What Steve Gillmor wants is very reasonable, a way to specify the address of the server on the Twitter prefs page in FriendFeed. Identi.ca has implemented the Twitter API so whatever FF says to Twitter can be said to I.ca. Even better, allow hookups to *both*.
Unfortunately our Twitter code isn't as generic as it might seem (it uses the json feed and constructs Twitter Atom-ids, for example). I think we'll just improve our Identi.ca support instead and also generalize that to work with any Laconica service (and anyone else who matches their api).
- Paul Buchheit
Since Identi.ca is a supported service now, can this be extended to support other Laconica servers?
- Mike Chelen
How about Hellotxt and Ping.fm support?
- Kol Tregaskes
Yes, I have the Kensington "Ultra Portable Battery Pack" Model # K38021 (last 6 hours!)
- Susan Beebe
@Simon Wow, it's great! Here's another link of the same pack http://tinyurl.com/66o9b8. I haven't a similar, but I'm an iPhone addicted and often my battery dead after some hours :( I solved my problem using every day an USB charger within my car and unplugging this only when I go out of my car
- Roberto
I don't use GPS localization or iPod player, but I'm always connected on web applications (specially here in FF); this is the use I do. I've seen that these are lithium battery with over-charging protection, very good.
- Roberto
Checking out that Tekzilla ep now, thanks Brian
- Simon Wicks
I have the inCase Power Slider and LOVE it. Yes, it was expensive ($100), but considering that my iPhone was dead by 5PM every night before I got it (I like the internet), the fact that my phone is still at 100% battery at 5PM now made the purchase well worth it. Plus I can finally have my brightness up all the way AND leave my WiFi on all the time. Downsides? It's bulky, but not that bad. I got mine at the Apple Store on 5th Avenue, but here is a link to their website: http://tinyurl.com/64a748
- Brandon Blattner
@Brian Excuse me, your link doesn't work: may you repost it?
- Roberto
Roberto - I mainly just use the internet on mine as well, and it only lasts a few hours if im out and about with my girlfriend and she's shopping, i just play on my phone to pass the time :) The one in the pic i put on is so ugly and bulky! Im after something quick slim (if there is one)
- Simon Wicks
Susan, that could be a pretty good solution, if i could fit it in my pocket with the phone to charge while im not using it. I dont carry a handbag so.... :)
- Simon Wicks
IMHO, is important that an additional battery *detach* the standard battery contacts once inserted, so to have only one battery connected at the same time, otherwise we have two batteries in parallel with a levelling between them. This isn't good for long duration of battery
- Roberto
I have/ recommend the Incase Powerslider...
- Ron Thompson
I was going to get the Incase one, but it would have been too much work dealing with the Griffin iTrip car mount. Plus, thanks to the iTrip, I'm never more than a few minutes away from a power source anyways. Computer charges the phone downstairs and in my office, and I have a charger in the bedroom, and one now in my car. Haven't had a need for an external battery pack since getting the iTrip.
- Michael Collins
from twhirl
The Incase website claims the Powerslider is, "Compatible with USB charging ports that provide 5V at 1A output", but even the USB 3.0 spec only allows for 150mA at 5V. Not going to trust this "hardware" company.

Thanks for all the comments and sugestions peeps! I've never had a thread so popular before. I'm going to go to an Apple store at the weekend i think, see if they will let me try some solutions out before i decide which to buy. I will pass on all my info, and snap some pics too if im successful.
- Simon Wicks
I just purchased the Mili power pack after reading some reviews.
- Tom Parish
I need a retail location for purchasing this in canada ???

i believe there is an automatic upgrade option now in 2.7
- Zee.
from IM
mines not telling me i need to update at the moment. I see the upgrade button, but only asking if i want to reinstall at the moment. I'll try the auto upgrade when it shows up.
- Simon Wicks
Simon get the Automatic Updater plugin. It works not just for WP, but for all your plugins.
- Admiral Anika
It is a WordPress theme from Chris Pirillo.
- Stephen
Anika - Thanks, i'll look into that :)
- Simon Wicks
Hmm I thought they would've fixed the "unknown" categories problem in 2.7 -While making a post, try adding many new categories and sub-categories from within the posts screen - that is just create as many sub categories as you can but dont add the category to the post

"Finally, in March 2008, NIST compared a single-ion mercury transition with a transition in trapped aluminium atoms, obtaining accuracies of just 5 parts in 10^17 - about 1 second in 650 million years (Science, vol 319, p 1808). Caesium's 53-year reign as king of the clocks was over."

"Macs are pretty reliable computers, but that doesn’t mean they’re not vulnerable to user error, accidents, and, in some cases, just plain stupidity. We compile a list of the most common “uh-oh” moments on a Mac and show you how to make them all better--and prevent them from happening in the future."

These are great tips. Definitely bookmarked it just in case. Thanks!

Nice. I'm keeping this around when i get my Mac in a few months.

Would it be possible to pull in friends from other networks (like Socialthing!) without having to create an imaginary friend? This would make FriendFeed complete.
That's not a good idea. Friendfeed is were other people can follow you, not a place for you to use as a feed reader. Your account should be about you, not about other people.
- Peter
and why should be FF account be about me and not about other people ?
- Peter Dawson
Because, that is what friendfeed is. This isn't bloglines.
- Peter
Peter (no last name) - I agree, this is a place to follow others, but this is also a place to make your own. I use imaginary friends as a feed reader daily (http://blog.justinkorn.com/index...). I think the request should be more along the lines of bringing in friends privately (like imaginary friends) without having to manually add them.
- Justin Korn
But isn't that how it is already? I didn't mean for my friends to be brought in and everyone else sees them. No network shares another person's friends without any action from the person themselves. It's just a way to create more discussion, more friends more chances to share something. Option to have it on or off of course.
- Andrew Trinh
@Justin if you use FF as a feedreader you need to take a look a Feedly. Its like an FF that is designed for feedreading. Before them I was on the fence over a 'feedreader' or FF. Now its all Feedly for me! :)
- Roger Kondrat
Importing friends from Flickr and other services is desperately needed
- Kol Tregaskes
+1 to Andrew Trinh idea. FF is used to publish stuff and read stuff from friends. If your friend is on flickr/youtube/etc but not on FF, you have to create the imaginary friend - which is uncomfortable compared to Socialthing!.
- bnoise
either there server is overloaded or Twitter blocked them.
- Jon Price
this is a pretty cool service, they were down to day but they are back up now, I just followed them on twitter and they sent me a direct message with a link analyzing people to follow based on my current friend list, pretty cool
- Kelly Johns
I used it last night. Since I only follow Scoble it recommended the next top 50 bloggers. It also recommended I follow some others that I had blocked.
- Russellreno
bumping due to duplicate - please search for previously posted apps and bump them instead of posting again
- Zee.
I've found it quite useful, but I think perhaps the best way of finding interesting tweeters is to check out who the the people you follow follow: certainly I had a good time doing this today
- Dave Lovely
I don't think this is something that can be constructed solely with logic. Although rules could be written about @replies, the thing is, when someone sends an @reply there is no way to know IF it is truly a response, and WHICH tweet it is responding to. I have been known to use an @reply as my initial way to contact an individual.
- Laura Norvig
I'm trying to use friendfeed as my twitter client and since I can't realy reply to them (I had a custom rss to ego-searchme, but that is not a twitter entry, not allowing me to answer.
- Christian Van Der Henst
With the huge number of FF users who have more than 3-4 blogs it would be awesome if we could point at the blog feed icon and get a short description of each blog in addition to the name/URL.
