I don't buy Twitter's "technical reasons" argument. wouldn't filtering everything take more resources than showing everything?
I think the change likely reduced the number of queries hitting their database servers, which is computationally huge. So it's probably a listener event which does a quick lookup to see if a friend of your friend is your friend, and if not it exits and doesn't generate an extra DB query and additionally doesn't generate extra tweets. Just a guess though. - Chris Brentano
Sounds more to me like someone said, "Can you engineering guys please say this was required 'cause otherwise we're in trouble?" It's like "They made us do it" - Justin Long
I'm guessing the change was rolled into the architecture of the whole series of updates they're doing this week, and would pretty tough to extract and re-implement. It's always surprising how much code I'm able to delete when I "simplify" something. - Matt Miller

Bottled Water Is Still A Scam - http://digg.com/health...
"i don't know if i would be considered an environmentalist, but i support causes that help support a healthy environment, i ride a bike & public transit, and i don't touch bottled water. i carry a plastic water bottle that i refill. i think just because you label someone an 'environmentalist' doesn't make them one. people are knowledgeable of environmental issues to different degrees, and have different habits because of them. there might be plenty of ignorant 'environmentalists' at those concerts today who don't know about the ills of bottled water, but if you took the time to inform people instead of criticizing them you'd do a whole lot more good than sitting around with your thumb up your self-righteous ass." - Chris Brentano
