"Dom Sagolla, co-creator of Twitter, and founder of the iPhoneDevCamp app training group, agrees that the game has changed, but said that independent developers need to look harder for new opportunities and apply more social media marketing techniques to get their apps noticed."

"What I should have done is hosted a show that taught children how to watch more television. I bet they would have come up with the funding to renew _that_ show." :D Parody at its finest.

My friend at Twitter who once gave me a CSV dump of all 40K tweets, upon me asking him last night if I could get an updated version because of my book, told me that downloading a file with all 47K of my tweets would not be possible since I've tweeted too much. There's no other way to get those tweets. Meaning my life, my experiences and my shares..
They're lost forever! I'll never get them back . Twitter is here to catalogue and share my life with others but it's mostly for archiving for later consumption and i can't do that. what's the use?
- Adam Jackson
You can only go back 5K tweets on Twitter.com/adamjackson. so all of the rest of those are gone forever! It sucks and really makes me wanting to put more on FriendFeed or my blog. I'd pay $999 for a CSV file of all of my tweets on a monthly basis :(
- Adam Jackson
bummer man, but don't dispair. those tweets are not lost, just not retrievable right now! I just ran into a similar issue with help from the team and we both think it's just a matter of time before we can mine that DB again.

Thanks Dom. sorry about being a downer here. I do have faith. I want to pay twitter $99 a month just for having access to unlimited search queries and system data from every user. I'm ready to pay it! You know how I am about owning my own content so I'm simply afraid that my life story is going to be lost to a database error.

https://secure.lifestreambackup.com/setting... does have all of my tweets from June 1st in an XML file w/ status IDs. It's a kick ass service for $25 a year. I recommend it to anyone that wants a 2nd location for their data.

Hi Peter. I just wrote about this in my book. Dave's idea is great but Twitter's limitations on queries makes it completely useless for someone like me with 47K tweets. Plus their completely weird Twitter search result limits (that seem to change with every query) makes it hard as well.
- Adam Jackson
I've thought many times about using something like this. Luckily, lifestreambackup saves things for me starting in June when I signed up for that service.

Sorry to hear you're encountering a road block. I deal with millions of rows and it's a pain in the ass. I can't imagine dealing with over a billion.
- Peter Warnock
Thanks Peter. It's totally fine. I'm just grappling with this time sink + energy dump into a system that currently can't retrieve my data. I know "one day" but I'm just wary of web services.
- Adam Jackson
oh no's! :( Geeze, you think they'd hook you up still. How big can the file be? Grrr...Sorry Adam!
- Adria Richards
It's no big deal Adria. I'm dealing with it by using services that automate the backup process.

Still, says Sagolla, users of Twitter often underestimate its reach. "One hundred and forty characters is just enough space to stay something powerful for good or ill."
