry Curve 2 - Blackberry 9700 to be named Curve 2 (At Verizon)
"From the marketing collaterals that have leaked, it is practically certain that the Blackberry 9700 will be named Curve 2. If you remember the Blackberry 85xx was the initial Curve. But then isn't the Blackberry 8900 the Curve 2? Apparently not... it's not a big deal, but that makes it just a little more confusing. If anything, Blackberry could have called the 8900 Curve 2 and the 9700 the Curve 3G... oh wait, someone else has been using something this." - Shevonne from Bookmarklet

Kindle is coming to the Mac and the BlackBerry
"Just so you don’t, you know, leave your place of work today without this bit of news: Kindle is making an app for Macs and Blackberries. RIM's BlackBerry watch pictured, possibly called 'inPulse?' - http://www.engadget.com/2009...
RIM's BlackBerry watch pictured, possibly called 'inPulse?'
"You might recall that RIM was rumored to be following down Sony Ericsson's path of branded Bluetooth watches to accompany its phones, and now, it looks like we might have the first real renderings of the final product before our eyes. This here wrist candy is possibly called the "inPulse" (not to be confused with Verizon's similarly-named prepaid offering), featuring an OLED display, real-time message preview, and presumably some sort of glanceable caller ID to make needlessly pulling your Tour out of its holster a thing of the past. Interestingly, it seems like the watch isn't being developed in-house -- instead, work has been farmed out to some company dedicated to the BlackBerry aftermarket with an official announcement expected "soon." As far as we know, Sony Ericsson's watches -- which arguably look nicer on account of their analog / digital hybrid design -- haven't been hot sellers, but who knows, maybe RIM's got some neat tricks up its sleeve with this one." - Shevonne from Bookmarklet

RIM Launches Official BlackBerry YouTube Channel! - http://crackberry.com/rim-lau...
"RIM has been utilizing their support forums a lot lately to make announcements and today was no exception. They just posted up some information regarding the official BlackBerry channel on YouTube which appears to be aimed at basic BlackBerry usage. It's a nice tips and tricks option but if you are looking to dig deeper into the workings of your device we suggest using the CrackBerry forums as they cover all ranges of users, be you a new user or an old hat to the way things work. But hey, we may be a little bias. :) By the way, congrats RIM - always good to see you embracing social media. Now just don't go sending yourself any youtube take down notices for no good reason... they're berry annoying! You can visit RIM's youtube channel at youtube.com/blackberry. So what do you think of the vids? Sound off in the comments!" - Shevonne from Bookmarklet

"How long does it take to pump out an TiVo app for BlackBerry? One year, evidently, as RIM and TiVo have just announced the availability of TiVo for BlackBerry. Allowing BlackBerry users with a TiVo set-top box to view their program guide and remotely schedule the recording of their favorite shows, BlackBerry for TiVo sounds pretty great expect for one huge thing: you can’t watch what you’ve recorded. Yeah, yeah, it’s not a big deal to a lot of people, but the fact of the matter is that we’re living in something called the 21st Century, and in this day and age, your app damn well better learn to stream. We’re not saying that we’re abandoning all hope of streaming becoming a possibility in the future, but for now we guess we’re just going to have watch live TV through the Slingbox app. Joy. BlackBerry Social Site Liberated - Following an invite-only period, RIM's ''MyBlackBerry'' opens to all.
"Research In Motion's "MyBlackBerry" community site has finally opened its doors to the millions of BlackBerry enthusiasts in North America. Though the site was initially announced in mid-July, for weeks it would not allow people to register without a special "invitation code." RIM ( RIMM - news - people ) did not specify how to obtain the code, leaving the eager and curious to scour Twitter and online cellphone forums for guidance. (See "BlackBerry Social Network Not So Social.") The site appears to have slowly opened up over the past three days and shares the same mission as before: to be an online gathering place for a wide swath of BlackBerry enthusiasts. An e-mail distributed this week to potential members described MyBlackBerry as a place to connect with other BlackBerry fans, share knowledge about BlackBerrys and learn about the latest applications and accessories. RIM did not respond to a request for comment. New users have already sparked dozens of conversations on subjects... more... - sofarsoShawn from Bookmarklet

A Brief History Of The BlackBerry - The author of ''BlackBerry Planet'' discusses RIM's early days, court battles and the influence of ''Star Trek.'
"BlackBerrys are cult devices, inspiring a kind of slavish devotion perhaps matched only by Apple products. But while Apple's corporate history is familiar to many, no one has written a comprehensive corporate history of Research In Motion, the company behind the iconic BlackBerry. Canadian historian and author Alastair Sweeny is set to release the first such book in September. Called BlackBerry Planet: The Story of Research in Motion and the Little Device that Took the World by Storm, it tracks the evolution of the BlackBerry from RIM co-founder Mike Lazaridis' 1960s childhood to present day. Forbes reached Sweeny at his Ottawa home to discuss Lazaridis' similarity to Steve Jobs, what RIM thinks of his book and why future BlackBerrys may morph into telepathic gadgets he calls "telebrain." Forbes: What inspired you to write a book about RIM, and why do you think no one has written one before? Alastair Sweeny: Corporate history is my passion. I know people at RIM and people who do... more... - sofarsoShawn
