iPhone 3G will not restore - "The iPhone cannot be used with iTunes because the information required for activation could not be obtained from the iPhone. Check that the SIM card is inserted in your iPhone and that it is not PIN-locked." I did, and I even went to AT&T to replace the SIM. Fucked!!!

Have you tried DFU mode? I had this happen to me and it was guessed to be a bad sector on the flash drive. Apple will replace it... they did for me.

Did you do anything *other* than install and remove 3rd party apps on the thing the entire time you've owned it? From what I've witnessed you downloaded and installed every app in the store. Your usage certainly isn't typical. And you really shouldn't be dealing with the AT&T store for an Apple hardware product. For one, the service at Apple is 1000 times better.

You may want to try Leo's fix. Format, start from scratch and then only install Apps from iTunes. Just a suggestion. It worked for most of my friends at school when I told them.

One of the things I would do is delete every app you have on the phone (other than what it came with of course) and start over again from scratch. Go little at a time reintroducing the apps to your phone, until you get to the ones that may be causing trouble. As someone else pointed out, you've been downloading and trying out alot of apps. Many of them have proved buggy. Maybe just start over again and don't put apps back for awhile.

force restore, done by holding home button while connecting the USB end of chord to computer. Before doing this make sure your phone is completely off ( press and hold sleep/wake button until you see "slide to power off") You should be prompted "iTunes has detected nameofiPhone in recovery mode and needs to restore" click ok then restore

i read once that those kinds of games are addictive because they do stimulate two areas of the brain - fighting and exploring - that were highly important in the development of our species and remain stimulate-able today. i love call of duty 4 multiplayer but only allow myself about 30 minutes a day tops, and some days only one round.

I found that WoW polished my analytical and mediation skills but it didn't exactly leave me with a record of performance that I could point to later. As long as your brother exercises daily and socializes outside of the house on a weekly basis he'll be okay.

Yeah, limiting the time in-game is really important, even if the kid's acing school. For me, personally, maintaining great grades would not be enough. I don't find anything at all wrong with regular play. It's play like anything else, but you've got to mix it up. Too much of anything...

lol, I assume responsibility as Anglo-American translator again. The American "biscuit" is, as far as I can tell, something akin to the English scone or the Scots bannock. In the US, biscuits are often served with gravy, in England, they are eaten with cream and jam and a cup of tea by old ladies in seaside tea shops :-). I imagine that in India, the biscuit is the same as in England. In America, this is a cookie. Cookies are eaten by blue monsters with googly eyes.

It really ticks me off. 1.Most of it is an unnecessary waste. 2. I've cut my fingers open on some of it before now. I'm never one for needless litigation, but I'm surprised no-one has sued for injury before now; if a woman can sue for tipping coffee over herself, I'm sure someone could for injury sustained opening some of these things!

Various Linux distros with KDE. Linux is great for my relatively older machines, supports a wide variety of hardware that is no longer supported by other OSes, has much customizability, is great on RAM usage, the KDE desktop is much more usuable than any other I've tried (much more than Explorer), freedom, it has the applications that I love, and so on and so on.

I'm not the world's biggest Twhirl fan by any means. I think they've been completely unresponsive to new development since Seesmic bought it. Before that happened, you could actually get a reply from the developer and updates were frequent. Since then, updates have become far less frequent and I don't know the last time I've had a response to a tweet about issues. But, in Twhirl's defense, it isn't any uglier than any other app available. And you can skin it, so if it's ugly, it's your own fault.

I think it needs some UI improvements as they add services but I think it's very cool, actualoly.

I can't stand it, it is buggy, and for some reason, they display comments in reverse chronological order. It is sub-par, but it the best FF client I have found so far, but that isn't saying much.

The scrolling behavior annoyed the heck out of me, but maybe I missed a magic key combo. I want it to work like Google Reader, where it always scrolls the next item to the top of the window. Twhirl scrolls to the next item that's not completely visible in the window when using the scroll wheel or down arrow. This always threw me off, so I stopped using it. A combined window is also sorely needed. Tabs would be ok but an option for a single view of all services intermixed would be best.

nope. me too. i would assume everybody using windows effectivly (not that that are many people) do not like the interface as it is very counterintuitive to what makes windows fast and efficient to work with.

I agree Thirl needs some extra work, especially when it comes to scrolling in FriendFeed - but I stick to it to give them time to improve it. Hopefully they will until I start to believe all the haters here.

Man, Twhirl is terrible. It won't stay open more than about 5 minutes for me. It never notifies me. Every interface I've seen using Air requires too much relearning. The standard web page interface for FriendFeed works much better.

Yeah, I installed it thinking "Hey, what a great way to keep up with FF" Hell no! It's awful and the scrolling is so jerky! But I do like the notifications...

I'm a fan of Twhirl, but then, I'm biased. I work with Marco (the developer of twhirl) at Seesmic. A number of the issues mentioned here are very frustrating shortfalls of the AIR platform (that we're eager to discover workarounds for.) FWIW, I can tell you that we are very interested in the option for a single window view. I would love to hear any feedback at thomas@seesmic dot com

Thomas, glad to see you here. It's always good to hear from the developer. That used to be a huge plus for Twhirl. But that stopped suddenly when Seesmic bought Twhirl. That's a shame. You're correct in saying that some of the bugs listed here are AIR bugs, over which you have no control. But some of them--the spastic jumping around, for example--are not AIR bugs. They're all Twhirl's. And we haven't heard any explanation and there have been seemingly no attempts to fix it.

Hey Gregory, sorry, the past months have been full of coding work, and I have to admin, my responsiveness to user questions wasn't as good as it should be. Apologies, I'll try to catch up on that. As you mention the jumping windows bug, it is indeed a problem of the AIR platform, not twhirl's. We are trying to find ways to avoid it, and as our tests show, it has become better, but we are not fully able to work around it yet.

That's silly. If you zoom out on the map, it shows the west on the California map, but nothing else on the east coast. If you select New York, it shows Ohio Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New England. Why? What's the point of a google maps mashup if you can't use the map to see all the data? Or why have information for other states on state specific maps?
