Group with 100 Random people using the dungeon finder, or use the tool by yourself 25 times
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
What Sean said. I had to bolt, so I just read the letter now, which is almost as good as the Perky Pug itself: "Dear very patient individual, We'd like to recognize your tenacity in running dungeons with people you probably haven't met before. Hopefullly you even showed some rookies the ropes in your pick-up groups. In short, we heard you like pugs. So here's a pug for your pug, so you can pug while you pug. Or something. Hugs. Your friends on the WoW Dev Team"
- Mark Trapp
That's awesome! WANT. Gonna take longer than 25 for me because I don't really want to do one without Tad (at least ONE person I know what to expect from), and sometimes Avynn, so that cuts down on the random people per group... but I WILL HAVE ONE.
- Lindsay
I just hit the 50 mark yesterday. Between having to help guildies with their own heroic runs and wanting to do my own get-a-pug heroics, wow is being a srs killjoy.
- Miriella
Getting to 100 was surprisingly quick: the dungeon finder seems to be especially good at finding people at the same skill/gear level, making most dungeon runs take 15-25 minutes. I pumped out most of the runs in two sessions on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, and a lot of people I was running with were doing it because they signed on a little early for their guild raid night.
- Mark Trapp
The screenshot's too small to tell what's going on... What is "salty?" :D
- Lindsay
Sorry! It didn't transfer over for some reason - I'll repost in a second - Salty is the title you get when you get the "accomplished angler" achievement - in other words, you've spent a stupid amount of time fishing, or gotten really lucky often.
- Miriella
While playing WoW the other night (I'm a noob) I was thinking of this arcade game. Thanks for the memories!!
- jcunwired
It would be hilarious if your character in WoW would shriek and yelp like Dirk does.
- Victor Ganata
When I first tried that game at the arcades, I thought the objective was to get the guy killed because that's all I ever seem to have been able to do. And they were intricate deaths too.
- Arlan Koizumi
So far: amazing instances. The design, artwork, and bosses are all so different and awesome. The collapsing cave was really fun, and all the bits of lore here and there really made it interesting.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I'm at big ole 236!! :D LOL Gonna have to run some more dungeons tonight. Great thing about WoW-Heroes though is that it shows me which instances I should concentrate on. That's awesome.
- Internet's Tad
from fftogo
It will probably be a while until we can do guild runs of Naxx 10 ;) Are you pugging raids already? I hear there's a LFR interface, too....
- Victor Ganata
I pugged the 10 man Naxx daily raid today. Was done in like 20 mins.
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
Nice gearscore! I'd even say you could be good for Ulduar 10 according to wow-heroes. However, are you hit soft capped? Since you're Draenei, you just need 7% due to Heroic Presence (normal hit [soft] cap, which is the goal so your special hits (like Deathstrike) won't have a chance to miss {edited, I initially said dodge} by raid bosses, is 8%). I was going to say you're way over...
- Arlan Koizumi
Looks like you're ready for EoE and 25 OS, too! I just managed to upgrade my DPS set so I can get into H HoL :D I still can't do any of the new heroics. QQ
- Victor Ganata
Victor: New heroics as in the Icecrown 5-mans? Dude, you wanna do the normal versions first. They're insane. But once you get the gear, I'm sure you folks will really enjoy them on Heroic. Challenging as heck, but pretty fun too.
- Arlan Koizumi
Nope I should have screen capped my inspect page...that was all his gear. He tanked the whole instance that way.
- Christian (Simply X)
from email
LOL. Is his shield and mace from ToGC or Uld? This means we could totally do a reg ToC run. Free purples for everybody!
- Victor Ganata
I think he was ToGC Geared. He took a pretty good pounding, but the healer fixed him and he never died. ( I did 2 times. :\ )
- Christian (Simply X)
I guess he wanted to save some money from gear repair? Or just show his toon's ass to your party :D Now that I think about it, this is probably a good way for an overpowered DPS to nerf their damage so they don't pull all the mobs off the tank.
- Victor Ganata
Honestly I take gear off a lot of times when I tank (I am also an over geared, over powered pali tank) so that I get hit harder. Paladins mana is restored when they are healed so if my armor/def/dodge/etc are too high and I am not getting hit (and thus dont need heals) my mana tends to dip down a bit. I tank 5mans/10mans w/o a helm sometimes, with some pilgrim costume items on or in a chefs hat :) -- I know I can tank reg 5man toc w/ most of my armor off.
- Nicholas Kreidberg
Christian, WTB you real unit frames. oUF_Banthis might be a good start. I use oUF_Amnith on my healer and a custom one for my DK. - if oUF seems weird, pitbull would work.
- mjc
They're regular 5-man instances, aren't they?
- Victor Ganata
LOL I automatically assume Heroics now. Yeah we can def do reg. Tomorrow night?
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Heh, I'm down, although I won't be on until 8pm ST
- Victor Ganata
