How can I make a graph that looks like this, "tweet density" style, showing time intervals? I have a static data set, so it doesn't need to be fancy.

My data is in csv format (time started, time finished, date) and I'm most familiar with Excel, but sample R code would be OK too. I'd prefer something I can do locally, without installing PHP and a bunch of scripts or graphics libraries.

What I like about the above visualization is that it simplifies data like a histogram but shows trends over time, too.

It should be a series of videos by experts in the fields, lasting anywhere from 6-15 minutes (depending on the age of the kids). All of them should have laptops capable of viewing those videos...
