"We didn't really worry about it - we kept the pre-made & wrapped sandwiches in the fridge until just before the party, when we stuffed the bags and put them on the table. The table was indoors."

"I think that's the trouble - the right training depends on the role you take. There's a big difference in the skills needed to become a process control engineer vs a control systems engineer vs an instrumentation or electrical engineer. In general, though, I think you're right in that the best results (and most valuable results) probably come from understanding the process. As control systems get easier to use (or if you have a good systems expert on hand), hopefully the technology gets out of the way and it gets easier to implement and refine control strategies."

Funny how economics are all about incentives. The wrong metrics lead companies down the wrong path. Umair asks a fair question - are we measuring the wrong things to determine value? My guess is yes, but that nothing will change. Stinks because I would love to see the innovation that would come with real incentives to create products that build joy and wisdom and are environmentally sustainable. The fact that so much of our economy is based on transaction costs and manipulating the system is frustrating.

"Pinboard looks promising because you *are* a customer, and they use the delicious API. (bonus: it'll archive your tweets and the (expanded) links from your tweets). Good luck getting that domain name, though. The big problem is that there's not an easy way to simultaneously charge people to be customers and to preserve the value in the aggregation of all those bookmarks and tags. Here's a thought: maybe pinboard (or whatever the delicious alternative is) should be a twitter client."

Interesting thoughts. True, the technology is the novel idea. I think the trick isn't to "not sell" the technology (or even to not lead with technology), it's to adapt the technology to your business (rather than vice versa). This is where open source, low barrier to entry, highly iterative approaches shine. You can shop for the right tool, but it'd better have everything. And if it has everything, you'd better start with (almost) everything turned off.