If you haven't been in yet... Oman! It's hella fun. I mean not totally diff, but I like how the instances go. Jaina is just inside the entrance of FoS, and as you go through each one you complete the next step of her quest line. You get a port into the next instance once you finish, so it's super easy to go through all of them. *I just remembered the instance servers were full and I never got into HoR. >.>
- Heather
Also, the new quest help thingie on the map, when you hit M, is super helpful in the instance - it shows you where to go next!
- Miriella
Yeah, the new quest tracking just might make TomTom and Lightheaded obsolete.
- Arlan Koizumi
Heroic Halls of Reflection (5 man) is insane. Forge and Pit was pretty fun, though.
- Arlan Koizumi
from FreshFeed
FlagRSP, cuz I like to roleplay, yo. Omen threat meter. Bartender4 (action bar mod), bagnon, sexymap, shadowed unit frames, gatherer, fubar and some class specific mods like grid and pallypower for my pally, fizzwidget feed-o-matic and rangedisplay for hunter, etc.
- Arlan Koizumi
from FreshFeed
There's no way in hell I'm farming mats without Gatherer. And if I'm tanking, I pretty much need Omen (although it kind of doesn't make sense to me--how do you get more than 100% of aggro?) The other ones I use I could probably survive without.
- Victor Ganata
@Victor, 100% means "all the threat generated by the top target" so 100%+ means "how much threat is required to pull aggro off you" eg. 141% would mean 41% more than you generate
- mjc
@mjc Ah, that makes a lot more sense. I kind of wish there were at least a README file I could look at.
- Victor Ganata
He's so cute!!!! He sits up and begs, he barks, he digs a hole and unburies a bone then the other head fights for the bone, and he rolls over.
- Kamala Whitaker
As I'm doing quests on my lvl 70 alt, I'm no longer seeing the amount of gold earned on the quest turn in...They didn't eliminate granting currency on quest turn ins for lvl's below 80 did they??
gah! I'm not earning gold in addition to experience!! how am I to afford cold weather flying at lvl 77 without earning on quest turnin!?!
- Kamala Whitaker
You should still receive money rewards from quest turn ins. Although if you're doing grey quests, I'm not so sure. But I don't think you're doing grey quests, right? Maybe reload your ui? Do you have any mods that might be affecting the quest unit frames?
- Arlan Koizumi
Specifically I was doing this line of quests: Trust is Earned http://www.wowhead.com/.... Looking at the quest line in Wowhead reveals the following statement: Upon completion of this quest you will gain: * 20100 experience (or a 2 40 compensation at level 80)
- Kamala Whitaker
I suppose the quest never did grant gold....and I never noticed until now where they changed the quest tracking and look and feel of quests overall
- Kamala Whitaker
Huh. I thought that quest chain gave gold. There are some quests that won't give money, but those are usually transitional type quests (e.g. go talk to so and so).
- Arlan Koizumi
Also, if Blizz hasn't changed it, if you get to 77 and don't have enough gold for Cold Weather Flying go to K3 (http://www.wowwiki.com/K3). "Honest" Max can loan you a flying mount which you can use as long as you don't purchase Cold Weather Flying.
- Arlan Koizumi
@ Arlan wow, that's interesting, I didn't know you could "borrow" a mount....I'm going to look for that specifically then. THanks :D
- Kamala Whitaker
Yeah, it's great for when you're grinding and questing the last bit to 80, but don't have quite enough gold for CWF. However, follow the links on that wowwiki page and notice the restrictions on where you can use the loaner.
- Arlan Koizumi
@ Victor that only works if the alt in question is on the same account as the Main ;) Unfortunately in my case I'm working with two different accounts (how else am I going to power level myself through 80 levels...you don't think I'd do it with just the one toon do ya?) and on the account in question I don't actually have any level 80 alts (on that server...)
- Kamala Whitaker
Heh, yeah, I guess that wouldn't work. What do you use for your dual box setup? It's something I've always wanted to try at some point--I do miss the old school cRPGs where you control multiple characters in your party....
- Victor Ganata
@ Victor I use an application called Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) to share my keyboard and mouse between two computers (connected to two monitors on my desktop). Then I play as a "tank+healer" combo where I control my "tank" (I'm using quotes cause I'm using the term tank loosely - basically I can pull this off with any melee and some form of healing combination) and macro...
- Kamala Whitaker
I have a total of 6 accounts (only have 2 active at any given time) and maxed out the number of alts per account on the Uldum server...and have slowly been migrating the alts to the Silvermoon server :D
- Kamala Whitaker
and back to the original topic of this thread - I don't have a problem with gold (LOL) it's the principle of the thing for newer players...it looked like they reduced gold earning for quests and I was looking to see if anyone else noticed this change with patch 3.3.
- Kamala Whitaker
I don't know. Even before 3.3, the amount of gold quests gave you seemed rather paltry. I've probably earned almost all of my gold from the AH and from grinding humanoid mobs.
- Victor Ganata
I've been hearing good things about Verizon's network, but never had a really good reason to switch. I guess I'll be checking them out after all.

