Napoleon: Total War for PC | Game review | Technology | guardian.co.uk - http://www.guardian.co.uk/technol...
"With the PC in seemingly terminal decline as a games format, RTSs are just about the last of its native genres and Creative Assembly one of its most important developers. Luckily, there's no sign of that trust being misplaced with Napoleon, the latest instalment in the Total War series." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet

"Since no PC game was in with a shot at the big prize, I felt like honouring the best of them in here. And when I say PC games, I mean it: only PC exclusives are in the running. So no Left 4 Dead 2, Borderlands and Dragon Age, no Batman: Arkham Asylum, DiRT 2 or Modern Warfare 2." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet

"Napoleon: Total War is option three. Befitting the terrifying Frenchman of its name, it's organised, slick and in control. The engine's not just prettier, but smoother. The tutorials flow nicely and leave you more confident and informed. And while there are missing assets in the preview code, I couldn't find a bug. Right now Napoleon plays like the game Empire should have been, and the manic polishing doesn't end at simply fixing Empire's problems." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet

"This is a still (rendered for print) from our new cinematic for "Napoleon: Total War". The game is Published by SEGA and Produced by The Creative Assembly. 8 people over 8 weeks, produced the 80 second movie. The entire job was rendered in Vray, using the new SSS2 skin shader. 3dsmax 2010 was used to be able to take advantage of the Vray&Hair connection, allowing us to render Depth of Field that matched the character. To complete the movie, we enlisted the help of a number of talented people. These included, Image Metrics (Facial Mo-cap), Fransico Cortina (Hair Modelling), Paul Hormis (Scripting), Rendernation (Rendering)." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet

"According to Creative Assembly, what we'll have in the three available campaigns (Italy, the Middle East, pretty much everywhere else), is a distillation of Empire: Total War's 'This Road to Independence' campaign: a narrative and character-driven romp through one of history's most combatative periods, although this time the central character is a man with a natty line in bicorns rather than a fledgling nation. Here, Empire's strengths are to be built upon, its creases ironed, fitting snugly with the studio's revolution/evolution development model." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet

"Feudal Japan, medieval Europe, the Roman republic and 18th century America and the colonies. No band has ever taken in so many countries – or indeed eras – during a world tour, yet these are only a handful of some of the places Creative Assembly has conquered since the Total War series rumbled onto the battlefield almost a decade ago. Now the developer is declaring war once again and this time it's French military leader Napoleon leading the charge. Set in the final years of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th, this latest instalment in the critically acclaimed strategy series will explore the events leading to Napoleon's rise to power through - and beyond, if you play it right – to his eventual defeat at the battle of Waterloo." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet

"The Creative Assembly is a British video game developer established in 1987 by Tim Ansell. Although primarily based in the West Sussex town of Horsham, the Creative Assembly also operates an Australian branch in Fortitude Valley, Queensland. In its early years, the company worked on porting games to DOS from Amiga and ZX Spectrum platforms, later working with Electronic Arts to produce a variety of games under the EA Sports brand. In 1999, the company had sufficient resources to attempt a new and original project, proceeding to develop the strategy computer game Shogun: Total War. Shogun: Total War was highly successful for the Creative Assembly and is regarded as one of the benchmark strategy games. Subsequent titles in the Total War series built on the triumph of Shogun: Total War, increasing the company's critical and commercial success." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet
