It is related to US accounting rules - the way they account for the income from the device. The iPhone is a stream, so you can add features. The Touch is a one time purchase, so if you add to it, you have to charge (or account for possible future enhancements when you sell it...). - Richard Smith

I think that Twitter is going to try as hard as it can, and it will suceed, in saying up for WWDC. I think that if Twitter went down at such an inconvenient time for a lot of people, that plenty of people might get that final push to move to Pownce or something. - possible248