From a chocolatier: a really good vanilla butter cream. Mass market: I'm fond of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. My favorite local chocolatier: http://www.debrand.com/

True dark chocolate. Vosges is one awesome fancy brand... And Valentine Runts (which seem to have disappeared, dangit). Bottlecaps, Nerds, and Spree (all non-chewy) are pretty awesome at times, too. And I've become an Australian licorice fiend lately after a lifetime of thinking that I hated licorice. But dark chocolate reigns supreme.

Licorice, followed by Cherry Tangy Taffy and Abba Zabba. And if we're going to name-drop premium chocolates, I would give up sex forever for the white-chocolate-covered maple caramels from Mendocino Chocolate Company. http://www.mendocino-chocolate.com/
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
It would be far easier to ask me what I don't like (since it's a must shorter list), but I'd probably say it's a tie between Skor Bars and really good New Zealand black licorice. But rollos and PB cups really rank up there too.
- Meredith
Bissingers or See's rasberry or vanilla cremes. Or See's maple cremes. Dark, of course. Bissinger's is mostly St. Louis, but they're also online and, I'm told, the house chocolate at Bloomingdales.

Trader Joe's 72% Cacao Dark Chocolate bars (from Belgium)--and at three 1.65oz. (47g) bars for $1.50 or so, they're a cheap indulgence as well. (But my wife--who eats them more than I do--sez "They're not candy, they're dark chocolate." She doesn't do candy.)

I've played on RP WoW servers. They're actually not at all like the picture. It's pretty much the same as other WoW servers, just with fewer assholes and NO really stupid names (because they're against the RP rules).
- Internet's Tad
Not if you report them. I reported TONS of misnamed toons back in the day - and the admins made them change their names.
- Internet's Tad
I've played on an RP server since near launch. The GMs were responsive back in the day before TBC to change names. Not so much nowadays. It's pretty sad that all this ERP/Cybersex crap gets all the limelight, and some people being ignorant and thinking this is what RP servers are all about. The UI can be modded and customized according to what you want. You can turn off lots of the default settings, but to really alter the UI, placing frames in different areas and such, you have to get 3rd party mods.
- Arlan Koizumi
My UI has been so tricked out for so long; I'm not sure what vanilla wow looks like anymore.

We are performing extended maintenance while we resolve some additional issues. We do not have an estimate on when the realms will be available for play but we will provide another update in approximately 1 hour. Thank you for your patience.
I'm wondering if they'll even have it up by 11pm
- Victor Ganata
While being at least 2 hours behind most of the people I play with, I kind of benefit from it on occasions like patch days. By the time I log on, the problems are usually resolved and it's smooth running for me and I don't lose much game time. :/
- Arlan Koizumi
Typically it's more like 3-ish CST when they come up on patch days... /OffOnTuesdaysSeesItAlot

You will desperately assume all non-speaking characters to be played by an extremely attractive naked lady BUT THEY AREN'T EITHER. The dialogue was the funniest part. Especially when they Auto-Tuned everyone's voice.

It is bloody ridiculous. I've watched it about 5 times just to remind myself how ridiculous it is.
- Kamath (नमः)
I take that last part back. The REALLY funny part of 300 is Frank Miller. Dude seems to believe that this movie was a rallying call to stop all of the brown people from invading civilization: http://www.theatlasphere.com/metablo.... I think I just found out how THE SPIRIT got made.
- Steven Perez
DYSP's First Rule of Movies: If a movie pays more attention to SFX or soundtrack than to plot or dialogue, AVOID. If I want to look at something pretty, I'll go to an art gallery. If I want SFX, I'll play a video game.

This is the "watching terrible movies" weekend, right Steven??
- Roberto Bonini
A few weekends ago this was on with Gladiator and Troy. The amount of masculinity I absorbed that weekend was enough to make me want to dine in hell. *leonidas face*
- Jon, the Chilled Beartato
maybe you should Steven. they animated the comic. in that context, this is a great movie. its not trying to be accurate in anyway. its supposed to be over the top and exaggerated. this is a bluray/hd must have for anyone that has the slightest interest in hi-def. check out the comic at your LCS and see for yourself.
- Carlos Ayala
thats a good way of putting it Sparky, yes.
- Carlos Ayala
I'll read it, Carlos, but if this is a faithful adaptation of the book, then the book should also be ridiculous. As in "OMGWTFBBQ redonkulous", Sparky.
- Steven Perez
I thought the movie was good, but I was only in it for the action.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
well considering they only used one or two actual set pieces and the entire thing was cg'd and greenscreened, i thought it was pretty amazing...in an entertaining sort of way. ;)
- Carlos Ayala
Visually, very impressive. Otherwise, ridiculous.
- Steven Perez
Still hasn't coerced me into working out more, but whatever. It is a beautiful looking blu-ray.
- Derrick
Oh, I loved this movie. I always compare it like watching ballet. Well I guess people looking at ballet pay attention to the same things I was liking in 300. I still like to show myself my favourite scenes. Maybe the same scenes you laugh about, but I think the action scenes in this movie are so stylistically attractive, it's making it one of the best films of the last few years.
- Ton Zijp
I liked the movie. Although most of it were over the top, fantasy-esque, I did enjoy the few bits that were relatively faithful of the Spartans. For example, their laconic wit (although I can see how it dampens most view of the dialogue) and the lambda on their shields. Nice portayal of the phalanx and their warrior spirit. Being able to capture the comic frames and translate them to a movie was also pretty awesome.
- Arlan Koizumi

I liked both Wanted and Nightwatch (And I did know that they shared directors, actually). Daywatch was a lot weirder, but I kinda liked that too.
- Chieze Okoye
I wasn't super happy with Daywatch when I saw it, but I've seen Nightwatch probably 10 times. Rahsheen it's a Russian Vampire movie.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
I think Nightwatch is very love/hate, it is so over the top and it can be very confusing to follow at times. It also has really amazing subtitles though.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Agreed about the subtitles. So cool 8^)
- Chieze Okoye
I'm going out on a limb and assuming we're not talking about the Nightwatch with Ewan McGregor and Josh Brolin LOL.
- Penguin It's Cold Outside
Nightwatch was fun. The first five minutes of Daywatch is pretty amazing.
- Carlos Ayala
I <3 Nightwatch (I especially loved the subtitles for it) -- weirdly, I liked Wanted as well, but I had pretty low expectations.
- Jennifer Dittrich
Comparing Nightwatch movie to the book, I didn't care for it much. But on its own as a movie, what they did was awesome. Daywatch felt like it was just bloated with special effects (though I still liked watching it). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
- Arlan Koizumi
I actually did not enjoy the Nightwatch book, I read about half of it before giving it up. I've also seen the other Nightwatch, with Ewan McGregor, completely different feeling. ;)
- Andrizzle Gizzle
The opening scene of Wanted is so obviously in the same style as Nightwatch that I'm not sure why it took my third viewing to piece it together. I did recognise that they shared an actor though.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
That's interesting! What was it that turned you off from the book? | I'm going to have to watch the opening scenes of both movies again. Good excuse to watch fun stuff tonight. :P And yep, Konstantin!
- Arlan Koizumi
I think the writing style, it felt like it was poorly translated, it kind of drove me crazy. I tried it like 2 years ago so I don't really remember why it frustrated me. I also do not read a lot of fantasy or anything so maybe that ws part of it.
- Andrizzle Gizzle
Yeah, Nightwatch is so good but Daywatch... I had a hard time watching that one.

If the guy wanted to hurt the kid, I'd think he'd do more than kick the air between the kid's legs (the kid has no reaction at all). I'm leaning to staged. I guess the guy could be a bad aim. *shrug*

Having a notion in your mind to hurt a kid is fucked up to begin with. I don't understand the quick reaction.

At first I thought it was funny that the median age of the average gamer was getting older and older, but then I realized, the gamers when the average age was 20-something are now of course, older. So I think these studies are following the generation that's really the first one that started gaming.
- Arlan Koizumi
I'm not 35 and I'm not overweight, I might be sad but I'd say stressed is more accurate. Plus, I love my WoW friends, they might not come over my house but I talk to them all the time and they're great. It might not be the same quality as offline friendships, but that doesn't mean online friendships don't "count".

I only listen to the radio. I killed my tv five years ago.
- Joe
I abandoned regular TV watching about a decade ago and regular radio listening about 5-yrs. ago (at the time it was news radio only). Not much lost because of podcasting options and I also watch some TV via Hulu now. It's really just shifting technologies with the same content.

