I kept looking and looking for the US on this graph. Then Oh! There it is! Holy Crap! Even if you're against health care reform for whatever reason, this is a great visualization of the situation.

As distractions seep into the workplace, it becomes important to try and embrace the right kind of social media (locations and content), so that employees work for the company in those spaces.
- Aaron Crews
Interesting that I found out about this via social media on the Internet rather than seeing it via the internal website.
- Mike Boudreaux
Mike - me, too. I read the article , then got a company email w/ word document attached, then saw it on our internal website.
- Aaron Crews
Oh, and I found your comments through feedly.
- Aaron Crews
And I just saw yours Aaron through my Friendfeed notifier. I saw the David Farr article on our PSS intranet site just yesterday. Things have really changed from when intranet sites were the 2nd most predominant form of internal communications (after email.)

"The accident is being blamed on a boiler failure, Day said... Day said the boiler lost power and went offline Friday and was in the process of being restarted. He said a handful of Valero employees and contractors were part of the team attempting to restart the boiler."
- Mike Boudreaux
from Bookmarklet
The thing in the article that's kind of odd is that it says they don't know why the boiler tripped in the first place.
- Aaron Crews
It is dangerous to guess what kind of boiler controls they are using. However, the fatality was an I&E technician and he was part of team attempting to restart the boiler. Smells like older technology controls without diagnostics and reporting capabilities. They were likely operating from a local control panel instead of a remote control room, which would explain why everyone was in close proximity when the incident occurred. Just guessing...

Though organizations must consider their entire employee population while keeping their strategic collaborative goals in mind, they should pay close attention to their youngest members—they may have some very good ideas.

Rules about slides are rubbish, because they stop you from thinking critically about what — if anything — you need to show in support of the point you want to make.

Social networking creates a new game for law enforcement, and the ethics don't translate directly. It's interesting to see these privacy and permission dilemmas in new media.
- Aaron Crews
Let me know what you think and if I can help with Superfeedr :)
- Julien
True to form, that comment came quickly! I'm trying to sort out the best way to get real-time notifications of posts inside a firewall. Pubsubhubbub won't work because I don't want to send feed contents. I'm looking at RSScloud. That'll ping some service through the firewall, which will notify me (back inside the firewall), and then my client can retrieve the content.
- Aaron Crews
Why don't you want to send the feed contents? Are they authenticated feeds?
- Brett Slatkin
They're generated inside the firewall, so for legal reasons, etc, I want to keep the content in the enterprise.
- Aaron Crews
Another option could be hosting my own private pubsubhub since it's open-source, but I don't know of any good clients that I could use.
- Aaron Crews
PubSubHubbub (and rssCloud) are primarily for doing messaging between two separate providers. It's an integration protocol. If you're entirely behind the firewall, why not use a simple message queueing service like Starling or RabbitMQ?
- Brett Slatkin
Brett - the simple answer is because I didn't know about Starling or RabbitMQ :) Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to look them up.
- Aaron Crews
Well, I guess you find your way;) At superfeedr, we have an XMPP API that passes through firewalls pretty easily, maybe it's worth looking into that direction as well?
- Julien
Julien - that's very interesting. XMPP would work great, too. I am interested in that option. A lot of cool stuff to look into, including the multiuser chat.
- Aaron Crews
Good! Well, you know where to find me if you have any question/problem...
- Julien
Just now getting to this - looks like I can do some fancy things with RabbitMQ, the ejabberd XMPP gateway, and rabbithub (http://github.com/tonyg...).
- Aaron Crews
Yup. Please send an email with more questions (julien@superfeedr.com), I'd be happy to answer!

"This is is for Process Automation professionals that I follow. Right now I can't delete people from lists so it's not perfect, but the concept is to limit it to active, "real" twitter users - that is, no straight RSS feeds, no vendor accounts, just people."
- Aaron Crews
seems simple, but that could be a great model for enterprise KM. We can actually cover all 4 quadrants.

The formal connecting is an established committee w ties to the network. They are charged with formal collection (perhaps gardening crowdsourced information) which bubbles up from informal collection.

Enterprises are plumbed with content repositories, complex workflows and document management systems like SharePoint. But enterprises flourish on Social Business Software, which rapidly transforming how the enterprise operates by emphasizing the value of community, connections and content. Now, with Jive's SharePoint Connector enterprises can unite the power of both Jive Social Business Software and SharePoint to drive business productivity and innovation.

Robert I've used it on a few projects, one was a personal experiment and the other was aggregating pics and vids for a training organization. It was flexible, easy to learn and easy to fix whatever I broke as I messed around with it. Definitely worth a look.
- Jeff Namnum
It's pretty nice and works well as an inside-the-firewall aggregator. The most polished option out there, although there are still a few quirks.
- Aaron Crews
There are always standbys like Fred and Wilma Flinstone or the ketchup and mustard thing. Picking something out of the headlines can work, too - last year my wife and I were Todd and Sarah Palin.
- Aaron Crews
I'll have to try doing the same thing. I haven't used Google Talk on the Blackberry.
- Mike Boudreaux
It works great - just make sure to change the notifications in your BB profile so you don't have your phone buzzing all day. You can set up IM notifications for *just* this room if you want, which is nice.
- Aaron Crews
Great. Another toy for me to play with. Just what I need. :-)

"Nicole, Thanks for the complement! We actually made the letters in Photoshop and then printed out the letters and cut out the circles and everything ourselves. If you're interested in buying one, I would check out Jess at Polkadots and Pirates. She has an Etsy shop where you can buy similar banners. I bet you could get a custom one made to match your theme, too."