Radio... TV is actually improving, oddly enough.
- Adrian
Radio, of course. You could listen to podcasts, Pandora, Last.fm, Slacker, Live365 - why on earth would you need radio?
- Nathan Chase
I don't watch tv now. We haven't had cable in 6 months. I use the internet. But if it was a choice between traditional, probably radio. All things being equal, of course.
- Sheryl
TV. Radio is a much better source for in-depth information and artistic coverage, when you choose the right sources. Television has the potential to be more informative, but that has mostly been squandered, IMHO.
- Mark "DerBingle" J
It's a done deal: TV and radio. Like Sheryl, I rely on the Internet entirely.
- Melanie Reed
TV is flourishing these days. A LOT of the content is VASTLY superior to movies, and has been that way for at least 5 years now. TOP 40 Radio is a fucking disgrace to music, business, popular culture, Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, the human race, and Earth in general. If you happen to be someone that listens to top 40 radio on a daily basis, please do yourself a favor and AT LEAST get satellite.
- LarchOye
Radio. The stations are so homogeneous at this point that I feel like I rarely get anything from it.
- Jennifer Dittrich
both, unless you are grouping personal music collections in with the radio, then TV only. Otherwise I already don't watch TV and when not in a contract with a service provider don't even subscribe to anything. And as for radio, I don't listen to anything broadcasted, I listen to my iphone
- Kamala Whitaker
I am shocked that in todays world this is even a question/debate. Sure I listen to the morning radio show occasionally on my way in to the office but if I had to give it up all together I really don't think I would even notice. In short, radio.
- Nicholas Kreidberg
I did abandon radio years ago. I love TV, but for music I've found much better ways to listen to music and be exposed to new music than radio.
- Andrew C
Radio. Besides much of what's said before, I also can't give up my video games (while I'm usually PC gaming, there's lots of games I have on my console). Also, my car radio is broken and I don't want to pay to get it fixed (gg iPod!).
- Arlan Koizumi
All you people that said radio, what do you listen to in the car?
- J. Abdul-Qahhar
For me, I mentioned iPod. :) Either a Genius selection of a favorite genre or on rare occasions a podcast.
- Arlan Koizumi
I don't drive. And I listen to my iPod. But your question reminds me of Liz Lemon. "Steven: Sorry, I don't own a TV. Liz: Really, what do you sit and look at?"
- Andrew C
I don't own a tv and I have a Sirius/XM subscription, so I guess tv.
- Katy S
TV. The radio I would preserve is not traditional radio. I'm talking about only NPR and satellite.
- Kamilah Gill
I have already abandoned both, TV was first, back in 2003, then a strange dialup modem quirk required me to play music constantly to stay connected (stupid combo modem/soundcard), which lead to me playing mp3's in winamp 24/7.

"SOME men may have been saddened to hear of the recent slump in sales of baseball caps. I, for one, turned my customary frown upside down. Baseball caps have enjoyed a run atop hipster heads that has surpassed F.D.R.’s stay in office. At the very least, trends should be subject to the same term limits as presidents. In other words, bub, doff it. Many men have taken to the far worthier wool driving cap, and with good reason. It may not suggest that you are an indie-rock guitar rebel who thinks two chords are plenty, but it will keep your head warmer — and more important, your hair neater — in cold weather."

Many men, drawn to the cap’s misty English gentry connotations, opt for plaids or tweeds of a colorful stripe, for some country-squire pizazz. But its background is squarely 19th-century working class, when they were such common garb as to be known simply as caps. In a humbler-looking fabric, like a gray or brown herringbone, a plain loden or a lightly speckled tweed, the cap looks great with a peacoat, leather jacket or fisherman’s sweater — or anything one might deem more Irish than squirish.
- Derrick
I'm a flat cap or fedora man, but driving caps are awesome too! These three types of hats aren't conducive to most hawaii weather though, unless you go straw-woven fedora...
- Arlan Koizumi
Derrick, thanks for posting this. I've been thinking about buying a driving cap. I actually tried a couple on at the Lids store in the Charlotte airport Tuesday. I want one of these, a tweed jacket with elbow patches, and a Jaguar convertible.

Harvey, I'm old school. I like all of that old-timey looking stuff. And you know how I feel about bow ties. Swap out the Jag for a '73 BMW 2002tii and we can break bread, homie.
- Derrick
I was getting kinda punchy by the time we got to Brann. Quite possibly if I had been more awake, we would have succeeded.
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
No, honestly, there's no way we could have. You guys need more upgraded gear on you before we can try that one again. Like I said last night, you need to focus on the preliminary heroics first to get your badge gear up before you move on to the more difficult ones. H HoS is too beefy of a heroic for this particular group.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
You really need to start out with UK, Nexus, VH, and CoS on heavy rotation. THEN move on to UP, DTK, and Gundrak. And THEN move up to AN, OK, HoS, HoL. I would not recommend Oc at all unless everyone has been doing their Wyrmrest dailies so they're familiar with drake mount fighting.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Right now, Vic's health is too low, Sean's spell power is too low, and your DPS is too low to be able to work together in H HoS. If you each ran it with a more powerful group, you'd be fine. Vic did well when I brought in a bunch of OP people to finish off the Tribunal and the last boss. He just got horsekicked by the laser beam.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
On a related note, looking at all of your gear, there is a marked lack of enchantments that could be very beneficial to all of you. Just because something is a blue or green doesn't mean it shouldn't get an enchant. Especially when you have an end-game enchanter at your disposal (me). If you're not sure what should be enchanted or what to enchant with, check yourself on WoW-Heroes. It will give you recommendations for what enchant
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I also see several empty sockets. You should always gem up your sockets, even if you have to go with a less expensive one that you can afford. Don't pass up the opportunity for additions to stats. If you're a blacksmith, you can add sockets to some of your items. You should do so. If you're a jewelcrafter, you can craft JC-only gems. Do it. And share between your professions. If you can craft an item for someone that is wayyyyy beneficial to them, then do it. LW's, BS's, and Tailors, I'm looking at you.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I thought I had started ok on gems and enchants I need better chest, hands and weapons. Since you seem to have time on your hands, why don't you compile a list of some gear I should try to acquire. :D
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
Or how about this? How about y'all just keep bashing your head against the Tribunal wall while I move on to other things? I could have spent several hours working on my research paper last night instead of acquiring a 60g total repair bill, using three Flasks of Endless Rage, and dropping 7 fish feasts. I don't expect gratitude. That's not why I do this. I like running with you guys. But I'm not about to give you a helpful assessment and be met with snark. I have better things to do with my time. kthxbai.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Woah woah whoa. I was kidding. Not trying to be snarky at all. Sorry :(
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
And thanks for the assessment, Amanda. It's good to know the specific reasons why we kept eating shit and dying. Gear is a lot easier to upgrade than skill :D Still, I think I've probably gotten as far as I can get with gear I can buy without dumping thousands of GPs into the AH for crafted purples. I really need to start picking up badge gear and/or leveling my BS skill.
- Victor Ganata
My lack of mana and low spell power def has a lot to do with it. I only have one purple item, and it's a ring. I seriously need better gear. I'm gonna start rep grinding as of tonight just to get some decent blues at least.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
One thing to keep in mind is that when you run with a group that's mostly overgeared (which is the case with most pugs), heroics should only take about a half-hour. You can run one or two heroics a night and get a really nice bump in your rep grinding, a few badges, experience, and possibly a few blues that should save you some time. I think waiting for DYSP-only runs, if you're interested in getting geared, is doing you guys a disservice.
- Mark Trapp
And yeah, even when running with OP groups, HoS Tribunal is still a pain in the butt. The first successful one I did we only won by dumb luck: we wiped 3 seconds before the event ended, so we got credit. The second one was only because the healer, the tank, and a DPS were in full TotC 25 gear. When I pug heroics, I try to stick with the easy fast ones: Gundrak, Violet Hold, Culling of Stratholme, and Utgarde Keep.
- Mark Trapp
Except that I hate PUGs. With a blinding fiery passion. I always get stuck in a group with a couple elitist assholes who want to tell me how to play my character, or on a single wipe freak out and start cursing everyone out. I know it's slow to wait for DYSP runs, but if the alternative is what I described above, then I'll gladly wait it out.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I dunno, I see it as free advice you don't have to take. You always have the option to leave the group if someone's being a real prick or never grouping with that person again. What do you care what a stranger thinks of how you play? You're there to get loot from them, so joke's on them. For DYSP runs though, I think we just need to run things that aren't HoS tribunal for a while: we...

Actually it's better for them to run it as a guild because if they continue to rely on OP people carrying them through runs, they will never improve as players. It's not just about how much shit you can pile up on your character, it's about actually LEARNING SOMETHING. Last night was the first time I've EVER failed Tribunal, and I've actually run it with gear-appropriate groups before....

We had problems on EVERY boss. And we lagged between pulls because Sean was having to mana up a lot. Just because we survived a fight doesn't mean we did it well. It means we were fucking LUCKY.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I didn't get that impression at all. I feel confident in our teamwork and always have. We need practice, sure, but no need to crap all over what we did accomplish last night. I think we all need to step away from this thread because people are getting upset. It was one run, and a late night one at that.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
If the purpose of the game, and the guild, is to have fun, I don't know what the value of doing things like this are if everyone's going to get upset with each other about how a run went. Let's do stuff that doesn't result in a nasty thread like this being created.
- Mark Trapp
Sean - I was speaking of one person specifically, not the entire group as a whole. We'll discuss offline if you need more information. I was already done with this thread hours ago but came back because I think advising you to just run with OP groups so you can gear up is a poor attitude to have; I don't want to see you guys getting in that rut. It makes for shitty team players and you're better than that.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Well, let's get it out in the open. There were 5 people in the group, and obviously you or Sean aren't the person you're referring to. If it was Victor, I doubt you'd have finished the run later with him. So either it's me or Gunny, and I really don't think you have a problem with Gunny. So what's your problem? What did I do that has you railing about how awful last night was?
- Mark Trapp
My problem? Well really, it seems that I *am* the problem. So what I'm going to do now is unsub from this group and when I get home, I will pull my toons from the guild. My presence has created a disharmony and it's better for y'all if I stepped completely away. I apologize if I've ruined anyone's gameplay. It was not my intention. I just wanted to help and apparently every time I do that, I just piss you all off even more. So. I'm outtie.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Come on, don't do that (if you haven't done it already). I've lurked in this group and it seemed to me you all got along more than you fought. Wouldn't it be better if you folks got together in vent or ingame and just talk things over?
- Arlan Koizumi
Re-reading the top... badge gear farming is nice, but really right now, that's trying to jump a step. Prior to the whole easy conquest badge farming, you only could farm heroism badges in heroics. That's pretty much gear before doing Naxx hardcore (just about Naxx 10-man). The gear progression should be instance/quest > rep/crafted purples > heroics/badge gear > fracking raiding...
- Arlan Koizumi
You're right Arlan, but I'd argue that running heroics is the fastest way to gain rep (when compared to daily quests). When you can get ~1500-2000 rep from one heroic run vs. 750/day of rep for Wyrmrest, I don't think it's a bad idea to run a heroic with overpowered pugs to get what you need to run what you want. I thought last night was purely a gear issue, and to me, getting gear is a...

Looking at the almighty Gear Score as a benchmark, I have one of 3217 which is BARELY acceptable for 10 man Naxx. I picked up a couple of pieces from the article Vic linked. Thanks Vic.
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
Hmm. What are you using to calculate Gear Score?
- Victor Ganata
I've found most people refer to the wow-heroes.com instead of the AddOn, which uses a different formula. It looks like yours is 1367 (url: http://wow-heroes.com/index...). Just adding enchants should bump that up a hundred points or so.
- Mark Trapp
Well, you have a lot of room on your enchants :)
- Victor Ganata
Mark: I agree too. Rep grinding can be fast in heroics. But yes, "lower level" heroics would probably be better to tackle right now. When you start doing stuff like HoS, HoL, UK, things can get hairy if you don't have the basic gear for the difficulty. Unfortunately, I can't remember if doing HoS on regular will give you rep (I'm thinking only level 80 instances gives rep without it being heroic).
- Arlan Koizumi
finding enchanters who will do stuff for me NAO without Mats is the challenge :D
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
Regular HoS won't (although regular HoL will.) To be sure, when we tried running H UK without anyone who was overgeared, it was kind of a struggle, although it was gratifying to make improvements and slowly get through it after each wipe. I don't think we'll be running H HoS any time soon without any overpowered assistance.
- Victor Ganata
I've been buying scrolls from the AH mostly. And then there are the enchants you can get from different factions after you grind enough rep. This is probably a lot easier than trying to get mats when you can't DE things.
- Victor Ganata
These tips will probably be old news, but if not, cool beans. Ret Pally: 1) Repentance when you can and HoJ mobs. In a learning group, every bit of cc is helpful, 2) Use instant FoL on the tank or healer if the pally's own hp is ok, 3) BoP people if they're in trouble, 4) Save LoH for tank in really hard boss fights. DK: 1) Strangulate and Mind Freeze caster mobs to help mitigate...

- Arlan Koizumi
You folks use raid icons to set primary and secondary targets? Can also use other icons to designate CC. For tanks, an alternative to enchants are armor patches. heavy borean kits give +18 stamina. Provided the tank already has head, shoulder and leg enchants, you can still get a 54 sta boost.
- Arlan Koizumi
As you solo, you should be getting a few green items. Besides selling them, give 'em to an enchanter friend to DE. And yeah, you can usually find scrolls with enchants in the AH.
- Arlan Koizumi
wow-loot.com shows you some gear you can get before raiding. I thought I saw this posted earlier but wow-gem.com is great for picking gems.
- Arlan Koizumi
Yeah, I'd like to check Rawr out, but Mono doesn't work on Snow Leopard yet.
- Victor Ganata
Hmm I DID just install VMWare fusion and windows 7 today I'll have to give rawr a look.
- Gunny doesn't side-hug™
@Gunny it's not the most intuitive app, but it works. basically you want to make sure to put at least a gem and item enhancement in any place you can do so (don't tell rawr you want to enchant your rings if you're not an enchanter, for example), set filters to only instances/crafting/tokens you can get without much effort (perhaps don't include triumph gear if you don't do raids...

PS3 more than anything (and it's online is FREE), I'm sure it helped to have the momentum of a PS2 library. 360 and Wii not so much, older systems on occasion. iPhone/iTouch rocks 'cuz you can take it with you.
- LogEx
I have a PS2, Wii and Xbox 360. I play them all.

New PS3s don't have much (any?) PS2 backwards compatibility, though, LogEx... And Mike, I have a 360. Want to get a PS3 soon, but haven't yet bothered.
- Andrew C
PS3. Although I spend most of my gaming time on the PC.

Andrew, that's why I got the last of the hardware-emulated 60GB models. I don't know why they dropped even software compatibility in later models.

360 Gamertag: Jenn2D2 (I also have and play PS3, Wii, N64, PS2, Gamecube on various occasions.)
- Jennifer Dittrich
So it seems that people are big on the 360. I'm assuming mostly shooters (Halo, CoD, etc)? The games which intrigue me don't really fall in the shooter vein (Assassin's Creed, Fallout, etc)
- Mike Nayyar
PS2. I bought it solely so I could play Guitar Hero. Since then, out of guilt, I've bought an old Madden game, Spiderman, Tetris. Uhm, I can't remember what else. I mostly only play GH. :D

@Mike - I'm not big on the FPS games (they give me motion sickness when I play) but I love Katamari, Dragon Age, several of the arcade games, and Rock Band.
- Jennifer Dittrich
Amusingly, I have a 360 and a GameCube... and we still play more GC than anything else. Even my kids, who have a Wii at their Dad's house.

I don't really do FPS any more, I only play them on the 360 out of boredeom .*whispers* Don't tell my husband, but he was right: FPS are far more superior on a PC.

I have a PS3 & Wii and I also like gaming on my PC. Mostly play FIFA on the PS3 & Wii Sports. I like FPS games on the PC which I don't seem to enjoy using controllers on the consoles. I'm an old mouse & keyboard guy I guess.
- Mark Krynsky
360 is still the best system overall, though the prices are probably about the same if you take into account you have to pay for a Gold Membership with the Xbox and probably a wireless adaptor (which comes with the PS3). However, the PS3 is in a much better position now (more good games, better price) and I'm intending to buy one before Xmas.

PS3: kenshin27, 360: yojironin, Wii: some ridiculously long string of numbers that I couldn't possibly remember. I play mostly the PS3 these days. 360 gathers dust cause I just don't have the time to deal with playing stuff online. Wii is broken out when there are guests who don't want to play GH/RB on the PS3. I do most of my gaming on the iPhone or PSP though. I LOVE the PSP cause it's so easy to play a little, put on sleep, then return to playing where I left off. Just wish they had more games for it. =p

If you are into blu ray, wouldn't you want a higher-end blu ray player than a PS3? The whole point of blu ray is higher quality, right?

PS3: Includes WiFi, free online, Blu-Ray and it's quiet, plus it doesn't look like a toy! You can upgrade the internal HD or even attach an external HD. Also, Sony has upgraded the Blu-Ray drive via firmware to offer more features (BD-Live) :)
- Mark Layton
I have all three. I play NCAA 10 for the 360 and I have NHL 10 and FIFA 10 for the PS3. Debating getting Super Mario Bros for the Wii. I like them all although XBox Live is much better than PSN. ahr19 on both systems.

PS3 with upgraded hard drive to 250GB. One of my best purchases of the 2000's. 8^D

LANjackal, what I mean is the average consumer doesn't care that much. They'll buy a big HD TV and then watch stretched SD TV on it. Some people don't even get HD service. I'd say about 10% or less of people are knowledgeable and care enough to have high fidelity video. Within that group, a fair amount will want the highest quality blu ray (and upscaler) they can get.
- Cristo
+1 on the upgradability of the PS3. Huge plus to owning one

We have them all. However we play most on the Xbox 360. Why, because I can play with my sister in Rochester and it has more games that we want to play with people and because I'm a achievement whore. Some games are just better on the other platforms, but as a all around good platform for lots of things, its Xbox for us. :)
- Rachel Lea Fox
Cristo, I disagree. If your TV is capable of what a blueray player can produce, even regular DVD's look better played on a blueray player as it boosts they quality of regular video. And blueray disks look amazing!!
- Rachel Lea Fox
Most people don't have a good upscaling BR player though, Rachel. They have something like the PS3...which is not a good upscaling DVD player at all.
- Alex Scoble
What do you mean by "upscaling", Alex? If the output is 1080p and the TV is 1080p, what is there to scale? Also, most decent receivers will upscale lower-res input too
- LANjackal
from IM
I'm talking about DVDs, LANjackal...which in order to be played nicely at 1080p they need to be upscaled. Either by your TV (horrible) or by DVD player (usually less horrible, particularly if you have a good upscaling DVD player).
- Alex Scoble
I think Cristo's right. My cousins have a nice widescreen TV and they were happy to watch stretched SD content on it. Incorrect aspect ratios just kill me, but apparently enough people are OK with them that Food Network HD runs all their old SD content in modified stretchovision.
- Andrew C
^ I've noticed that. Pathetic.
- LANjackal
from IM
Rachel, what are you disagreeing with me about? I didn't say blu ray doesn't look amazing or that upscaling blu ray players don't make DVDs look better. I also didn't say that you didn't see a quality difference. I said 90% of consumers aren't that picky.
- Cristo
i have a ps3 but mainly use it for watching dvds, ps3 games are mostly single player which is a bit annoying
- Loc
Cristo, I think that the difference between SD and HD at least in broadcast is crystal clear (and they do care) to most of the viewing population. DVD --> BD, you might have a point, but I personally think that it's also clear and significant.
- Chieze Okoye
Chieze, while I don't have numbers to back up my assertion, I still think you'll find lots of people that are unaware. I'm talking people walking on the street, not people that are already self-selected by being in Best Buy or talking about A/V systems online. The average consumer is just not that picky. They are more sold on the *idea* of HD TV than the actual fidelity. The thing most people notice is 16:9 vs 4:3.
- Cristo
Chieze - You also have to account for the fact that some of us, while being aware of HDTV (broadcast, cable, satellite), we still don't have the means to use it. While we have a large screen LCD 1080p television, it would cost us a lot of extra money to get HD DirecTV service (I think it's $300 to upgrade our receiver, and another $15 or $20/month extra for the service). It's not that important to me, so I simply watch SD TV on the television. It still looks good.
- Curtiss Grymala
Hmm, good point Curtiss. I guess that's personal preference, because I have Comcast and honestly I can barely look at SDTV broadcasts anymore.
- Chieze Okoye
